I don't understand that the Giants will trade for Matsui at 13 mill a year but not attempt to get Fukudome at 13 mill a year.
I hate you Brian Sabean

looking at the giants lineup makes me want to vomit. how can you possibly ever get excited about that?
Posted by: trober81 | December 07, 2007 at 12:10 PM
Colvin is a very good prospect...and it makes more sense, because he probably has a lot more worth than someone like Cedeno or Patterson. Gallegher and Colvin are two guys with high ceilings...so this makes much more sense to me. I hate to lose them, but Roberts would be well worth it.

What are they going to do with DeRosa? I'd like to see him at SS, but he lacks the range. I still think we need to deal from a strength for a weakness, not vice versa.

I'm not excited...
That's why I want Fukudome.
Fukudome > Dave Roberts
Fukudome > Randy Winn
Fukudome > Trading Lowry for Matsui

Jim Hendry has said the young talent that are untouchables are Rich Hill, Felix Pie, Sam Fuld, Jeff Samardzija and Tyler Colvin. I guess we'll see.

Why isn't Murton an Indian yet? He's clearly chopped liver in Chicago, and the Indians only need a complementary piece in the OF.

"Jim Hendry has said the young talent that are untouchables are Rich Hill, Felix Pie, Sam Fuld, Jeff Samardzija and Tyler Colvin."
Hendry has never said that Fuld and Samardzija are untouchable. I mean, Fuld? He's nothing more than a defensive replacement.

DeRosa is going to start for the Cubs 4-5 games a week as a sub for SS, 2B, RF, and LF. He will get 450 ABs easily next year. So we do need an everyday 2B. Cedano and Fontenot cant do it on a regular basis for the Cubs. Matsui would have been okay, but not for that price. Astros way overpaid. Roberts is a perfect fit for the Cubs at the right price. Gallagher and Colvin would be a steep price (I would rather see it be Fuld), but I would make that trade if I was GM of either team.

The Orioles wouldn't take Fuld....he has little trade value. He is a 26 year old rookie with very little upside. He'll be a good reserve for someone, someday.

Gallagher and Pie would be alright with me. Get him shopped before he gives people a good full season experience in MLB to analyze to death.
I know there are tons of people who still think Pie will be the second coming of Christ, but the more we see of him the more he seems like a guy with the Bust Potential of C-Patt.
If he only gets sporadic playing time again in '08 its gonna be a lot more difficult to keep touting him as a top prospect. I think his value right now is as high as it is ever going to be for people looking to add young talent.
I do love what Pie brings to the table defensively. If we dont get Fukudome or Swisher I say we force Pie to cover RF and CF at the same time. Just so long as it's Soriano in LF...because if for some reason it is Sam Fuld in LF on a given day him and Pie would set league records for balls out head on collisions.

just out of curiousity....
how do you pronounce "Fukodome"?

"Hendry has never said that Fuld and Samardzija are untouchable. I mean, Fuld? He's nothing more than a defensive replacement."
Well, you are wrong. Personally, I don't believe Fuld is untouchable, just repeating what Jim Hendry said. I don't make things up. Maybe the papers or sports talk makes up things, I pass them along. Don't shoot the messenger!

Colvin has nearly a 5:1 K/BB ratio in 189 minor league games, including 54/5 in AA last year. Granted he just turned 22.
And Fukodome is pronounced Foo-koh-doh-may

Posted by: Aduncaroo | December 07, 2007 at 01:35 PM

I remember Ken Williams was asked about Juan Pierre on sports talk a couple years back when Pierre was brought to the Cubs for 3 pitchers. Kenny was boasting they had Brian Anderson. I would not be suprised if they had some level of interest. I also would not look into it too much yet. Rowand is asking for a ton. I wonder where he ends up.

Well, now Fukudome has no choice, he has to play for a team in the states. From Japanball.com is a report from the Yumiuri Giants saying they have officially pulled out of the Fukudome "chase". They said they got word from the MLB's winter meetings, that the American clubs were offering more money than they could contend with. The report also claimed that it was between the Cubs and the Royals as to who would recieve his services. I just hope they don't know something medically that we do not.
