The Hardy trade wouldn't be bad even if he only maintains his 2009 performance... the guy is one of the best defensive shortstops in the game and his bat was still a lot better than Gomez's. Overall I'd call this a steal for Minnesota.

I still don't like the Teahen trade for the White Sox...but this does make a LOT more sense than the initial report on here.
When they said Teahen would play RF in place of departing Dye I seriously thought that the White Sox had lost their minds.
I said then, that the only way this makes any sense is to put Teahen at 3B and Beckham at 2B.
Even here, I still think it's a bad deal for the White Sox.....but we shall see.

JOEYB33,
The difference between Hardy and Jeter is Jeter doesn't make his living as being a power hitting SS. Yes, Jeter showed some power this year (thank you yankee stadium), but typically he's around 10 HRs a year.
Hardy's value has come from his power. He lost it this year....will he get it back? Hard to say. Being outdoors now in Minnesota probably isn't the best place to try and get it back, but we'll see.
I do like the trade either way. Gomez was a bench bat and not showing much improvement. Span is their Cer. Plus, they have 2 top prospects that are OFers, so they have backup options.

Teahen trade: Great move by KC. Two young players that could turn into starters. They're also under team control for a gajillion more years.
Hardy trade: Boy, the Twins bought low on this one. They acquired a run-producing SS who is also a strong defender for a 4th OF. Yes, I do like Gomez, but I don't see him as an everyday player. Hardy IS an everyday player, and the departure of Gomez eliminates the clutter in MIN's OF. However, it shows that they have ultimately LOST the Santana trade.

Teahen could be the perfect swing player on the ChiSox next year. He can play corner OF, 3B, some 2B. I agree the Sox should probably not be absolutely counting on the guy to step right in and put up 25/85-90 RBI lines a 280Avg and a 800+ Ops or anything, but work on his swing during ST and the early part of the year, utilize his mobility and then see if they can move him to 3B, or a corner OF spot later on full time.
Moving from KC to the much friendlier confines of the new Comisky is bound to help his power numbers, we can only help that doing so will not make his K numbers go up even further, then trying to fix that huge swing of his should be step #1.
It's not like they gave up an awful lot for him, a buy pretty low scenario if you ask me for a player with his potential, not as low as Hermedia that Boston got, but Teahen has a much higher ceiling also.

Did they lose on the Santana trade? They've been to the playoffs, have the Mets since? If Hardy does regain his post 09 swagger then they still gain him in the grand scheme of it all. IMO it's a great deal for the Twins. I also think KC made out great too.

The twins initially lost the santana trade by giving up santana for mulvey, humber, gomez, and gurrera but since then they traded mulvey for rauch and gomez for hardy. so now the trade looks like this
Santana = Ace
for
Hardy = power hitting starting short stop
Rauch = Good set up/ late relief pitcher
Humber = Bust/minor league free agent
Gurrera = Potential ace
Now the trade is looking better cause of what we have gotten from the pieces and that santana has been hurt
