NL Central Notes: Lee, Betancourt, Melvin, Darvish

Tuesday afternoon's NL Central items:

  • Carlos Lee's limited no-trade clause supersedes his ten-and-five rights, according to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart (on Twitter). The Astros have reportedly been telling teams they'll eat half of Lee's salary in a trade.
  • The Brewers have talked to Yuniesky Betancourt's agent about bringing the shortstop back, but haven't made an offer, tweets Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
  • In a piece for Baseball America, Haudricourt explains why Brewers GM Doug Melvin was baseball's top executive in 2011.
  • Manager Dale Sveum says the Cubs haven't talked about bidding on Yu Darvish, tweets Yahoo's Steve Henson.

Carlos Lee at 1 yr 9 million? Doesn’t sound “too” bad.

According to Fangraphs, Lee at first base for $9M would be about right.  Can’t imagine what the Astros expect other than payroll relief.

  3. On behalf of most fans in the NL Central,  PLEASEEEEE BREWERS , BRING BACK YUNI FOR SHORT STOP

Those offensive numbers are nice but his defense is so fun to watch as the opposition

      i love his .271obp

    • As much as I like Melvin and Roenicke (I do, for the most part), I cannot believe how blind they are when watching this guy try to play baseball.

  4. “Brewers interested in Betancourt” followed by “Melvin is GM of the year.” What?

Umm does anyone else believe that Theo Epstein hasn’t talked about Yu Darvish?  New Managers 101 says if you are going to lie at least make it believable…lol
