« Week In Review | Main | Cubs Pursuing Harden In Wake Of Sabathia Deal »

Brewers Close To Acquiring C.C. Sabathia

10:11pm: Haudricourt has names.  He says the Indians are getting LaPorta, Zach Jackson, Rob Bryson, and maybe Taylor Green.  Green could end up in the deal as a player to be named later.

Also, Rosenthal has commentary on the deal, explaining that "in baseball's new-world order, prospects are power."  The ability to draft brilliantly could trump payroll as a competitive advantage.

7:59pm: ESPN's Buster Olney chimes in, citing sources that say the teams have agreed in principle to a deal.  Sabathia himself sent a text message to ESPN's Amy Nelson implying the same.  All signs point to Sabathia making his Brewers debut on Tuesday, with an official trade announcement tomorrow.

By the way, Yahoo's Jeff Passan has sources saying LaPorta and Green are in the deal.

6:29pm: MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince talked to Indians GM Mark Shapiro, who said "it is definitely not a done deal."  We don't know whether that comment refers to the standard physical, or something more.  Meanwhile, Scott Miller says the deal is all but done.

6:05pm: Haudricourt says the Indians and Brewers have reached an agreement on a Sabathia trade.  The Brewers will send LaPorta and two lower level minor leaguers to Cleveland for the southpaw ace.

5:53pm: Haudricourt checks back in, stating that a deal is nearly complete. The Brewers will send LaPorta and two other minor leaguers in exchange for Sabathia. One of them could likely be Class A third baseman Taylor Green, but the other will not be Lorenzo Cain, Mat Gamel, or Alcides Escobar. Cain has been promoted to Class AA Huntsville, likely to take LaPorta's place on the roster.

The Brewers are insisting that the deal be closed tonight, in order to allow Sabathia to arrive in Milwaukee in time to make his next scheduled start on Tuesday.

5:41pm: LaPorta is absent from tonight's game in AA Huntsville; Alcides Escobar is not. Definitely a sign that LaPorta could be on the move and a deal is getting closer to completion.

4:50pm: Tom Haudricourt tells us that the Brewers and Indians are still in "heavy negotiations." Haudricourt notes that with the Indians having a day off tomorrow, it makes an ideal time for a press conference to announce a big move. Additionally, he reiterates that the Brewers should try to get the deal done in time to have Sabathia make his next scheduled start in a Brewers uniform.

3:54pm: Jon Heyman weighs in on the impending Sabathia deal, stating that the Indians have been trying to pry top shortstop prospect Alcides Escobar away from the Brewers as well. Heyman re-affirms that the Brewers would like a deal complete as soon as possible, in order to get two starts from Sabathia - one Tuesday and one Sunday - before the All-Star Break.

No mention of the unconfirmed report of the deal being completed from Heyman just yet.

3:15pm: Anthony Castrovince from MLB.com takes Rosenthal's rumor one step further, citing a "Major League source," that says a trade with the Brewers and Indians for C.C. Sabathia has been "completed." If correct, the trade is indeed centered around Double-A outfielder Matt LaPorta, though the other two prospects are not yet named.

Further updates as soon as they are available.

1:58pm: Ken Rosenthal writes that the Dodgers are officially out of the C.C. Sabathia sweepstakes, meaning that the Brewers could be extremely close to securing a deal to bring the 2007 American League Cy Young Award winner to Milwaukee.

Rosenthal says that the Rays and Phillies are still in the race, but are also likely unable to top the Brewers' offer, centered around Class AA outfielder Matt LaPorta. Rosenthal points out the Indians' strong need for power in the future and LaPorta's 20 HR and 66 RBI in AA Huntsville. According to Rosenthal, Cleveland will also receive two more prospects from Milwaukee in the current offer. Taylor Green and Lorenzo Cain were mentioned previously on MLBTR.

HAHAHA it could happen...then all the brewers fans will get mad and all the cubs fans will b celebrating ANOTHER NLC championship. Oh yea the cubs have scored 475 runs.

For all you Cubs haters here, you've really set up a straw man on this site. I haven't seen or read a Cubs fan here who thought the Cubs could field a better offer for Sabathia. Or that Rich Harden could be had for the spare parts on the Cubs farm. Don't let for fiery hatred of the Cubs make you read things that don't exist.
That being said, I think Aaron Cook should be the focus of the Cubs attention. I think I read on this site before that O'Dowd had no intention of parting with Cook, but that is typical GM speak. I really think Cook could be had for what the Cubs can offer. He's no Sabathia, but he would be an excellent #2 behind Zambrano. Plus a real sinkerballer (not named Marquis) at Wrigley is long overdue.

I don't know if the they would deal in the same division, but knowing that Harang is available should be tempting for teams. He flies under the big names radar, but he's nasty. A good quality arm...I'd take him in a heartbeat

C.C. Sabathia is fat.

It amazes me how much people don't understand things. LaPorta is blocked at every position he is possible of playing by Fielder, Braun and Hart. His purpose is as a trade chip, hence why he is the perfect headliner for a deal such as this.

yea but Dusty would want ALL THE TOP PROSPECTS! Cook is an ace but i dont think the Cubs will get him. They need somebody but NOT from San Diego Padres.

CC is fat. Better hope that CC will hit homers all the time. Also Prince is a big boy too. Might not be the best team but for sure will be the BIGGEST

Dusty does get hot and bothered over anyone named Patterson, so there's prospect #1. Go out and sign and trade Neifi Perez and Jose Macias and throw in a box of toothpicks and some wristbands and Dusty would be drooling, dude.

The Reds can keep Harang.

Who cares what Dusty wants? Dusty isn't the GM. Plus, no GM trades either their number #1 or #2 starter, whichever Harang might be considered, within the division. Especially when Harang is signed for such an affordable salary.

I think we all know that, Natural, but it's always fun to rip on Dusty. I'm sure the Reds feel they are a year away from contention and are not about to trade away their only reliable pitcher who's not under the age of 16, especially to a division rival.

I'm a Reds fan and I hate Dusty more than anyone. I wasn't referring to your comment, but to "cubs land"s above you. And I'd put Volquez in that reliable category along with Harang wouldn't you? :-)

As a Cubs fan, I have to say congrats to the Brewers fans here, you got a good pitcher. I can't wish you luck though...

Gonna be a fun race this year in the central. I can't wait to see if Hendry comes back with anything and what the Cards do, being as close as they are as well. Seems to me they should be packaging Duncan and Brian Anderson in a trade to see if they can get a real middle infielder.

J-Money,
I will bet the last part of your name that GMs trade their aces and #2 guys. Harden and Blanton from Oakland are both on the block. CC just got traded today he was the the ace of the tribe. So I don't know where your comin from where GMs don't trade their 2 best pitchers. Lets just hope that Cubs do trade for Harden from Oakland in a deal that will not include Gallagher.

I know if Forlife61 sees this he's going to comment back to what I said and make me look dumb because thats what he tried to do last time.

Anyone know a deal without Gallagher that would land the Cubs Harden?

i am not sure about a deal, but i hope pie is in it. I wouldnt be to sad to see Eric Patterson heading out too. Murton it could be your time to go somewhere where you will play. I hope they just keep Gallagher and Marshall

God I hate Cubs fans. I guess ignorance really is bliss.

If its true what Haudricourt is reporting, the brewers got an absolute STEAL. Zach Jackson had no place in milwaukee, and Rob Bryson isnt good. If we can keep Taylor Green, I will be THRILLED.

Why do you hate cubs fans? Trust me when i go to a cubs/brewers game the brewers fans make themselves look like IDIOTS. TheNatural answer why you hate cubs fans?

"As a Cubs fan, I have to say congrats to the Brewers fans here, you got a good pitcher. I can't wish you luck though...

Gonna be a fun race this year in the central. I can't wait to see if Hendry comes back with anything and what the Cards do, being as close as they are as well. Seems to me they should be packaging Duncan and Brian Anderson in a trade to see if they can get a real middle infielder."

Finally, a voice of reason.

"I know if Forlife61 sees this he's going to comment back to what I said and make me look dumb because thats what he tried to do last time."

Trust me guy, you dont need me to make you look silly...you do a fine enough job on your own. What no Rich Hill, Colvin, Cedeno for Harden yet?

" What no Rich Hill, Colvin, Cedeno for Harden yet?"
Must not forlife61. You got your guy so be happy. But dont be to happy again all you have is the WC...face it the cubs are good

who ever said that they Cubs will choke cuz they cant win on the road i have to say this, you are stupid. Cubs have one less win on the raod than the brewers. Brewers are 21-26 and the cubs are 20-26. Who ever said that you are so stupid. Must be a brewers fan.

Glover28 You made yourself sound stupid when you said the cubs are going to choke because they cant win on the road. Buddy brewers are 21-26 and the cubs are 20-26. Your stupid, must be a brewers fan, who knew? Stupid

Ok Brewers lose 2 pitchers next season, and they will both be Type A free agents, which means I believe they get 4 highish picks i next years draft? On top of their picks they already have, pretty nice way to restock the system. Someone mentioned AJ as well? Hey maybe add acouple more big picks possibly. 8 picks or so in the first 2 rounds anyone?

Knowing Jim Hendry instead of going after A.J. Burnet he is going to overpay for a guy like Randy Wolf who has had an awful season this year.

Also does anyone know of any other available starters other than those two?

I heard that Matt Murton could get traded to the Rays, Andy Sonastine maybe? (not enough for Rays?) They should do a 3 team deal involving the Cubs, Rockies, and Rays.

Just a thought on top of that you make your playoff run this year. In the offseason you lose 3 pitchers, get 8 toop picks total "maybe" and trade Prince to someone like the yanks and try to get a Hughes and Kennedy type package. Then put Gamel at 1st, which gives you a young very high upside team. And also loads of cap space for some other possible changes.

cubs land, shut the hell up. You are the definition of a snot nosed arrogant cub fan. You are simply trying to start an argument to hide your own insecurities, you are worried. The cubs magical season may be spiraling down the drain because the brewers got CC. All we can do is wait and see. Shut the hell up, and get a life.

Actually at this point I'd say both are going to make the playoffs. West is a mess, East teams all have too many holes. NL pennant series Cubs vs Brewers?

glover28, you made a comment about the Cubs saying the Cubs are goin to choke on the road. Cubs land was just proving you wrong as in no Brewer fan should be talking about the Cubs on the road because they are about the same. Next time be sure you know what what your talking about before you say it. I've done it before to ask forlife61 he pretty much sinks anyones battleship when he thinks their not right.

sure whatever, dude i was fighting with like every cubs fan in this blog before, and i stopped, but that stupid dumbass cubs land keeps going and going like a stupid bitch. If that kid keeps his mouth shut ill stop ripping on the cubs.

Dev0, there's no salary cap in baseball. And in your scenario, how are the Brewers getting Burnett if they keep Gamel? With Escobar?

"NL pennant series Cubs vs Brewers?"

Now that's one heck of a series.

Glover28 is upset cuz somebody caught him while he was trying to make some off point. Sucks and yes i think it will be a cubs/brewers series. I am not goign to keep mouth shut. Its a free world and i can do whatever i want. THanks tho! Your the one getting upset maybe you jsut know im right. I can talk for many cubs fans as we are not that worrries

please do not cuss in this chat. There might be little kids in here. There really is no need for that...agree?

Escobar or Hardy, Also I know there is no Salary cap, but this free's up money to hand out more long term contracts or bring in some other stuff via Free agency.

However I see the Brewers more then likely wanting to deal Weeks for something, and maybe Move Hardy or Escobar to 2nd?

CC sucked against the Cubs anyway. Did you see his stats on ESPN he had a win against every NLC team except the Cubs. He was 0-1 with a 34. something ERA. I'm not saying CC is bad. (just maybe an off day)but yeah we're really worried. I do think their will be good pitching match upd though.

Can you imagine
Carlos Zambrano and CC Sabathia

Ryan Dempster and Ben Sheets

Ted Lilly and Manny Parra

Sean Gallagher and Yovani Gallardo- even though he's on DL

Jeff Suppan and Jason Marquis

Hopefully cubs can land a Rich Harden or AJ Burnett to make a better pitching match up.

Cubbies2008,
Not sure why you are attacking me, a fellow Cubs fan. I'm assuming that since the A's are 6 games above .500 and 6 back in the AL West as well as only 3.5 out in the wildcard that Billy Beane isn't planning on trading his pitchers. Plus Beane has a history of ludicrous demands for his players. If your statement is true, is Carmona next up on the Indians trading block? All I was saying is that Aaron Cook could come a little cheaper and provide similar production as Harden with less injury risk.

Also, Blanton is the #2 on the A's?? His 5-11 record with a 4.76 era belies that statement. In fact, you could probably make a case that Duchscherer is more valuable right now than Harden. I think I'd take Eveland and Smith too before I'd take Blanton.

Not sure what the point of your response was, but please fill me in.

Cubs/Cardinals rivalry or Cubs/Brewers rivalry?
Looking at the myriad of relentless comments back and forth here, I just might have to go Cubs/Brewers. Let the border battle begin! Miller Park South or Wrigley Field North?

congrats to brewer fans for getting cc ... with that being said im ready for it to be over now all you have heard over the last month or so is cc this and cc that now hopefully this ends all the cc talk and other trades can happen and get some publicity

This is a better rivalry then Cus/cards by far now. Plus how close the two towns are..priceless FUN!

Does anyone else think C.C. could be flipped for Major League talent in a few weeks? They won't resign him anyway.

On a somewhat tangential note, I'm tired of people who question the Cubs supposed weakness that is their inability to win on the road. A team you may have heard of called the Boston Red Sox, who happen to be the defending World Series champs (makes me sick to say that), are 21-29 on the road. Haven't heard anyone question their playoff worthiness or readiness. Just throwing that out there.

Why do Cubs fans feel the need to make this topic into Cubs chat?

Umm, because the Brewers have just acquired the Cy Young winner from last year and definitely one of the best pitchers in baseball and this will force the Cubs hand into acquiring a solid starting pitcher. If the Cubs intend to comfortably win the NL central, then the Sabathia trade has serious implications for them.

There's definitely a logical connection.

100% agree with J-money. The cubs needed a SP before this trade. But they would be okay if they didnt or if they traded for a Wolf or what not. But with this trade now the cubs need to get a big name that could be a ace or a #2. So i think the names are forced in from a Wolf to a Burnett, Harden, Cook, maybe even a Matt Cain. The Cubs need to get a big name now!

Man, Cubs fans are so annoying, lol. Never seen such bitter fans in my life. All the sudden no cubs fans wanted CC or wanted to give up the farm for him... I bet if we search the Cubs board we'll see a thousand posts from a week ago from fans willing to give up anything for him, lol.

Cubs prospects. LOL!

Cubs prospects. LOL!

Cubs land is right we need a big name starter. I perfer Cook, or Harden. Cubs have the prospects/ players to get it done. Those people are.....
Rich Hill
Sean Marshall
Jose Ceda*
Tony Thomas
Ronny Cedeno*
Matt Murton
Eric Patterson
Carlos Marmol*
Kevin Hart*
Josh Vitters*
Micah Hoffpauir
Tyler Colvin*
Chris Huseby
Sean Gallagher*
Felix Pie
Donnie Veal
Welington Castillo*
Josh Donaldson
Larry Suarez
Jeff Samardzija*
*- means I would have 2nd thoughts on trading that person.

Well, Sabathia is the reigning AL Cy Young. Who wouln't want him? Go ahead and check the boards. I bet you can't find an example of a Cubs fan who didn't want Sabathia or even one who thought the Cubs could put together a package that could top the Brewers' talent nonetheless fill any needs the Indians had. Cy Young winners don't often get traded mid-season and in a win-now year, it's worth selling your top talents to get him.

I don't understand your attack on Cubs fans, juiced. The Cubs fans wanted an awesome pitcher on their team, they didn't get him and now they're looking elsewhere...they're so stupid? Is that your point?

Can anyone else see a trade between LA and Mil? A Lowe for Hardy swap?

Lowe becomes the new closer and Torres moves to set-up maybe?

Cubbies2008...
The Cubs aren't trading Marmol. Everybody else on that list can go for a Rich Harden. Samardzija though, needs to stop being mentioned as a guy that could be traded. He has a NTC, and even if he didn't, he's making 2 mil/yr, which is a ton for a marginal pitching prospect at this point.
And why would you have 2nd thoughts of trading Wellington Castillo to get a starting pitcher? Geovany Soto isn't going anywhere, probably for the next decade.

la16
no because LA is in need of a pitcher, they wanted CC. j-money there are alot of packages the cubs can made, but i HOPE to god they dont trade marmol. J-money you see the Royals getting into talk again about Zack Greinke OR Gil Meche with the cubs? The royals had talks with the cubs last year, but will they explore again?

la16
news flash: the brewers got their guy and won't be making anymore trades period! hardy will remain a brewer through next year, at least. he ain't going to l.a. that's for sure. also, you really should check their pitching staff now. no need for lowe in the 'pen.

J-Money, like you said earlier, there are some non-Cub fans on this site who have set up a straw man that they continue to take down and rebuild after every Cub related post.

As far as this deal is concerned, any Cub fan knows this deal makes the Brewers better on paper. Whether it makes them better than the Cubs remains to be seen. The Brewers played well most of the season last year until their young team wilted under the pressure of a pennant race. This year they've made their comeback under the radar while everyone was watching the Cubs and Cardinals. The Sabathia deal will once again bring the spotlight on Milwaukee. In my opinion, this race will depend less on Sabathia and more on whether or not the rest of that team has grown and learned from the experience of last year. If the rest of the team folds again, Sabathia ain't gonna save them by himself. If they keep playing like they have the past month for the rest of the year, the Cubs will have their hands full.

Good job by the Brewers. Traded a blocked prospect, a raw high-end arm and some riff raff for the biggest difference-making SP available.

They have to be favorites for a WC spot now, although closer (and bullpen in general) still has to be a very big concern. Every other NL contender has its own concerns, though

how the hell can people think the brewers can win the WC now? You got a ONE pitcher. Your 3,4,5 starters are not good. You still have no chance. Aww look the cubs are going to get Harden. Good luck next year Brewers. Have to be a favorite for a WC spot? Dude they got CC not Chase Utley. Hey when you get off fantasy land let people know. THanks for the laugh this morning

I'm not even a Brewers fan jack***. Right now they are leading the WC and just added a Cy Young award winner who is currently pitching great, without touching their big league club. That makes them Wild Card favorites I'd say.

cubs land, you are th most ignorant cubs fan I have ever run in to. The brewers just added one of the top 5 pitchers in the game. We have the two best pitchers in the NL Central on our club, and we have an incredible offense. The brewers are not looking at the wild card. The brewers are winning the division, and going deep into the playoffs. Get over yourself, and stop kidding yourself.

"For all you Cubs haters here, you've really set up a straw man on this site. I haven't seen or read a Cubs fan here who thought the Cubs could field a better offer for Sabathia. Or that Rich Harden could be had for the spare parts on the Cubs farm."

Well, obviously you don't come by here to read much. Either that, or you just are not capable of reading. One or the other.

Cubs fans (again, not all of you) are so stupid. They act for months as if CC is already on the Cubs, and that the WS is theirs. Now Milwaukee lands him, and is almost definitely the new best team in the Central. And the Cub fans act as if they are glad this happened. It is hilarious. Even if CC does walk, Melvin can build more of a system in the first round next year with his 5 picks then the Cubs could build in 3 years. He will replace Laporta easily. The Brewers system will be even better this time next year then it was before Laporta was dealt.

Now since CC is gone, I see Cub fans throwing out other star pitchers (Cook, Hudson, Grienke, Harden) as if these other teams will just give away their star pitchers. It is just ridiculous.

cubs land is officially stupider and more biased then Baseball Guru. Jesus Christ. He just changes his mind every 5 minutes, First he says CC is a good pickup, then he says the brewers suck, then he says Prince and CC are fat, then he agrees they (CHC/MIL) will meet in the NLCS, then he says the (MIL) cant even win the WC. This guy is like a confused highschool girl that is jealous because the girl she hates just got asked to the prom by the guy she is in love with, so now she acts like she never liked him anyway and that other girl is just a big whore.

You're right, nrmax88. I'm completely illiterate. But please, humor my abject ignorance. Find me a post where a fellow moronic Cubs fan thought Sabathia could have been acquired for Felix Pie and Angel Guzman. Or that Harden could be had for Rich Hill straight up. I bet you come up empty. Sabathia would have been awesome to have on the Cubs, but it was never realistic. Sabathia was the best pitcher available via trade and the Brewers, who were serious contenders before Sabathia's acquisition, have now forced the Cubs to make a corresponding big move. Go back in these posts and show off those spectacular reading comprehension skills. The Cubs fans here a naming alternatives, but not once has a Cubs fan suggested any of those alternatives will come cheap.

I know ad hominem attacks are fun, especially when your target is simpleton Cubs fans, but try to be honest. I did, however, enjoy your little prom queen analogy. That is definitely a way I would describe Cubs fans.

J-Money: see below

"how the hell can people think the brewers can win the WC now? You got a ONE pitcher. Your 3,4,5 starters are not good. You still have no chance. Aww look the cubs are going to get Harden. Good luck next year Brewers. Have to be a favorite for a WC spot? Dude they got CC not Chase Utley. Hey when you get off fantasy land let people know. THanks for the laugh this morning "

So in summary, the Brewers have one good starter with Sheets and CC, the Cubs will now get Harden, and the Wild Card leading Brewers are living in fantasy land if they think they are going to win the Wild Card.

In the Harden thread, a Cubs fan says that Harden will not be that hard for the Cubs to get because "the As need to make a trade much more than the Cubs"

wayne gomes,

I asked for evidence of a Cubs fan who thought the Cubs could field the best offer for Sabathia. If a Cubs fan thinks that Sabathia won't make a difference for the Brewers, then they are wrong. The Brewers were probably the frontrunner for the wildcard nevertheless the division without Sabathia. But that isn't the ridiculous trade proposal that I asked for. As for Harden, he was saying that he believes Harden may not be as pricey as we all think, which probably isn't true given past hauls by Beane for players like Kotsay and Haren. He never posted a ridiculous offer, however, that no GM, even on their worst day, would pull the trigger on.

But thanks for being a little more civil than nrmax.

I haven't seen as many Cubs trade proposals for Harden as I did for CC, Holliday etc. From reading the comments on this site over the past few weeks though, I almost get the impression like Murton, Pie and Veal could land any player in the big leagues now.

Here's another gem from the Harden thread:

"I was listening to ESPN radio and they said that Jim Hendry and Billy Beane are good friends and love making trades together. Maybe he won't make us overpay."

Anyway, you shouldn't feel like you need to defend your fellow fans. I definitely do not defend the intellect/rationality of all Phillies fans. Keep posting, maybe you will drown out the more irritating Cubs fans

“For all you Cubs haters here, you've really set up a straw man on this site. I haven't seen or read a Cubs fan here who thought the Cubs could field a better offer for Sabathia. Or that Rich Harden could be had for the spare parts on the Cubs farm. Don't let for fiery hatred of the Cubs make you read things that don't exist.” (J-Money)

…Interesting post given in a “Brewers close…” thread. A thread with about 110 posts overall, and atleast 50% (or more) being Cubs fans despite that team not even being mentioned. So, it got the office here thinking ~ would be fun to compile a nice little tribute to that “straw man” and recap the way things have went this last week (yeah, sorry ~ only a bout a week included on these, we don’t have time for more right now). So we pulled up about 5 or 6 threads (many of which didn’t pertain to the Cubs at all to start) and compiled this little ditty which we would call:

*** The Straw-Man speaks, endlessly, and more often than not, incoherently ***

“Cubs don't believe they have enough to get him.” (Peter Gammons)

“Yes, CC will be a Cub, it is inevitable, you can't stop the Cubs train. Ronny Cedeno and Kevin Hart, that would be a great haul for the Indians.” (Johnny Rotten) “Cubs don't have enough? Huh? Felix Pie Ronny Cedeno Sean Gallagher Matt Murton Jose Ascanio Kevin Hart Rich Hill Eric Patterson Micah Hoffpauir Tyler Colvin Sam Fuld Josh Vitters Jason Marquis Just to mention a few. Are we really to believe that Hendry couldn't package up some number of the players to get Sabathia?” (vegasvic) “The Cubs do have enough.” (Joe)

“Cubs have very good players to offer, if they have to.” (Cubs World Champs please B4 I die) “They have Fuld, Murton, Gallagher, Marshall, Petrick, and Patterson that are all MLB ready for the tribe next season plus a host of other good prospects that may entice a team that is most likely going to be competitive while doing a minor rebuild.” (airassault101) “If they offer Gallagher, Vitters, Ceda, and Patterson, they could get it done.” (Joe) “Also untouchable- Micah Hoffpauir.” (EdmondsForMVP) “Oh, yeah. Micah Hoffpair can hit, too.” (Cubs World Champs please B4 I die)

“As always, the issue is not what teams *could* offer for Sabathia, it's what they *will* offer. Seems many here are ready to assume that packages headed by at least one elite prospect are going to be available to the Indians. I think this is a foolish thing to assume. The industry's changed, and the days of selling the farm for a 2-month rental are over.” (davearm) “If the Brewers offer Gamel and Escobar or Parra, though, then they get him. If the Rays offer Davis and Brignac, then the'll get him. If the Red Sox offer Lowrie, Bowdan, and another prospect, the'll get him. I don't see any of the situations likely. Which means the Cubs get their man.” (cubs4ever) “We all know that C.C will end up in a Cubs uniform by the end of the season!” (Lonestar09) “If the Cubs want CC, they'll get him. Period.” (Johnny Rotten)
“Vitters/Murton/Cedeno/Marshall easily gets Sabathia. That package is probably one of the best the Indians would hear for CC...” (cubs4ever) “I think that Gallagher, Pie, and Ceda should be plenty to get Harden or Sabathia.” (TheGrinch) “Josh Vitters could get it done for the Cubs I think. Maybe Jose Ceda also.” (ballerwhiteboy) “I think the Cubs should any of their young players who aren't named Vitters, Gallagher, Soto, or Marmol for CC or Harden.” (Aduncaroo) “Cubs give up something like Gallagher, Colvin, Howry, and Cedeno (sub veal, Ceda, or anyone else), and the Indians gave up CC.” (Aduncaroo) “Indian fans need to realize that their team sucks!!” (DerSchlachter) “We'll see what you have to say August 1st.” (Cubs World Champs please B4 I die)
“Yea get him!! Still won't help them catch the Cubs and the Cards.” (cubs land) “The acquistion of Sabathia will make the Brewers the odds-on favorite to win the Central. Just like the acquisition of Santana made the Mets the odds-on favorite to win the NL...Ooops.” (crunchy1) “I'm really not too worried about the Brewers getting CC, if that is indeed what happens.” (Johnny Rotten) “I'm happy to let the Brew Crew have him” (Aduncaroo) “the Cubs will offset any CC move.” (Cubs World Champs please B4 I die) “I don't care if they get him” (cubs4ever) “We'll just chase after Harden. :P” (cubs4ever) “You still have no chance” (cubs land) “C.C. loses to White Sox, giving up 4 HRs. We already have guys who can do that.” (Cubs World Champs please B4 I die) “what is bigger news: Brewers getting CC OR Soriano coming back?” (cubs land)

“Oh and by the way if the cubs dont get him by then he will still come to the cubs and stay long term after we win the WORLD SERIES!!!!!!” (Lonestar09) “Cubs will sign him to a mega-deal in the offseason and voila” (Johnny Rotten) “if CC is not going to east or west coast, nor back to Cleveland, he will sign with the Cubs, not Milwaukee!” (Cubs World Champs please B4 I die) “Why would ANYBODY want to be with the Brewers?” (cubs land)

“On another note, what is up with all this people bashing us Cub fans.” (ChiCubs12)

J-Money,

I think that should answer your question, and then some…

"That is definitely a way I would describe Cubs fans."

My prom queen analogy was only talking about one Cub fan.

As for the finding an example of a post where a Cub fan said they were the favorites for CC for their pile of scrubs, just check out the thread where, oh wait, just check any comments section of any story for the last 2 months. You cannot be serious. They are everywhere.

Please dont talk bad about me..thanks...i dont are what people say the Brewers wont win the division and will have to beat the Cards to even get in the playoffs!

“Please dont talk bad about me..thanks...i dont are what people say the Brewers wont win the division and will have to beat the Cards to even get in the playoffs!”

…Hahaha, so a guy walks into someone elses city (a city he was never asked to be a part of), opens fire on anything and everything he sees with no discernable motivation other than being completely out of his mind and swallowed by his own personal issues ~ but says “please don’t shoot back” when people return fire? Oh, and to top it all off, he says it directly before firing off more shots?

Wow… Someone contact Websters; Ignorance has a new name which needs to be added to the books…

"J-Money,

I think that should answer your question, and then some…"

Fine work Darky, but you missed some other doozies;

"They also have Pie, Colvin, Veal, Cedeno, Hoffpauir, and Donaldson that they can offer in place of someone. You may hate it, but the Cubs have a good chance.

Posted by: Joe | June 21, 2008 at 10:43 AM "

"The indians are not that deep in pitching in the minor league level so what about Hill, Marquis, Cedeno, Murton they do have alot of players on the DL and could use them.
Posted by: ARamornot | June 21, 2008 at 07:56 PM "

"But it's possible that there could be more high profile and major league ready players that the Indians would want, like Tyler Colvin, Josh Donaldson, Jake Fox, etc...
Posted by: baseball52 | June 21, 2008 at 08:14 PM

"Also, I was listening to ESPN radio 1000 and they said the Cubs getting C.C. are pretty good.
They also said you could expect (if they do get involved with trade talks about C.C.) that Hill would be #1 to be in the offer along with others.

J-money just come clean you really dont come to this site that much do you?

GO CUBBIES

Here's some Darkstar doozies:

1) Andy Marte is the next Brandon Phillips. He said it THIS year!

2) Choo is a top 50 prospect...THIS year!

3) Jay Payton would be the DEFENSIVE replacement for Felix Pie.

4) David Murphy is proven against lefties. This was said when he had all of 22 ABs last year. By the way, he's hitting .220 against them this year.

5) He once went on for hours about how great Jeremy Sowers is (ummm...7.53 ERA)

6) Said the Cubs have no one good enough to trade for Jhonny Peralta (ummm....298 OBP). Ok.

7)Said Scott Rolen would have a better year than Aramis Ramirez (last year)

8)Drafted Rich Hill on his fantasy baseball team.

9) Thought the Indians could get Brian Roberts with a package that included Marte, Choo, and Josh Barfield. And that that offer was far better than what the Cubs had. Yikes!

10) Called Bedard a #1 stud starter.

That's only a sample...
You gotta take Dark with a grain of salt. He's a little grandiose in a harmless posting sort of way. But... You can always count on a toadie like Forlife to be impressed.

Thank you for reminding me of these quotes, dark-the-12-yr-old-girl:

“the Cubs will offset any CC move.”

“We'll see what you have to say August 1st.”

"if CC is not going to east or west coast, nor back to Cleveland, he will sign with the Cubs, not Milwaukee!”

I stand by all 3, and everything else I say too. Aduncaroo could go find all the stupid things you say, but it really wouldn't be worth it, because there is TOO MUCH TO GO THROUGH. I can't believe you're still on this thread, I don't think more than 2 people even saw how hard you worked on that last post. Sorry, girlfriend! Better luck on future threads! Now change your tampon, jerk.

crunchy did it already! just a taste!

I'm with you Cubs World Champs... I stand by what I said as well. Sabathia is no more a guarantee than Santana supposedly was at the time of that deal. It's not knocking Sabathia or the Brewers, it's just the way it is. I'm sure Brewer fans are smart enough to know that this the acquisition doesn't guarantee anything...just as any Cub fan knows that the Sabathia acquisition makes the Brewers a better team on paper. We'll play it out and see what happens. Sorry to disappoint the Cub haters, but I'm not going to think the sky is falling just because the Brewers acquired a good pitcher. Good for them. Now let the best team win.

before the best team wins...wait and see what the Cubs do

before the best team wins..wait and see what the Cubs will do...deal?

Well we know that the best team won't be the Indians.

Hahaha ~ ok, I’ll humor the absolute ignorance of it for a second…

“1) Andy Marte is the next Brandon Phillips. He said it THIS year!”
…No, no I didn’t ~ said they didn’t want to watch him go elseware and become Marte…

“2) Choo is a top 50 prospect...THIS year!”
…No, no I didn’t ~ said he was a top-50 prospect the last time he was eligible… (actually, not sure I said top-50 ~ top-100 though. And I must say, I sure am embarrassed I said that with Choo’s line and all (.244/.364/.400, 104 OPS+)

“3) Jay Payton would be the DEFENSIVE replacement for Felix Pie.”
…hummm, said he would give him days off and be a late inning replacement… Come to find out though, he would have been the everyday starter as Pie went down to AAA to not hit…

“4) David Murphy is proven against lefties. This was said when he had all of 22 ABs last year. By the way, he's hitting .220 against them this year.”
…Huh? I can only go by scouting reports, and I read scouting reports which said he had thrived against Lefties. But I guess you were more correct when you said Murton was far and away the better option for the Rangers in the OF ~ I mean, all Murphy has done is go .271/.309/.453 (103 OPS+)… Tex sure is stupid for not instead wanting to play .250/.286/.300 (53 OPS+) Matt Murton instead…

5) He once went on for hours about how great Jeremy Sowers is (ummm...7.53 ERA)
…Ok really, where the F* do you even come up with this crap? I defended someone else you were trying to illogically attack ~ a person who said that he could be included in a package for Atkins. Now you try to throw it at me? What a tool man…

6) Said the Cubs have no one good enough to trade for Jhonny Peralta (ummm....298 OBP). Ok.
…Huh? The only Peralta conversation I have had with Cubs Homers is one in which I continually told those Cubs Homers that he isnt being traded so they shouldn’t bring his name up in every other thread.

7)Said Scott Rolen would have a better year than Aramis Ramirez (last year)
…Huh? This is that pitiful crap Adun obsesses over. Two years ago he wanted to make a conversation about Ramirez vs Rolen, I told him I would be fine with either going forward… He was insuring us a “breakout year” for Ramirez, things I pointed to were the declining SLG (now sitting at a decrease for the 5th straight year) and probable injury problems in the future (and he was hurt ~ playing only 132 on the year)

8)Drafted Rich Hill on his fantasy baseball team.
…No I didn’t, I inherited Rich Hill on a fantasy team. Whats the big deal about that? And how are you trying to bring up sh!t you obviously know nothing about? Are you that hard up to troll?

9) Thought the Indians could get Brian Roberts with a package that included Marte, Choo, and Josh Barfield. And that that offer was far better than what the Cubs had. Yikes!
… Funny, I made a point of never giving a package in that thread because I know you often try to bait people into arguments, twist their words then later troll them and try to throw things in their face ~ yet you are here now doing what? Interesting…

“10) Called Bedard a #1 stud starter.”
…Hahaha, what? I sure don’t remember such a thing ~ do remember saying I think he could be poised to break out, but don’t remember ever calling him a stud. Also remember telling some tool (most likely you I guess) that reaching the 200 IP mark doesn’t prove or disprove “Ace”, but what does that have to do with anything? Now he has proven himself a joke and you are brining it up because you don’t know what to say in the face of your being a complete and utter tool? Interesting…

“That's only a sample... You gotta take Dark with a grain of salt. He's a little grandiose in a harmless posting sort of way. But... You can always count on a toadie like Forlife to be impressed.”

…Oh, ok ~ a “sample” of things you made up or are trying to somehow twist into something it isnt despite there blatantly being nothing to it? Interesting… But if it somehow makes you feel like you are almost a man by saying crap that aint true in a pitiful attempt to try and put someone else down because they made Cubs-Trolls look like an ass ~ well, more power to you I guess…

dark~... ~ has ~ officially ~ lost ~ it ~ ~ now...~ ~ ~

That's some pretty serious backpedalling... but I guess I can't blame you for trying to distance yourself from those little gems. The point of that little exercise was that it's not just Cub fans who say ridiculous things on occassion. Considering that you have made some odd statements in the past, I found it amusing to read that you had swept in on your high horse again to take swipes at Cub fans and their comments.

I have to chime in here about at least one of his comments, that he keeps lying about now.

On the Ramirez vs. Rolen thing, he made the following statements:

1. Ramirez was just as big of a health risk as Rolen

2. He believed that going into the 2007 season, Rolen would be the better offensive player for the next 5 years. I kept proving him wrong on his ridiculous statments and kept asking him "Are you still saying you would rather have Rolen?" to which I finally got him to say he would take "either", but would never admit that Ramirez was the more valuable offensive player for the next 5 years. It was really pathetic...

" Choo is a top 50 prospect...THIS year!”
…No, no I didn’t

Yes, yes you did. You said that if they included him, they would be offering the O's multiple top 50 or 100 prospects, and counted him! He hasn't qualified in years, but that didn't matter to you.

Please don't lie. At least tell the truth about the comments that you make.

Crunchy1,

Yep, yep, yep ~ in an attempt by you to try and make Cubs fans look less like the mindless trolls that has made them the running joke of the board, you attempt to attack me with things I didn’t quite say and claim it to mean something. Oh, and when I say as much, I’m backpedaling… Got it man…

***sigh***

But anyway, on a semi-related note ~ Jessica Simpson gets too much flack and I think its time that we point out that onetime Albert Einstein thought that the Mets would win the 2002 WS; obviously Jessica Simpson isnt really a moron at all, Einstein is though... Is that about how it works?

Adun,

Hahaha ~ yeah, ok…

But I really don’t know whats funnier in that situation A) the fact that you never had the ability to grasp the fact that I never compared Rolen and Ramirez (Its not like I’m a Cards fan at all, WTF would I care about Rolen?) despite you endlessly trying to make the conversation into that for whatever obsessive reason you have, or B) the fact that you still try to twist it into whatever you want to be the case some two years later when you cant find a point… Thats quite amusing really….

And possibly best of all, its all you’ve really got. You get your panties in a twist today and the only thing you can ever do is try to bring up something you claim to be something else from 2 years ago. Anytime you look like an ass, you go into the same old tired rant. Not quite sure how youre looking like an ass once a week is somehow negated by you claiming something from 2 years ago, but your obsessive argument is always ‘cant find a point so bring up something from 2 years ago and claim it to be something else’… Like I’ve told you before, it’s a perfect example of the obsessed-ex syndrome ~ I would be flattered if it wasn’t so damn creepy!

Anyway, you going to keep coming back every half hour with something else you want to claim is somehow a point? Its your track record, so I imagine so…

Oh, and just wanted to finish off with one more thing ~ no matter how freakin stupid it is I might add to that obsessive claiming incorrect things you do. I mean, trying to bash me because I said Choo was a top-prospect the last time he was eligible? Or maybe it was because I said he was on a list of 15-20 guys that might be included in a package for someone? Shoot, he has produced similar to Murton, is lightyears better with the glove as a CFer (instead of a limited glove in LF) and is a year younger; but Cubs fans throwing Murtons name out there (couple with Marshall and Cedeno) for every megastar is perfectly correct and my including his name in a huge list of guys the O’s might take in a package is insaine… Got it!

Gotta love Cubs fans, just brilliant point after brilliant point as they try to talk about everything but the topic at hand in a thread that never had anything to do with them to start in their attempt to prove themselves not to be trolls… ***sigh***

"Its not like I’m a Cards fan at all, WTF would I care about Rolen?"

Because you were doing what you always have done, get involved in a Cubs conversation trying to bash whomever the Cubs fan at the time was touting. Stop lying to try and make yourself look better. You said it, now own up to it!

You are obviously the one obsessed with the Cubs fans and getting involved in every Cubs thread and conversation. Look at the last year, and you are in about 90% of every Cubs thread talking trash. Who is the pathetic obsessed one? I think its obvious...

~~~*sigh*~~~
Spin it however you like but it doesn't change what you posted.
And by the way, did you just compare yourself to Einstein? Ahh, the grandiosity!
If you wanted to use Einstein as an analogy, by the way, it would have been better to point out how he felt he had made a colossal blunder by incorporating a cosmological constant into his theories. Putting aside all the obvious ones, one of the nearly infinite number of differences between you and Einstein is that Einstein could admit when he was wrong.
Alas, I have found darkstar's true identity. Darkstar is a girl! I knew it! Or possibly a pre-pubescent boy into girl comic characters.
This from Wikipedia:
"Darkstar (Laynia Petrovna) is a fictional character, a mutant superheroine in the Marvel Comics universe. She has been a member of various super-teams in her career and ultimately died as a member of the X-Corporation in New X-Men #130..."
There is also a picture of darkstar there.
And you can tell from his (her) increasingly ~ erratic... ~ posts... ~ sigh ~ that his (her) panties are super-extra tw!sted, as if he (she) feels ~ anything ~ down ~there...anyway.
Hahhaaahaha
how about those CUBBIES!!!!! 5 games out--OUCHY
