« Carlos Gonzalez For Chad Cordero? | Main | Dye To Boston May Be Dead; Extension Coming? »
According to Buster Olney (via RotoWorld), the Padres have traded for third baseman Morgan Ensberg.
Kevin Kouzmanoff might be well-served with a platoon partner, but it would make sense to get someone who hits righties. Both Kouzmanoff and Ensberg excel against southpaws, Kouzmanoff more so this year. Give Kouzmanoff a mulligan for his awful April (his first full month in the bigs), and he's hit .273/.328/.486. Nothing amazing, but why would Ensberg be any better?

SD's bench has gotten real crowded in the last few days.

You know what? This trade deadline has been way better than in recent years. I woke up at 1:45 today :)

May be so, but they are bringing in players they know can play. They all have major league experience.

Kevin Towers, master of the "ho-hum" deal.

Haven't they acquired every middle of the road player available ?
Will they be platooning at every position ?
Posted by: Blutarski | July 31, 2007 at 02:29 PM
Kaz,
I couldnt disagree more! These are the ones which will make a huge difference ~ its solidifying the bench with a ton of depth and experience, something most teams cant say they have.
These are the types of deals which get little headlines but make a huge impact. The fact that the Pads have upgraded their depth with so little given up makes them a clear winner over the last couple weeks...

Did TimPup get the Double Whopper or Quarter Pounder for MoBerg? Personally, I think the Double Whopper is overrated.

I heard the Astros got Ken Caminiti's ghost and a Fred McGriff game worn jock strap.
Posted by: Darin | July 31, 2007 at 02:40 PM
hehe.. The Astros did a nice job jilling whatever value Ensberg had. Why not trade him during spring training..
PURPURA IS AN IDIOT.
Their major league roster sucks, their minor league system is one of the worst in the game. They only have Patton.
The Astros have nothing going on the next 3 or so years unless they spend lots of money. But they won't cause McLane is an a$$. They lost games because of Biggio and his 3.000 hits by making the guy hit against rhp. The Astros are terrible.
And why does the Astros always look to add the guy from texas instead of the guy who can actually hit or pitch..

Ensberg has actually been looking better at the plate in recent weeks, so if San Diego got him on the cheap, it could be a high-reward gamble.
Any word on who Houston gets in return?
Posted by: gundy315 | July 31, 2007 at 02:40 PM
No, I think Purpura got "The Baconator" :D

The Astros got the Pads to include a Twinkie for Lance Berkman; that much has been confirmed.

Bruce Levine says now the Pads are after Manny Mota and Smokey Burgess.
You never have enough pinch hitters.

The 'Stros get one of these two guys:
-Cash Considerations
-Player To Be Named Later
I hope they get the first guy, because I don't know how they'll stitch the second guy's name on a jersey.

I dont know INWarner, that PTBNL guy is kind of popular ~ you hear his name all the time. He must be one heck of a gamer!
They could always go the Prince route and just give him a symbol...

Houston Chronicle story on the Ensberg deal... Says it's Ensberg and cash for PTBNL or cash
http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5015186.html

Pads get Ensberg for cash or PTBNL, ie 50 bucks, a box of jock straps, o and a 75 year old batboy. Way to go Tim P wait till a player isn't worth squat then release him. Man we've got the worst GM in baseball!!

i second that^^^. i think that if we got together a group of really smart stros fans from this site we could run the team better than he could. could we do worse?
