Why on earth would the Twins trade Morneau for Kotchman and Santana?
Posted by: moebarguy | November 27, 2007 at 10:29 PM
Morneau for Kotchman and Santana would prove to be one of the worst trades of all time. Morneau is the best young 1st baseman in baseball and would require more than those two in a trade. It'd probably take 2 or 3 of the guys being shopped in the Cabrera deal.

This one shouts out internet based rumor. Justin Morneau could get the twins a far better package than Ervin Santana and Casey Kotchman in the first place, and I think the twins would have already let it be known he was avaliable if they were to trade him. Plus, I think that the Twins, with their hole at third base, would ask for brandon wood above kotchman. Now, if you want to talk brandon wood, casey kotchman, and santana for morneau, you may have something there, but i highly doubt the twins would trade morneau at the moment, and they would have to be absolutely blown away to do any deal, and the kotchman and santana package is not exactly that.
With all that being said, if the twins were to trade morneau, I can agree that the angels are a very good plan b if they find that miguel cabrera would be worth too much. And yes, I think that if the angels offered wood, kotchman, and santana or saunders, they could very well get morneau. Do not think he will be traded, but can definteily see him being traded to the angels if he is traded.

Not sure how much faith I have in the Morneau for Kotch and Santana rumor, but that would be crazy if they could add Miggy Cabrera, Torii Hunter, Garland, and Morneau all in one off season

This stinks of rumor desperation!

Hey Ozzie:
How could they add Miggy and Mourneau???
The Angels only have so many guys to trade. The guys FLA and MIN would demand are the SAME PLAYERS. They couldn't get both and probably won't get either.
However, if trading Kendrick is holding up the deal for Miggy then the Angels are fucking insane.

this morneau for kotchman and santana rumor does not have the "FedEx Drive Seal of Approval"...sorry.

Does anyone know who at 570AM is associated with "breaking" this rumor? If it's "Big Joe" McDonnell, who often cites his "insiders" that he cannot ever name, it's pretty much full of s--t.
Anyone who recalls the "Matt Clement is on the 5 freeway on his way to sign a contract with the Angels" story knows what I'm talking about.

That said, Santana and Kotchman for Morneau? Um, yes please.
Shoot, you can have Santana for a bag of chips. Stale chips.

I know what your talking about Alec_Berrrg, and Joe McDonnell should stick with what he does best: eating twinkies and talking wrestling!

"Morneau is the best young 1st baseman in baseball"
Morneau finished 15th out of 18 1Bs in OPS in 2007. Depending on your definition of young, you've got Pujols and Teixeira (both a year older) easily ahead of him. Regardless of your definition, you've got Prince Fielder. There's probably a strong case for Adrian Gonzalez. So I disagree.
(And if you're going to mention the MVP, google "Zolio Versalles" or "Jeff Burroughs")

nice work not joe morgan. Norneau is NOT the best young first basemen in baseball.

i think a package of wood/santanna/kotchman would be fair to both sides if anything to the twins as wood could potentially be a 40+HR guy however its potential at the moment so i could see this happening it fills the twins need while getting a very reliable 1B in kotchman who has outstandin defense and projects to 20HR 305average

As far as bonser goes, i think that the twins and Drays match=up very nicely in terms of a rocco baldelli for pitcher trade. Bonser may make the most sense as a possible return, since he probably does not have as high a ceiling as Slowey or baker. I would thin that the twins could throw in a bullpen piece as well, but i could see a deal getting done.
Posted by: bravesbeast | November 27, 2007 at 11:55 PM
angels could do
wood+Santanna+Kotchamn for Monreau
then
Adenheart+Kendrick+Willits+Mathis for MCAB
yeah it would be overpaying some but if it gets you a lineup of Vlad/MCAB/Monreau/Hunter its worth it and if 2 years from now if we cant pay for one of Monreau or MCAB we could tehn trade them and get lots in return from them similar to what we are giving up so lets overpay if we have to but lets make a serious run at the world series
Posted by: halo27 | November 28, 2007 at 12:06 AM
Halo, I hope that isnt the actual order you would hit those guys!
If you look at the stats, Hunter should probably be the 7 or 8 hitter in the Anaheim lineup.

i feel sorry for twins fans a tad bit . losing hunter and santana in the same off season . however , giving santana and hunter what they want would hand cuff the team and i believe they could actually be better if they can get some key pieces back in a deal for santana . i am a cub fan and i feel sick that the cubs are spending so much money and they don't even have the talent to make it to the world series . hendry has messed up the team . you can only add on so many rooms to a house before the floor plan looks like crap . the cubs need to tear down this team and build it back up because shelling out that kind of money to soriano and zambrano make me sick .zambrano should have been traded last summer .

Yeah, obviously this one was bogus ~ it would be stupid… I mean, why would you trade “Top-Prospect/Prospect/Good 1B” for “Good 1B making millions”? I can see where the Twins would do it in a heartbeat, but the Angels would have had to have a gas-leak in the building for the last month to be pondering a deal like this…
…Although…Mathews…Hunter… ~ maybe there is a gas leak somewhere near the stadium offices…
BTW, Tim ~ is there really nothing that can be done about TypeKey? I mean, I don’t know whats worse; the fact that it automatically signs you out after every post or two, or the fact that it acts like you are still signed in despite the fact it has automatically signed you out…
