How do you guys feel about interleague play? I understand the problems in creates in terms of the unbalanced schedule, but the fan in me still loves it. Anyway, here's some evening links as rivalry weekend kicks off...

Of course the Yankees are gonna give Sano a tryout, who wouldn't?

Those poor, poor Pirate fans....

"I would say he has a Hanley Ramirez body and the possible upside of an Albert Pujols-type bat."
I love how he compares his player to arguably the two very best players in the game.
What's going to happen when he ends up being a solid defensive third baseman that bats 300/370/520? Then he's going to be a monster disappointment..

I think the Pirates will sign him, I'm just a little worried with more teams starting to have interest in him.

"notes that prospect Miguel Angel Sano will work out for the Yankees"
Well... that puts an end to the Twins and Pirates hopes. With all this talk of Strasburg possibly forcing MLB to fix the June Draft...its the International System that needs fixing. Sano should have to enter the Amateur draft. The End.

WHat I will say will automaticaly be dismissed as a Yankee-ism, but I think there are too many variables to institute an international draft. No way Japaneese players like Dice-K or Matsui or Igawa should be subjected to the draft system, especially after paying their dues for 7 or 8 years in Japan and earning millions and millions of dollars. Realistically, would a team like the Pirates cough up the dough for a foreign player demanding huge multi-million dollar deals? And how do you navigate the posting fees that the Japaneese teams demand? Realistically, an international draft should only apply to non-Japaneese players, and that really isn't fair.

". . .the possible upside of an Albert Pujols-type bat."
Now, I realize you want to project your client as the best he can possibly be, but why not say he has the speed of Willie Mays and the swing of Ted Williams?
Come on, he's a kid, and for every Albert Pujols and Hanley Ramirez that actually become stars, there are a hundred "can't-miss" prospects that should have been the next Reggie Jackson or Sandy Koufax.
Good luck to this kid, he's gonna need it with all this pressure being put on him.

Great..the next Joel Guzman.

The highest paid players in Japan make as much as the average player in America.

Oh yes, and I'm sure Miguel Angel Sano also has a Willie Mays glove, Lou Brock type speed, an Andre Dawson arm, and a Carlton Fisk type understanding of the game. Sign him up !!

Miguel Sano will be a Yankee. They have a big influence with the Latin American talent and if their only competition is the Pirates and Twins, it hurts to say this but the Yankees will have bought another first round talent. This kid translates into a very solid baseball player, but if he does project as a 3B like everyone says then were do they fit him into their plans if he sky rockets through the system?

If Sano is all he's cracked up to be, then why aren't more teams bidding for his services?

1. Wilson Betemit is bad. Just awful. Shocker that the Yanks were able to actually get something of value for him, as opposed to nontendering him.

Isn't this exactly what was said about Ynoa last year?

Melonis:
Yes but the thing with Inoa was that the Oakland Athletics were interested with him not some minor team like the Pirates. You as an A's fan should know that... They are an entertaining option and with their minor league depth already and if i remember correctly, the Yankees weren't willing to pay his price.

1 *BIG* reason.. You simply cannot trust the ages of these players from these locales anymore. Why take a 3-4M hit on a player who says the age is 16, in 6 months to a year you find out is 20, lose 3M dollars and you could have drafted a 18YO high school player with actual documented/factual age for less? That is why.

love the Pujols comparison... because there are so many Pujols-like hitters scattered around the world.

I agree. Japan has a deep deep love of baseball, their league is pretty damn good.
No way in hell could the MLB say Japanese players are eligible for the draft.
But.. any player who lives in the Americas should be subject to the draft and should have a year of background checks done before becoming ready for the draft..

Yeah but the Dominican Republic is not part of either North or South America so I guess you would have to expand that to them as well.

the yankees need to investagate Sano and not get taken like what has happen in the case of the epic blunder in the Arod signing...but if Sano's creditials checkout then they need to sign him without a doubt...because he is a position player and the Yanks have a derth of talent in the field in their farm....and after investing in Kei Igawa Ol'Clemens and A.J.Burnett i'd think this type of investment is worth the risk...they need to get younger and if Sano pans out then they actually save alot of money....
