On this date 42 years ago, Brian Cashman was born. Cashman has been the General Manager of the Yankees since 1998 and is signed through 2011. With four weeks until the trade deadline, Cashman will certainly be active in the trade market. Let's take a look at what is being written in the Blogosphere...

OCab would be a tremendous pickup for the Mets and a good guy when Rios is out. GG defense and a fiery guy that could maybe pick up the Mets? Maybe even they could get him on the cheap from Oakland.
As a Sox fan, I also am seeing them and Papelbon parting ways. He is under club control for 2 more years after 2009 and arbitration starting this year is going to be astronomical. He shows little desire to want to sign a club friendly contract, as did Pedroia, Lester and Youkilia and cannot really blame him, he wants to see what his value is and for that reason the Sox may want to kind of ease Bard starting early next season (or late this year) into closing situations and see how well he can handle it.
If Bard seems as if he can do the job like he did in the minors, by the trade deadline of next year, imagine Papelbon would be worth as much as anyone traded over the last several years at that period with 1 1/2 years left of club control, with him being still a dominant closer as long as he stays that way.

Options that Metsgeek suggested:
Milton Bradley: Not happening. With him still on the books for two years and 20 million after this season along with his usual antics, the mets aren't going to want him. Even if the Mets wanted him they couldn't afford him ( I could be wrong though.)
Orlando Cabrera: Depending on when Reyes comes back, Cabrera could be an option. However with him struggling this year, Beane may want to wait to trade him until later this month to get more value out of him (He has been hot lately.)
Elijah Dukes: Despite the Nationals trading away Milledge and wanting quanity over potential, I say Dukes stays. He may be a bit of a pain, but he does have 30 homer potential. Plus he has been fighting off injuries, something that the mets don't need more of.
J.R. Towles: The struggling Astros catcher could be had for cheap. However with Pudge a free agent after this season and Castro needing more time in the minors to develop, Towles could hang on for now.
Josh Willingham: Could be had for a reasonal price. With the Nationals having a crowded outfield, Willingham could be gone for decent prospect or two. I have to imagine that the Nats would want pitching in return.
Overall I think that Willingham would be the best target to get. He could be had for cheap compared to Bradley and Cabrera. I also think that Towles would be a good addition if available. He could be straighten out in New York and had for cheap. Both of these options could be buy low sell high type of trades.
