It would be really bold, but Gammons mentioned the Sox trading Beckett. They should be able to get a package equal to what the Jays expect for Doc. Then those prospects could fetch A-Gone, or even better, include a young shortstop or catcher who would take over in 2011 or 2012.

Wow...
Talk about some news flashes here... Anyone who has a pulse would know all of these bullets... Must be a slow day

Yeah I wonder what Beckett would get the Sox.

Depends on how healthy he is. He has missed time the past 2 years with some sort of nagging injury.

Speaking of dealing beckett.. What about a three way deal between the sox/mariners and phillies that would go something like this:
Sox get:
King Felix, Jimmy Rollins, Jayson Werth
Phillies get:
Beckett, Ichiro, Lowrie
Mariners get:
Lars Anderson, Bard, Reddick, JA Happ, others....
Its ridiculous but at least its new and exciting

would baldelli want to come back? assuming the sox re-sign bay he'd be competing with hermedia for playing time... or is the two of them the plan? havent checked but how do those two stand as far as vs lefties and righties?
Posted by: elmedius | November 10, 2009 at 03:25 PM
I want Wagner, give me Wagner!
Posted by: RaysFan | November 10, 2009 at 03:28 PM
Elmedius
Hermida mashes righties Baldelli mashes lefties
Seems like it could be the thinking. I also think they were sort of strapped at the beginning of last year when Kotsay was still rehabing and Baldelli was the only option off the bench. at the very least Hermida gives them a healthy fourth outfielder who can play back to back games even if baldelli re signs

reality was i was being ridiculous and throwing something out that will never happen..even if i 'forced trades'.. and i prefer xbox 360..was a ps2 guy in my teens but 360 is my preference these days
Posted by: ronnyronron9 | November 10, 2009 at 03:35 PM
360>PS3 ;)
Quite honestly, as a Met fan I would love that trade cause it weakens the Philthies.

Baldelli will be fine for 5th OF and RH pinch hit duties.
I like the idea of extensions for Beckett and Martinez. I could also get on board for a Beckett trade if they can't sign him. Hopefully they would use that bounty towards getting Felix, or Halladay at very least.
How about a Beckett for Mauer deal? Very doubtful, but what a headline grabber! ;-)

While that trade is utterly ridiculous, I think the foundations are plausible if the Red Sox are seriously considering dealing Beckett. Obviously the Sox would not do this without having a deal finalized with another team to replace Beckett. Felix is obviously someone that the Red Sox have previously targeted and Theo has publicly acknowledged his love affair with Felix. If Beckett is really on the block I could see something like the following happening.
Sox get: Kyle Drabek and a lesser prospect
Phils get: Josh Beckett
The Sox could then take the 2 prospects from the Phils and flip them with another 2-3 prospects for Felix (Bowden, Kalish/Reddick and Exposito maybe?)
Obviously if the Ms feel they can contend next year, this deal is moot. I think when age, future contract considerations, and players required to complete a deal are all considered, Beckett is just as if not a more attractive option than Halladay.

Reasonable blockbuster?
Sox Get: A-Gone, micheal Young
Pads Get: Lars Anderson, Casey Kelly, Reddick, stolmy pimentel, Saltalamachia, Bowden, Kotchman
Rangers get:Delcarmin, heath bell, Lowell, (cash Considerations),
Posted by: Steven | November 10, 2009 at 04:17 PM
Maybe with hermeda going to Rangers?
Posted by: Steven | November 10, 2009 at 04:18 PM
i will repeat casey kelly and ryan westmorland will not be traded! if you say they are overhyped then you are an idiot!
Posted by: seanthadon | November 10, 2009 at 04:27 PM
steven they got blanks why do they need anderson and kotchman?
Posted by: seanthadon | November 10, 2009 at 04:29 PM
Just....
Sign Figgins
Sign Scutaro
Sign Holliday
Sign Lackey
Sign Mike Gonzalez
Get picks for Bay and Wagner, we wouldn't give up multiple picks for signing multiples. This is mostly sarcasm but hey the Yanks did it last year.
Beckett
Lester
Lackey
Buchholz
Matsuzaka
Delcarmen
Ramirez
Okajima
Gonzalez
Bard
Papelbon
Ellsbury
Pedroia
Martinez
Holliday
Youk
Drew
Lowell/Ortiz
Figgins
Scutaro

I would be very happy if the Red Sox can sign Lackey and then either bring back Bay or decide to go big and get Holliday. At shortstop I am perfectly fine with having Alex Gonzalez handling the position and splitting some time with Lowrie. The Red Sox have the money to do it but lately have backed off on giving big deals to pitchers in their 30's and they hate to be involved with Scott Boras(What team other than the Yankees doesn't?. So realistically, I see us bringing Bay back, signing either Rich Harden or Erick Bedard, bringing back Gonzalez, and bringing back Baldelli.

blanks played the outfield, and anderson would have to learn to play the OF if the sox got A-gone and moved youk to 3B.(A-Gone is gold glove caliber 1B so he wouldnt DH after Ortiz is gone unless he becomes injury prone).
Posted by: Steven | November 10, 2009 at 04:49 PM
No thanks on Lackey and Scutaro. If Lackey really believes he is worth Burnett $$ (which Burnett is obviously not worth) more power to him. I'm positive that Theo would not get involved at this ridiculous amount of money. Scutaro is a decent player, but at his age and with his career averages, he is not going to be anywhere near the $18-$20M total over the next 3 years which he will probably get.
