Adrian gonz for fernando martinez bobby parnell josh thole and eddie kunz
Posted by: beastOftheEast | June 17, 2009 at 02:23 PM
No way will F.Mart bring the Mets back A.Gon, the Mets will get Penny, Saito and Reddick from the sox. Makes sense for both sides. The Awesome thing about this trade is that the sox still got Smoltz, Clay Buc, and F.Cab to call up, and add F.Mart; awesome. Reddick is a good player think M.Greenwell .300 15 70 10 not bad. The mets get a fourth starter 2x better than Redding and a pretty good reliever in Saito. This deal would make or break Jose M. The question is does he have the coconuts to do so.

I don't know which is worse, the idiotic Mets fan that thinks FMart+Stuff is enough for Adrian Gonzalez (the fan favorite and only draw for a mediocre Padres team), or the idiotic Red Sox fan that thinks the Mets will give up FMart for a package of FAs to be (headlined by a starter with a 5+ ERA!).

Heathcott is not a pitcher. He is an outfielder.

Slade Heathcott is not a pitcher. He's an outfielder.

Hey remember the Mets traded away S.Kasmir for V.Zambrano the trade I said isn't even half that bad

"Heathcott is not a pitcher. He is an outfielder."
He actually did both, and was once considered a late 1st round talent as a pitcher, but he was drafted as an outfielder.
"Hey remember the Mets traded away S.Kasmir for V.Zambrano the trade I said isn't even half that bad."
Yes, the Mets are a dumb organization, but they DO have a different GM.
Yes, that trade you said was idiotic. You willing to trade, say, Clay Buchholz for Livan Hernandez + Billy Wagner + (insert minor league scrub with ok numbers here)?

VICTOR MARTINEZ is the perfect fit for the mets..i know hes not available now but towards the deadline if the indians are out of it then omars gotta package up a deal 4 him. he can play 1st while delgados out and can catch as well..he also has an option for 2010

why do people worry about redsox at shortstop considering nick green is hitting .293
and with ortiz heating up the offense will stay hot keep penny

Theo is not stupid. He knows there is no guarantee that any of Smoltz, Penny, and Buchholz will perform consistently. Too much pitching is not a problem in baseball.
There is no way the Mets can net a star in return for anything they have in the minors. Fernando Martinez + some other decent prospects can yield a return of a Bedard type player.
Plus I think other GM's in baseball realize that FMart is not actually 20 and is probably around 22 or 23 which takes away from him being a super prospect.

THE BRAVES ARE IDIOTS FOR NOT RE-SIGNING SMOLTZ. He would be a good mentor to guys like Tommy Hanson, Jiar Jurrjens and Kris Medlen, plus he can still get 10 wins a year and hez a home town favorite
Posted by: BrentWt34 | June 17, 2009 at 04:43 PM
Actually nobody knows what Smoltz can do since he hasn't thrown a pitch in the MLB in over a year. Plus it would have taken a good 8 mil to sign him...that money went towards Lowe which I think was a good decision.
Posted by: yanks09 | June 17, 2009 at 05:10 PM
Lowe cost more than 8million, and i think smoltzy could bounce back, the sox obviously think he can

Nothing new with the Jorge Says No plan, but I'm in agreement. The O's should put Huff, Scott, Sherrill, Baez, and I'll add Mora, on the block and see what they can pull back. Mora will be tough to move at his age and with a no-trade clause, but he's been a solid run-producer for years now and could bring a bit more than mere salary relief. The rest have a chance to net solid returns. Still, I wouldn't make any moves just to make them. Huff's a potential Type A FA, so there's no need to send him packing unless the return is comparable to the two premium picks they could net as compensation. Not sure if Baez could sneak into Type B status, but if it's even a possibility, it'd be worth hanging on to the guy through season's end- unless the return is right. The O's made a mistake last year when they held off on trading Sherrill at full value and shouldn't make the same mistake twice. He's throwing great right now, but it's just a matter of time before he's back to his high-wire act, blowing saves.

Obviously Lowe cost more than 8 mil. But that extra 8 mil was used to increase the offer to Lowe and lock him up. A 4 year deal for 60 mil looks much better than a 4 year deal worth 52 mil. Say what you want but when Smoltz is getting hit hard, like every other 42 year old coming back from major shoulder surgery that isn't on the juice should, you will not be saying the same thing.

Orioles AREN'T doing a Fire Sale!?
I wouldn't call it a fire sale at all. All of their unwieldy contracts are coming off the books at the end of the season. That's 3 guys. Everyone else who's a vet is under control and signed at bargain prices and values. The Orioles are a bad team right now but they've got some excellent young talent on the current team in several slots and a ton of pitching in the minors.
Just because they'll be Sellers doesn't mean "Fire Sale." A Fire Sale is when a team sheds all players being paid north of the minimum.

One example of bad wording here. Then another blog quotes it. All of a sudden it's a rumor.

The mets are not giving up fernando martinez for penny saito and Reddick. Thats ridiculous. Fernando Martinez would get the mets a whole lot more than that. And an Adrian Gonzalez type player is exactly what he could land us. F-mart with a few fillers could get us Adrian Gonzalez
Posted by: JGonzo | June 18, 2009 at 01:21 PM
fernando martinez, thole, niese, parnell, tejada, church for adrian gonzalez and maybe a couple of noname minor leaguers. f mart is a top prospect along with thole who is hitting above .300 in AAA with tejada a 19 yr old ss with a lot of upside which is a thing that the padres lack. plus you throw church in because the padres are going to need a major league ready player.
Posted by: joe | June 18, 2009 at 04:10 PM
That's a bit unreasonable of a trade for any 1 player. That would clean out the Mets' already mediocre overall farm system. No way that would ever happen.
