Matt Harrison Removed From Teixeira Deal

UPDATE: Sent Bowman an email about Harrison - it was definitely supposed to be his left (pitching) shoulder.  The MLB.com article has been updated.

22 year-old Double A southpaw Matt Harrison might be the Braves' top pitching prospect, and he was part of the team's offer for Mark Teixeira.  However, Harrison is having shoulder problems and has apparently been removed from the deal.  Ken Rosenthal does not indicate which shoulder, while MLB.com's Mark Bowman repeatedly says it's his right shoulder.  Harrison is to see a doctor on Monday.

Furthermore, one source of Bowman's thinks Harrison is still in the Braves' offer along with Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Elvis Andrus.  Another source of Bowman's believes the injury isn't a dealbreaker.

Rosenthal, however, says the Braves gave Texas a list of pitchers to choose instead of Harrison, not including Jo-Jo Reyes.  Rosenthal adds that talks are fluid and it could become a 4 for 2 deal.  That might convince the Braves to part with Reyes.

Salty was the only position player not used in today's 14-0 blowout; Brian McCann did not get relief.  That decision certainly seems related to an impending trade.

Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks inquired on Teixeira and were told it would take Conor Jackson, Carlos Gonzalez, and a pitching prospect.  The Dodgers have been slipping while Arizona has been playing well, and the result is a virtual tie for first place.  It would be interesting if the Diamondbacks jump in and become aggressive buyers.

Harrison is nowhere close to 27 years old.

xxxJames, your right Harrison isn't 27

Matt Harrison | Starting Pitcher
TEAM: Atlanta Braves
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'5' / 205
DOB: 8/16/1985
AGE: 21

I don't know who else the braves plan on offering up, but I sure hope they can get a deal with a reliever like Wilson or Gagne. That would be nasty.

They should offer up Jo-Jo. He is probably one of the most overrated pitching prospects in the game. I would much rather have Harrison than him going forward and Tim, where did you get 27 from?

Trading Thomas Hanson instead of Harrison would make me a very happy Met fan. (Although I suspect that Hanson is not one of the names on the list)

I still think that the Braves should ask for no less than Tex AND C.J. Wilson in return for the packages that are being rumored. Maybe the Braves could bridge the gap by offering up a couple of reclamation projects like Thorman and/or Davies.

Just a typo kids

I bet you would like to see Hanson but I doubt they are moving him. I talked to someone who has been to one of his games and this is what he told me. Fluid delivery, imposing on the mound, mid-90's fastball with a ton of movement, above-average change, and an absolute knee-buckling curve with good command. That looks very nice to me.

also tim, creative nickname. I have seen Teixeira and I have seen Tex, but never Teix.

We might have to start calling him Teix if he leaves Texas.

Yeah I've always wondered about that...if you are nicknaming me do I become Dierk? Or Dirk? Tough call.

Well, calling you Dirk would put you in the shadow of the NBA MVP, and thats a big german shadow to be in. I dont think I know anybody nicknamed Dierk, besided my 6th grade wood shop teacher, Mr. Dierking. He also happened to be a pedophile, but that is neither here nor there. I hardly think that the nickname of Dierk would lead anybody to suspect you are somehow tied to the old pedophile woodshop teacher from albert leonard middle school. I think Dierk is the way to go, but thats just me.

How bout Derk

Whenever I don't know the lyrics to the song I usually just go Derkaderkaderk

My fantasy team's name is also the Derkaderks, oh how the children made fun

Anyway Dirk or Derk or Dierk or Dick or whatever isn't too far off from Dierkes if it's still just one sylable

Like is it pronounced Dirks or Dirk-es

I've got a nice 3:00 AM CST Monday morning recap of the Tex situation available here:

Could the Diamondbacks be a darkhorse in the race for Teix?
