Odds and Ends: Cabrera, Blanton, Haren, Sabathia

Let's round 'em up.

Indians GM Mark Shapiro will soon get a contract extension offer for C.C. Sabathia approved by ownership. Then he'll put that in front of Sabathia's agent, with an eye on resolving the situation one way or another before Spring Training. Shapiro's model will not be Johan Santana's upcoming deal but rather Jake Peavy's three-year, $50MMish extension.

White Sox outfielders Ryan Sweeney and Brian Anderson might be on the fringe. The Marlins, if I recall correctly, once had interest in Anderson as a center field option.

Miguel Cabrera is out to prove he's a good athlete and can stay at third base - he's beginning a rigorous workout program like nothing he's ever done before.

The D'Backs could pursue Joe Blanton or Dan Haren, while the Yankees may turn to Haren if they fail to acquire Johan.

The Yankees are receiving a lot of interest in The Farnz, according to Brian Cashman.

Anderson is a gone goose, as Hawk Harrelson would say, but Sweeney isn't going to be sold low. He might be the left handed Alex Rios for all intents and purposes.

ummm according to the yanks and hank, they have failed to acquire Santana, that "deadline" has all but passed

Yeah...good to see ol' lardo dropping the cake. This reminds me of that Family Guy episode where Peter hangs a Twinkie off Chris' hat and then putting him on a treadmill. Maybe Shaq can start an athletes fat camp and include himself and Miggy.

now the yanks will have to pay the athletics kings ransom to acquire Haren or Blanton. Cashman must be ready to quit due to Hanks stupidly oversized mouth that he cant keep shut. first season as king of the world he over pays 3 players, will have tampering charges brought against him, most likely (if he keeps his word THIS time) blown his chance to get Santana and have to go to Oakland and put his triple A team on the table

I'm sure the Yankees "deadline" is about as firm as their stance to no negotiate with ARod if he opts out. Hank and Cash may have lost some credibility when it comes to these "hard line" stances.

...Beginning? He's just beginning it??? What the heck was the story two weeks ago about if he is just beginning?????

Glad this guy takes his job so seriously that it only took 5 years, countless fat jokes and teams being in the middle of trying to trade for him to “begin” to work out…

3 years / 50 million would be a good deal for Sabathia and Tribe. It would be great to see him locked up through 2011.

As a sox fan i dont understand why we dont try to sign more pitching say a 4 and 5th starter and a relief pitcher, then go after one of the outfielders- rowand , a.jones, coco, taveras
