How about another Mets transaction? This time they designated reliever Connor Robertson for assignment, according to a team press release. He had a 5.10 ERA in 30 IP split between Double-A and Triple-A this year after being acquired in exchange for Scott Schoeneweis this offseason.
You can keep track of all the moves the Mets made today here.

BREAKING NEWS; METS DFA WHOLE TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Raymond | June 22, 2009 at 07:43 PM
Is there any chance the Mets are trying to shed as much payroll as possible in anticipation of a major move? Or am I just dreaming here?

Doubt it metsobsessed, they still have to pay these guys even though they DFA'd/released them.

Then what's the point?

DFA'ing Robertson clears up a 40-man roster spot, not really sure what they get out of releasing Kielty, Valentin & Pena.

Wasn't Kielty on the 40 man? Maybe not, I don't remember clearly. I definitely do not get the point of releasing Valentin and Pena. The Buffalo Bisons are already incompetent; why make them worse?

they probably feel like lucas duda is ready for AAA, and evans will probably be in AAA as well once he gets sent down.. they also bumped up ike davis to AA, so there isn't much starting room for Duda and Evans there (both play 1B/OF if i remember correctly)

If anything, releasing minor league depth like they have points to them -not- making a move. If they were going to trade prospects to fill the ML squad, they would need more minor league fillers, not fewer.
