« Odds and Ends: Jacobs, Howard, Renteria | Main | Type A/B Free Agents »
According to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy, the Brewers will submit a formal contract offer to C.C. Sabathia today. Ken Rosenthal heard Wednesday that the offer might be in the four-year, $100MM range. Brewers GM Doug Melvin doesn't expect to hear back from Sabathia's agent (Greg Genske) soon, but notes that Sabathia should only have a handful of serious suitors.
Melvin will also submit an offer soon for Ben Sheets. He'll further discuss the possibility with Casey Close at next week's GM meetings. Sheets and Sabathia are Type A free agents, so the Brewers could net four draft picks if they leave. In that case I'd expect them to pursue another starter.
Lefty reliever Brian Shouse prefers Milwaukee, but the 40 year-old hopes for a two-year deal.

^^ totally agree! I think they should trade JJ or PF for a pitcher (Cain) and take the 4 draft picks!

Thats true. At least they get 4 draft picks.

Let's asumme the Brewers offer 4/100
and Yankees offer "Santana-money" (about 22mil/yr) 6/140 or 7/160
It's not like we are talking about 5-10 million more...
Why on earth would CC not go for at least 30 million (possibly 60 mil) more guaranteed money...
That just won't happen...

I am thinking maybe they might get Sheets back if the money is right. I think his DL time is a situation where some teams might stay away.
any thoughts?

"I am thinking maybe they might get Sheets back if the money is right. I think his DL time is a situation where some teams might stay away."
Brewers should steer clear of Sheets. He's a great pitcher and all, but that is the kind of long term contract that can potentially cripple a franchise.

4/100 is nothing to sneeze at. It may make senese to take the higher salary then hit FA in 4 years....

4/100 is garabge compared to what Johan Santana got and Sabathia is just a valuable as Santana...It's a least worth trying for the Brewers to resign him,but it ain't happening.

Type Key sucks
"Sheets is gonna have a hard time getting what hr wants unless brewers don't offer arb. No one is gonna give up a #1 pick for 1 yr. of Sheets so that he can prove he's healthy and for that same reason no one will give him the yrs. he's looking for"
Of course the Brewers will offer arb, and of course someone will give Sheets a contract. He probably won't get 5 years, but a Jason Schmidt-like deal is more probably, and I think most teams can be assured of better results.

if i were the brewers i wouldnt even want ben he's been to much of a health risk and last year when he was pretty much healthy the whole year he was only like 13-9 not a dominant #1 the brewers should be looking for some nice young talent like in a deal for prince; brad nelson i think could be able to hold his own
