Gotham Baseball: Rockies Want Milledge?
One oif the more interesting things I heard in this week's follow up calls after the GM Meetings was the Colorado Rockies' interest in Lastings Milledge.
Though I keep hearing from those inside and outside of the team's inner circle that Milledge is still a player they expect to blossom in New York, I can't help but think that the Mets are focused on moving forward...without Lastings.
Another very interesting tidbit was a rumor of the Tigers and Reds talking Adam Dunn

Milledge as some part of a Jennings deal, perhaps? I could see something like that happening.

I thought the Rockies were set at the corner OF spots. Acquiring Milledge at the likely cost seems like a mistake to me.

If I'm talking to the Rockies about a trade, I would absolutely insist on one guy being part of the deal and that is Ubaldo Jimenez.
If they put Jeff Francis out there, I'd listen, but in the end, I'd probably do whatever it takes to hold them hostage for Jimenez.
I'd give up Milledge and add Bannister or something for Jimenez alone.
This kid would be unreal in any park except Colorado.

I'll put it this way...
If Jimenez could get out of Colorado, he'd instantaneously be the top pitcher in the minors.
Ahead of Bailey, Veal, Gallardo, Niemann, anyone you want to name.
This guy is high 90's heat, with command of a great breaking ball and a decent change. He has a live arm with natural life on a blistering fastball.
This guy would absolutely shred some major league bats even right now.

Ubaldo's minor league stats, last 2 years.
It's good, but it's not best-in-the-game good.
I'm sure there's promise there, though.

The bad stats were accumulated in Colorado Springs you moron.
Colorado Springs is the same as Colorado.
Barry Zito would get crushed pitching there too.
Leave the minor league evaluations to the people who know what they're talking about.

Ok, I'm sorry for calling you a moron.
Learn the parks before u judge.
If you don't know the circumstances under which stats were accumulated, then you don't know anything.....

I would deal bannister and milledge for jennings and fuentes if possible.

THat's a tough call raykim.
I don't think we have seen the best of Milledge yet. With that said, Jennings and Fuentes would be a pretty nice package and would make our team look considerably better on paper.

Um, if you're referring to me, I'm not sure what scathing remarks I made that judge him so harshly. Perhaps it was the "It's good, but it's not best-in-the-game good.
I'm sure there's promise there, though." I can see how I'd be ashamed to have his mother read that. I should have really toned it down a bit.
I'm aware it was Colorado Springs. Cuz it says it right next to his stats. Um, duh. And no, I didn't think Colorado Springs was in Miami.
I said he's good, but he's not "Ahead of Bailey, Veal, Gallardo, Niemann, anyone you want to name." That's a very bold comment to back up.

Liek I said, I'm sorry I was so harsh.
Wait til you see Jimenez pitch a road game when he's got his command.
He's filthy.

ejruiz milledge is a centerfielder, one of the reasons he looked so shaky playing corner outfield positions when he came up to the mets. CF is probably the biggest need the rockies have. To put it nicely, their outfield defense sucks. They tried sullivan out there, spilborghs, choo freeman, and i dont even know who else, none of whom worked out. They needa fast centerfielder to track down fly balls in that spacious coors outfield. Bsox I dont know a great deal about jimenez, but ill go ahead and trust what you say about him. I would also have to listen if jennings or francis' names came up. Both young pitchers, I think Jennings will be a free agent next season, but do you know how much longer francis is under contract? I'm not sure bannister and milledge would get us jennings and fuentes, but would we really need fuentes? I mean Sanchez will be back, and as long as heilman returns, i dont see how getting another closer would help. Make him into a middle reliever? I dont know, feliciano, 6 heeilman 7, sanchez 8, wagner 9 seems like a good bridge to the end of the game for me. I guess we could then flip fuentes somewhere else for another pitcher or something, but, i say lets make it happen. I like francis or jennings. Another top prospect arm in the minors like jimenez couldnt hurt either
