« Bobby Crosby Requests Trade | Main | Jim Bowden - GM Trade History »
According to Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star, opposing team scouts have been tracking the Royals' surplus of catchers this spring.
"A lot of teams need catchers," one scout told Dutton, "and they've got three guys who can help a big-league club. You know they're probably only going to keep two. So you know somebody is going to be available."
The Royals have Miguel Olivo, John Buck and Brayan Pena in camp. Olivo will start at catcher on Opening Day, so Buck and Pena are the most likely to be moved. Dutton writes that "club officials believe a trade market exists for all three players."

Sure. As in-demand as Varitek, Bard, and Kottaras. :P

They wouldn't cost as much as Bard or Kottaras would. Buck is the most likely to go I think and wouldn't cost much more than a high upside A ball pitcher or maybe even AA but I doubt that.

Since they are in the same division I realize it probably wont happen, but i wouldn't mind seeing the sox make a deal for Buck. He certainly would be better then either of the two guys they have now competing for the backup job. He has some power and I believe he has thrown out between 35-40% of runners trying to steal. Thats definitely better then AJ. He could spell AJ against some of the tougher lefties, or even come in late in games

I think the exact opposite is true.
They would cost MORE than Bard or Kotteras would.
Pena has more upside than Kotteras.
Buck is a better catcher than Bard. Bard was signed as a FA this offseason and can't be traded till June.
Neither Pena nor Buck would cost a top prospect, but I wouldn't put it beyond Moore to get similar to what the Rangers got for Laird.

This is really a joke...nobody wants the Royals castoffs...hell they're playing Olivo, who is one of the biggest headcases in the whole league...Buck will not get a return of anything serviceable, and like I said Olivo is down to his last team

rfro...
u don't know what you are talking about when it comes to Olivo...he is one of the most well liked guys in the game..when the visiting teams come in to play the royals Olivo is usually the first guy they look for...he is far from a head case and is a very good clubhouse guy
also...the person that mentioned the 35-40% of the runners that Buck throws out is way off...check the numbers as he threw out like 2 people all last season
