NOOOOOO TIM!! DONT LEAVE US UNINFORMED! WHY GOD WHY!!

Sweeny Murti on the WFAN:
YANKEES BELIEVE SANTANA IS A HEADED TO BOSTON
Posted by: Jzzskins | December 04, 2007 at 12:31 PM
You mean that I actually have to work now?!?
Posted by: jessethebody | December 04, 2007 at 12:31 PM
So I guess this proves that Tim isn't fully machine. Cyborg, anyone?
Posted by: El Hombre | December 04, 2007 at 12:32 PM
From Rotoworld:
The Boston Herald reports that the A’s and Diamondbacks have had constructive talks about a deal which would send Dan Haren to Arizona and Conor Jackson and Carlos Gonzalez along with two more players to Oakland.
The A's wouldn't get the center fielder they want, but a package fronted by Jackson and Gonzalez would be very good. Jackson and Daric Barton would be paired as a first base/DH combination in Oakland, while Gonzalez could step into an outfield corner in 2009. If the Diamondbacks trade Jackson, they could then re-sign Tony Clark to play first base.

Tim may need a 2nd week off after the effort he's putting in here.
Posted by: Paul AKA twinsfan | December 04, 2007 at 12:38 PM
according to a philly sports radio station santana just was dealt to boston for the lester/crisp/2 minor lgr's package. how could they not want ellsbury over lester/crisp combo? pass on hughes/melky instead of this? wow they must have been really upset with HANK! SOX SUCK!
Posted by: ShamrockMarc | December 04, 2007 at 12:39 PM
Tim you've been doing a phenomenal job with the site these last couple of days keeping up with the rumors. I couldn't be more grateful.
Posted by: JakeOD21 | December 04, 2007 at 12:40 PM
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK TIM!!
Posted by: el clash combo | December 04, 2007 at 12:40 PM
Yeah, I really don't feel like working today. He needs to hurry up. lol.

I thought you had to go somewhere Tim?
Posted by: DonCoburleone | December 04, 2007 at 12:40 PM
prove it shamrockmarc, we need the proof for that please
Posted by: 04Forever | December 04, 2007 at 12:41 PM
How can the Yankees let Santana go to the Red Sox? They do realize that they may as well not even play the games next year now right?
Posted by: DonCoburleone | December 04, 2007 at 12:42 PM
Yankee fans need to realize that Melky sucks. Hughes is a stud but hes not worth Lester/Masterson/Lowrie unless the Yanks pony up another decent prospect or 2

Nats acquire Tyler Clippard for reliever Jonathan Albaladejo.
Posted by: nckdmss | December 04, 2007 at 12:44 PM
But in all seriousness. Tim you are doing a kick ass job with all these rumors. Really appreciate MLBTR.
Posted by: Braves1029 | December 04, 2007 at 12:46 PM
the twins went with a deal that didnt involve bucholtz or elesbury, when hughes and melky cabrara was on the table, damn, i think the twins made a mistake.
also great job tim
Posted by: dchess | December 04, 2007 at 12:47 PM
a friend in my office who's from philly said his brother who's in philly now just heard it on WWIP. it's 640 am i believe. thats all i was told. no other proof than that. i cant find it anywhere on the net.
Posted by: ShamrockMarc | December 04, 2007 at 12:48 PM
Sweeny Murti, WFAN's Yankees beat reporter was just on Mike and the Mad Dog radio show and said the Yanks believe Santana is going to the red Sox. he said talks now turning for the Yanks going after Haren.
Posted by: Chaiyya | December 04, 2007 at 12:48 PM
yes tim, i love this site, ive never been more glued to my computer from November to July on a certain site since i found MLBTR, keep up the great work
Posted by: 04Forever | December 04, 2007 at 12:49 PM
I think it's insane that Tim actually posted his 30-minute hiatus as news. He's definitely more machine than flesh.
Posted by: johnflaherty | December 04, 2007 at 12:49 PM
So with Santanna gone, what does the package needed to get Bedard become?
What is the real worth, trade worthy cost, of Tejeda?
Posted by: jdouble777 | December 04, 2007 at 12:50 PM
I don't think the trade has happened yet... Why wouldn't Minnesota just wait? There is plenty of time to get a deal done, and I'm sure they'd rather get a package centering around Phil Hughes over Jon Lester... And what's with Lester anyway? Am I missing something about him? Doesn't he project to like a #3 starter at best?
Posted by: DonCoburleone | December 04, 2007 at 12:50 PM
Bruce Levine is talking about a KC Teahan for Cubs Murton swap...
Posted by: FireDoc83 | December 04, 2007 at 12:51 PM
Said it in the Johan thread, but figured I would repeat it here since its been mentioned:
About two weeks ago the Yankees went to the Twins about Johan ~ he wasn’t available. Now after its learned that they might be having a hard time resigning him, the Yankees were back at the door with more inquires. After a few days they have become impatient though, and that impatience is just about to lead to a previously uninterested BoSox team ending up with the best pitcher in baseball. Yanks want him, can’t be patient for even 1 week, and end up sending him to the BoSox because of it. I must say, pretty interesting way of conducting business on Hank and his Hank’ees part…
Posted by: darkstar1661 | December 04, 2007 at 12:51 PM
The Braves should get Santana, Bedard, AND Haren. And Miguel Cabrera. That would solve some problems.
Posted by: Land-Man | December 04, 2007 at 12:52 PM
Philly AM sports talk is 610-WIP (and not the most reliable source in the world)...
Posted by: mets1986 | December 04, 2007 at 12:52 PM
Santana to Boston is official...it's being reported on the radio here in Texas
Posted by: zippy06 | December 04, 2007 at 12:55 PM
So basically you are confirming the Santana trade from a friend of friend who heard it on an unreliable radio station. Seems logical.
Posted by: HazelMaesLandingStrip | December 04, 2007 at 12:56 PM
From ESPN's Peter Gammons:
"Sources indicate the Twins are still trying to decide between a 3-for-1 trade for center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury, infielder Jed Lowrie, pitching prospect Justin Masterson and a 4-for-1 swap that substitutes lefty starter Jon Lester and center fielder Coco Crisp for Ellsbury."
So nothing's changed, really...
Posted by: metafrantic | December 04, 2007 at 12:58 PM
zippy it comes from a source that has given me info earlier than other sources prior and has been correct so i'm going with it. but apparently in TX they've heard the same ZIPPY.
Posted by: ShamrockMarc | December 04, 2007 at 12:58 PM
Maybe you don't understand how this works Tim....
Posted by: TrueCubsFan | December 04, 2007 at 01:00 PM
I just took a break from work to grab a bite to eat, and I heard that Santana to Boston is official...according to some guys (Tom, John and the Dawgs)...on sports radio talk 1324 AM here in Texas
Posted by: zippy06 | December 04, 2007 at 01:00 PM
how recent is that article meta?
Posted by: 04Forever | December 04, 2007 at 01:01 PM
ESPN has nothing, Yahoo! sports has nothing, Sports Illustrated has nothing. I am hesitant to believe what some radio stations have reported. How would these Texas/Philly radio sources get the info before the national networks? Not saying there is no way it's true, but until I see some major sources confirm it, it's still a rumor.
Posted by: Lezard | December 04, 2007 at 01:03 PM
12:50 p.m. EST. It also says that the Sox and Twins are meeting again this afternoon, so it doesn't sound like a deal is done.
Posted by: metafrantic | December 04, 2007 at 01:03 PM
So what would the package necessary to pry Bedard from the O's become after Santanna is signed?
Bedard had a 3.16, 221 Ks, and pitched 182 innings, is 24 and makes only 3.5million over the next two years to Johan's 3.33, 219 IP, 235 Ks, 28, making 13 next year and then 20+ for whatever many years

Sorry, here's the link:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=3140986&name=winter_meetings
All the ESPN people are adding their two cents there: Gammons, Stark, Crasnick, Nelson, etc.
Posted by: metafrantic | December 04, 2007 at 01:05 PM
i hate to say it but i have to agree with Lezard, until it is broadcast on a national circuit that we can all read, we have to still treat this as a rumor still
Posted by: 04Forever | December 04, 2007 at 01:05 PM
Well if i had my choice i kind of hope Santana goes to the sox. But does anyone not think the Yanks will go out and get one of either Haren or Bedard and be just fine!
Posted by: badgermann | December 04, 2007 at 01:06 PM
we all know you can't believe anything ESPN says...Les Miles going to Michigan...total B.S. um 12:50 EST equates to 11:50 central time. It's now 1:05pm here
Posted by: zippy06 | December 04, 2007 at 01:06 PM
2:00 update on NY WFAN made no mention of redsox deal being final
Posted by: touchmymonkey | December 04, 2007 at 01:06 PM
thanks meta
well, im from boston, so i have to agree with Gammons for the time being, although i hope something materialized after that article was finished. i also hope they take the package of four guys, that would be wicked pisser
Posted by: 04Forever | December 04, 2007 at 01:07 PM
If Oakland gets Conor Jackson to go along with Daric Barton and Nick Swisher, what happens to Jack Cust?
Posted by: scatterbrian | December 04, 2007 at 01:08 PM
jdouble777, Bedard is 28, not 24; his birthday is March 5, 1979. Also, he's got 2 years of arbitration left, but considering the year he just had he's due a huge raise from the 3.5m he made in 2007. He'll probably earn at least $8m next year.
Posted by: metafrantic | December 04, 2007 at 01:09 PM
Yeah the Santana "deal is done" reports sound very premature. Sounds like they're still talking amicably, but nothing's finalized.
Posted by: metafrantic | December 04, 2007 at 01:11 PM
I can honestly 100% tell you the Santana deal is NOT finalized. The Twins have not yet made their decision.
Those of you know know me know the value of this guarantee, I apologize to those who I haven't yet met because I can't offer you any guarantee about it. But at least feel confident that this deal IS NOT finalized.
Posted by: tyler | December 04, 2007 at 01:11 PM
Zippy, Haren and specially Bedard will cost the Yankees a whole lot more than Santana
Posted by: RedSoxNation | December 04, 2007 at 01:11 PM
Would it make sense that the Twins would call the Yankees and see if they have a last minute offer? Surly Santana is worth more than Austin Jackson, especially if the Sox are in position to get Johan.
Posted by: thebenjamin | December 04, 2007 at 01:11 PM
Conor Jackson could play OF? They were trying to "show case" him for the whitesox last trade deadline as a LF.
Posted by: badgermann | December 04, 2007 at 01:12 PM
Redsoxnation, I didn't say that badgermann did
Posted by: zippy06 | December 04, 2007 at 01:12 PM
Read this on rotoworld
The Kansas City Star believes the Braves are offering Chuck James to the Royals for David DeJesus.
It's a pretty good offer if true, though James would likely lose quite a bit following a league change. If the Royals trade DeJesus, they could then offer Andruw Jones a one- or two-year deal. They could also look at Corey Patterson and Kenny Lofton as short-term options. The Rangers are also believed to be interested in DeJesus.
Posted by: badgermann | December 04, 2007 at 01:13 PM
onley was just on the radio ~ says the two sides are still talking but it seems really near to being a done deal.
He also says that Pettitte saying he would pitch in 2008 is a big reason the Yanks might be backing off. Would also lead people to believe they would back off other big name SPers as well I imagine.
Posted by: darkstar1661 | December 04, 2007 at 01:13 PM
Haren and Bedard's peripheral numbers aren't even close to Santana's. Santana is far and away the best pitcher in MLB
Posted by: DRWebs | December 04, 2007 at 01:14 PM
I really don't get the whole "backing off because Pettitte came back" idea. The Yanks still "need" an ace, and that "need" is made that much more "glaring" to their fanbase if the Sox get Santana. It's just funny to watch a team that refuses to accept rebuilding and would instead like to get themselves back in the situation where they deplete their farm system for expensive stars.
Posted by: hawkeyenation | December 04, 2007 at 01:17 PM
tyler, maybe if you weren't illiterate people might listen to your gurantees
Posted by: dchess | December 04, 2007 at 01:18 PM
STORY UPDATED 2:03PM, EST:
"Johan Santana's agent, Peter Greenberg indicated moments ago that he has not begun contract negotiations with any team at this stage, an indication a deal between Boston and the Twins might still have a ways to go.
Major League sources have also indicated there have been no discussions between the Twins and Red Sox yet today, though talks are planned later in the day. The medical information the Twins sought on Jon Lester was simply "due diligence" according to one official, and that nothing was imminent with the Twins-Red Sox, though that could change rapidly after their meeting later today.
Greenberg remains a key to the deal because the Sox have to agree on a multi-year deal with Santana in order for him to waive his full no-trade clause."

Bedard has never had that kind of strikeout rate. He's never struck out 1 per inning in his professional career. He also has never had such a low hit rate. He typically allows a hit per inning, to go along with a healthy amount of walks. Over rated.
Posted by: BoSoxRI | December 04, 2007 at 01:21 PM
According to a poster at "Sons of Sam Horn", ESPN's Buster Olney is on the radio now commenting on the Sox-Twins talks. The following is a a paraphrasing provided by the said poster...
- Twins and Red Sox are meeting as we speak, expected to pick Lester OR Ellsbury-centered package.
- Twins "like Ellsbury a lot", but some people in the organization want to get an ML-ready pitcher back in the deal.
- Red Sox "very confident" they will be able to work out long-term deal with Santana.
Posted by: copusd | December 04, 2007 at 01:28 PM
I thought at least one major deal would have been compeleted so far...
Posted by: zito4cyyoung | December 04, 2007 at 01:31 PM
dchess, that must be embarrassing. When you call someone out for being illiterate and you misspell guarantee. Check a dictionary.

tyler, i messed up on a word, not an entire sentence. who says know 4 times in 5 words
Posted by: dchess | December 04, 2007 at 01:49 PM
Bedard post 10.63 Ks per 9 innings, Johan just posted his worst ERA of his career and has a ton of innings on his arm
Posted by: jdouble777 | December 04, 2007 at 01:54 PM
hilarious chess and tyler...thats the most action we've seen all day!
Posted by: Aduncaroo | December 04, 2007 at 02:09 PM
Bedard has never had a k/9 better than 8 above A ball, until this year. He's always been over 3 BB/9, aside from this year (2.82). And never lower than 8.8 hits/9, aside from this year (6.97). This was his career year by far. He beat his 90% PECOTA prediction by a ton, especially K/9.
Posted by: BoSoxRI | December 04, 2007 at 03:50 PM
And Santana's worst ERA in the bigs was 6.49 back in 2000 when he was used mainly as a reliever (and was his first season).
