| Thoughts On Hanley's Deal »

And for my first trick: My very first Odds and Ends.
- The Toronto Star's aptly named Blue Jays blog reports the team placed Vernon Wells on the 15-day DL, and they expect him to be out six to eight weeks after fracturing his left wrist during Friday night's game. The Jay's also placed reliever Jeremy Accardo on the 15-day DL with a strained right forearm. As replacements, the Jays will call up infielder Joe Inglett and veteran hurler Armando Benitez. With Wells out, do the Jays re-enter the Barry Bonds speculation market?
- David Wells in Pinstripes? No deal says Joe Girardi. Wells did look comfy during a recent appearance on the not-aptly-called Best Damn Sports Show Period.
- Mets manager Willie Randolph had penciled slugger Carlos Delgado in the seventh spot before Friday's game against the Reds (postponed due to rain), marking the lowest spot he's been slotted at in 12 years. Delgado didn't see it as a demotion, but still, in light of the recent talk about his release, it raises eyebrows. For the record, Delgado is 6-20 in the last six games, with two doubles, a home run, and four RBI.

Now JP has another year to hide behind the injury excuse as to why his team can't compete in the AL East.

Vernon Wells is looking less and less look a good long-term signing.
I just reviewed his contract structure and all I can say is wow. Here is what Toronto has to look forward to:
2010: $21m
2011: $23m
2012: $21m
2013: $21m
2014: $21m
That's a 5/$106m contract right there covering years 31-35. For a guy who has really stood out with his glove I have a feeling that this deal is going to look real bad before its over.
He's posted OPS's of 783 and 706 in 2 of the 3 last years and is off to a mediocre sub 800 OPS this year.
Just noticed that he has a full NTC as well.

I'm no fan of Barroid Bonds but the Blue Jays need serious help at DH. If they don't make a good effort to sign him they ought to be ashamed of themselves.

But Wells coming into today was leading the BJays in B.Ave, R, HR, RBI, Total Bases and OPS.
But that might just show how bad their offense is.

That shot at BDSSP was random and weak. Tim, please get the interns to stop editorializing.

Ummm, The Dbacks, BWebb and Haren are all tagged at the bottom and aren't mentioned at all in the article. Am I missing something?

Ricciardi stated categorically that the Jays will not sign Bonds. He did this this past Wednesday on the post-game call-in show.
That was before Wells' injury, but I think there is zero chance that this will change things.
Though he will not come out and say it, I sense that his hands are tied by ownership on this issue.
