White Sox Claim Hector Noesi

By Mark Polishuk | April 25, 2014 at 1:07pm CDT

The White Sox have claimed right-hander Hector Noesi off waivers from the Rangers, Texas executive VP of communications John Blake tweets.  Noesi was designated for assignment by the Rangers earlier this week.

This is Noesi’s third team is two weeks, as Texas just acquired him from Seattle on April 12.  Noesi threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings in his first two appearances as a Ranger and was then hammered for seven runs in a single inning of work on April 20 against (ironically) the White Sox.  The righty has an ungainly 14.21 ERA for the season and owns a career 5.81 ERA over 196 2/3 IP with the Mariners, Rangers and Yankees.

With Noesi claimed, it leaves only Steve Pearce (Orioles) and Matt Daley (Yankees) in DFA limbo according to the MLB Trade Rumors DFA Tracker.

Probably just a AAA depth claim, so I doubt it.

Means they will be giving him a 40-man spot still. Unless they plan on just trying to pass him through again themselves.

Yeah true, sorry about that. Still, I’m optimistic, maybe Coop’ll fix’em.

Out of options, would have to clear waivers to go to AAA.

Interestingly enough, we pretty much rocked this guy like a week ago, now he’s with us, irony is weird sometimes…

Sox bullpen is in shambles right now. Some of it’s bad luck (7th highest BABIP in ML) but most of it is due to poor control/too many walks (highest BB/9 in baseball). Noesi is not exactly a guy known for being a big strike thrower in the majors but I give Rick Hahn credit for making moves to try to improve the bullpen instead of sitting on his hands..

That’s true, for all the naysaying that I’m sure will come, he’s being much more active than Kenny was. That in and of itself is a vast improvement and it makes me very excited about the deadline. Also, I really feel that despite our Pen woes, some of the guys are slowly starting to figure it out.

I agree with Kevin. They seem to be coming around a little bit as of late. In regards to the high BABIP, I wouldn’t call it bad luck really. They have been down 2-0 or 3-1 to the heavy majority of batters they face, which means they are generally going to get hit pretty hard.

I find it hard to believe that the whole pen can be this wild going forward though. Hopefully they keep improving.

Makes you wonder if he was maybe tipping his pitches and the White Sox feel they can resolve something.

I guess the White Sox saw something in him when they scored 7 runs off of him in his last inning as a Ranger.

Noesi is MLB’s newest hot potato. Wonder how long he’ll be with the White Sox…

Note/correction: Matt Daley was put under that optional assignment thing where they DFA him without exposing him to other clubs. He is still on the Yankees’ 40-man roster.

Noesi is going to be the Casper Wells of 2014. Stop looking at how fast he can throw a ball, it doesnt mean he can effectively pitch!
