« Yanks Interested In Kazuo Fukumori | Main | Nats Extend Wily Mo Pena, Sign Aaron Boone »

Odds and Ends: Fukudome, Mahay, Santana

Rounding up some odds and ends for you...

  • I'd read that Akinori Otsuka recommended the Padres to Kosuke Fukudome, kind of glossed over the fact.  But Jamey Newberg has is rightly disappointed in the Rangers reliever.  After all, the Rangers have Fukudome in their sights, and Otsuka plays for the Rangers.
  • A good source tells me the Yankees believe they are in the lead for Ron Mahay, and think it can be done this upcoming week.  If it's true that Mahay has narrowed his choices to the Yanks and Royals, and the Royals have little interest, this makes sense.
  • MetsBlog reports that Johan Santana prefers to pitch for the Mets.  He likes the idea of moving to the NL.

Honesty from one human being to another, no need for anyone to get furious over. It was probably honesty saying if you go there, they have a REAL good chance of winning, which is true.

One friend telling the other to choose America's finest city.

Don't understand what there is to be mad about.

La Jolla in the day playing baseball in the night is a dream life.

Theres more to it to just being honest.

It would be honestly if a star said scrub player X is terrible and prospect Y should be playing by now.

There are a lot of things you can say that are honest that you shouldnt say, because its the wrong this to day.

A player on one a team thats pursuing a free agent recommending the free agent go to another team shows no respect or ettitquette, and saying there is nothing wrong with it is ridiculous.

Now, i have no idea what aki said. maybe it was just a harmless "I enjoyed my time tehre" and he also said hed otherwise like him to come to texas.

But ignoring that for the moment, come on, obviously there is something wrong with telling a player your team is pursuing to go to another team.

There's nothing wrong with that? Are you guys serious?

It's pretty blatant disrespect for Aki, knowing the Rangers are after Fukudome, to come out and tell him he recommends San Diego...

Now, if Fukudome came to him and said he was down to Chicago and San Diego like reported, then it's less of an issue...But it's still probably a line that shouldn't really be crossed.

Joe Cowley was on the Score this morning and said the Padres have drop out of the Fukudome race. Have you heard anything regarding that?

trying to connect small information blogs from several different sources likely compromises the situation anyway

there is no quote or anything fact based... just shows that aki enjoyed his stay in San Diego... like everyone

I dont see how that is anything to get stirred up about.

Or it could be as simple as Aki knows the Rangers suck and that they're going to suck for a long time. Why would he want to subject his friend to that?

I was busy and missed the Score this morning. So Cowley says the Padres are out of the Fukudome bid. I can't find anything online yet to go along with that assesment. Most articles are Friday's news, so not sure. I did read a Friday article where Padres GM Towers saying if it takes more than a day or two for Fukudome to decide, they will drop out of it and focus on Camereron because the Reds want to move Hamilton and sign Cameron. It says Cameron really likes Dusty and wants to play for him. So I guess Towers wants to lock him up soon, since he said they can't sign both outfielders.

Maybe Aki didn't even know the Rangers were after Fukudome. I hadn't heard they were in it until a few days ago, and if I remember right the article with the quote came out last week. Not going to dig up the link, though...

that would be the stupidiest thing if fukudome went to the rangers

I want him to go to a team that plays in a domed stadium. That way we can rename it the fuk u dome.

And the most stupid comment of the year goes to a guy with a line as his name

CONGRATULATIONS

Well, now Fukudome has no choice, he has to play for a team in the states. From Japanball.com is a report from the Yumiuri Giants saying they have officially pulled out of the Fukudome "chase". They said they got word from the MLB's winter meetings, that the American clubs were offering more money than they could contend with. The report also claimed that it was between the Cubs and the Royals as to who would recieve his services. I just hope they don't know something medically that we do not.
