« The Deadline For Signing Draft Picks | Main | Nats Agree To Terms With Drew Storen »
ESPN.com's Buster Olney reports that the Blue Jays have agreed to sign David Dellucci. The Indians released Dellucci last Monday after he started the season hitting .275/.333/.350. He will report to Triple A and will likely be promoted to the majors soon. The Blue Jays, who obtain Dellucci for the major league minimum, will probably use him as a left fielder and DH against right-handed pitching.
The Rangers also offered Dellucci a minor league deal.

Great pickup for a top-heavy RH hitting team.

David Dellucci is the complete opposite of a great pickup.

He's no Reed Johnson!

Why would the Jays need to use Dellucci as a DH against RHP? Adam Lind has been pretty good in that role. Are you telling me Dellucci is a worse fielder than Lind?

"Are you telling me Dellucci is a worse fielder than Lind?"
UZR thinks so.

It's a good, cheap pickup. He'll be what, 300k? He's a decent hitter and a good enough guy to have.

He definitely wasn't acquired to replace Lind, but if Lind's playing the field, Dellucci could DH.

Lind has more than held his own in LF this year. Still takes some shaky routes, but for the most part he's gotten the job done, and I can really only think of last night's first Texas hit to the wall as the only time Lind has dropped a catchable ball.
Less of Millar/Bautista vs. RHP is a good thing, even if Dellucci can only duplicate what he was doing in Cleveland to start the year.

Blue Jays suck - overrated.

Obviously less of Millar vs. RHP is a good thing, but they already had Inglett to do that job and weren't using him.

B3NG4L.. if anything, they're underrated. Look at what they have done so far with only one guy from the rotation in '08 (Halladay). They survived a 9 game losing streak and are still 1.5 games back? Come on...

yes when I think of overrated baseball teams the jays are clearly tops on that list hahaha. Generally what I consider overrated teams, are the ones that win divisions that are not the AL East.
I mean take the top 4 teams in the AL east and put them all in different divisions and all 4 could make the playoffs.

Blue Jays suck - overrated.
-------------------------
First off, when were the Jays ever rated high for this season? Every Baseball preview guide, analyst and preview website had them rated pretty average or below average and had them as a lock for 4th or even 5th in the east.
Secondly what are they doing to be labeled over rated? Winning some games with a completely decimated pitching staff that aside from Halladay is made up from converted bullpen guys and rookies.
If you would like to talk over rated we could talk about a number of teams but the Jays are simply a surprise team playing above their expectations. Nothing more.
The Dellucci pick up is simply to provide a good club house presence and a left handed bat in Snider's absence. Nothing more. He wont be around next year and he wont do much this year. Think Brad Wilkerson and Kevin Mench from last year.
