« Yankees Considering Sexson? | Main | Angels Enter Mix For Fuentes »
Eric Milton, remember him? The AP is reporting that he is set to rejoin the Yankees after working out at the team's minor league complex. The 33 year-old lefty had Tommy John surgery in June of last year. He's said to be six weeks away from pitching in games, and the Yankees have 2009 in mind as well.
Milton was a top prospect in the Yankees' system back in the late nineties before being traded to the Twins in the Chuck Knoblauch deal. He never pitched above Double A in the Yankee organization.

Milton made himself a lot of money on his promise while performing like a 5th starter. It is interesting how some of these guys who have no need for the money just want to keep going. Hopefully, for Milton's sake, he ends up making a comeback like Chan Ho Park has this year.

his first start should be at yankee stadium and they should do a free glove give away to the fans so they can have a chance to catch the 500 homeruns he will give up

Manny and his 1.651 career OPS against Eric Milton just got a 50/50.

Eh, it's a minor league deal, he's highly unlikely to play this year, it's minor league depth and at best a left handed reliever for next year, I don't think Manny will see him at all.

Talk about how the mighty have fallen. The team with a $200m payroll is too scared to give up any of their prospects for a decent SP, even though a decent pitcher would likely be the difference between the WC and staying home this October. Cashman had a good run but he's obviously too gun shy and out of ideas. Maybe he'll be re-energized in Seattle next season.

Cashman and the Yankees just fell in love with prospects like so many on here also have.

I think Cashman has been castrated by Steinbrenner, metaphorically that is. Steinbrenner (Hank this time) continues to meddle in the day to day baseball operations of the team, when he should let his GM do the GMing!

Um... no.
They aren't a good pitcher away from the playoffs.
I don't know if you've been -watching- them play, but the OFFENSE is the problem, not the pitching.
In July, they've lost games 3-2, 6-4, 4-2, 5-0.
That's not a 'good pitcher away from the WC'.

Yea, like V said, the Yanks issue is hitting with RISP. All the numbers are flawed from blowouts and stuff but on a day to day basis, they never get the job done. Their rotation has been pretty decent. Joba is doing great, Pettite is doing all right except a few games, Moose has been much better, and Ponson, Rasner, and whoever else pitches has done a tolerable job for the most part. The bullpen has been quite strong. The offense is just inconsistent. It doesn't matter who pitches. Moose pitches and only gives up two runs but Maholm shuts the Yanks down. I don't even know what kind of hitter they need. They have hitters, it is just they never hit when it matters.

What? Why would the Yankees want another cheap pitcher like Ponson. This is one of the dombest ideas for the yankees to make. The Yankees need to aquire a young gun like Roy Oswalt. Sure they would need to give up some prospects but that kind of deal would surely be worth it. If the yankees go out and trade for Joe Blanton and Roy Oswalt then all of New York will smell the world series coming back to the bronx. Because it is all ready bad enough the yankees missed out on sabathia and harden they need to aquire one or two great pitchers.

i find it funny how this guy managed to spell dUmbest wrong and than claims the yankees are making dUmb moves

It seems like there's widespread panic about the move across the interweb. It's a minor league deal, who cares? He's not going to pitch this year because of TJ, and if he sucks next year they'll cut him. What do they have to lose?

Oh god here we go again with the Yankees trying to be that 2000 World Series team. They should really stop focusing on all these washed up players. I wonder how this will truly play out this time, seeing as how Milton as of Friday is on their AAA team. I give him two starts. Too much Cincinnati Red left in him to become better.
