After a battle for the first base job during Spring Training with top prospect Logan Morrison, Gaby Sanchez came out on top. Sanchez had just two major league starts to his credit coming into this season, but he has done well in the full-time position thus far. In 12 games, Sanchez has hit .308/.426/.538.
Meanwhile, as an item on the ESPN MLB Rumors page points out, Morrison is also performing well for the club's Triple-A affiliate. The 22-year-old lefty has an OPS of 1.066 and a pair of home runs in ten games. While sample size is obviously an issue here, one wonders if more of the same from Morrison could make Sanchez expendable. Prior to this season, ESPN.com's Keith Law ranked Morrison as the #21 prospect in baseball.
Dealing the Miami-born Sanchez could certainly help the Marlins get a boost in other areas. In the past, they have managed to catch lightning in a bottle when building their bullpen. However, GM Michael Hill would likely feel more comfortable if he could pick up some additional relief help this season. The Marlins have already parted ways with four of their relief additions from this offseason: Jose Veras, Mike MacDougal, Seth McClung, and Derrick Turnbow.

Sanchez is doing a phenomenal job in the #8 spot in the lineup, no need to mess with a good thing.
Dont think it would be a matchup with Sanchez, but they could talk to the Dodgers about pen help. With Kuo and Belisario coming back in the next week, we will have a lot of high talent, proven, MLB relievers…
Logan didn’t hit MLB pitching well in the Spring – I think they would sooner trade him.
I don’t. Morrison is the more talented player and is just now in AAA. You can’t use a spring’s worth of at-bats to determine that he can’t hit ML pitching.
I remeber last year the Marlins had offered the Red Sox Delcarmen for Sanchez straight up.
If Sanchez continues to play like this marlins can get some good return
Gaby has proven he can play.. chances are when Morisson gets promoted he goes to the outfield and Gaby stays where he is at. As much as I hate to say it I see Uggs getting traded before the deadline for a closer and mid-level prospect
meaning Coggs would take opver at 2nd and leaving a vacant spot in the outfield for Logan
Comparing Sanchez’s defense to Dunn’s is insulting to Sanchez lol. He’s a 3B learning to play 1B, he’s improved over the first week of the season already. He’s not going to be a Derrick Lee but he will get the job done.
