« Rangers Not Pursuing Manny Ramirez | Main | Rangers Rumors: Manny, Sheets, Gagne, Young »
MLB.com's Adam McCalvy talked to Brewers GM Doug Melvin, who said:
"I expect to be a little more active, and I think you're more likely to get calls returned at this time of the year. I think this week will see a lot of stuff going on. Players start to get a little nervous after [New Year's Day] if they don't have a place to play."
Over 150 free agents remain unsigned, so it seems that a lot of the typical December action will be pushed to January. Keep it right here with MLBTR; we won't miss a beat.

I was thinking the exact same thing. This should be a pretty news-filled week. Yay.

This year's hot stove has been incredibly boring.

Who do you think will be the first trade or FA signing this week? I'm sayin Pat Burrell and to the Rays.
Posted by: Bravesfan10 | January 05, 2009 at 12:22 AM
i'm calling Derek Lowe to the Halos.... which kinda sucks in a way, cuz our offense makes me cry.

I think a lot of fans, my self ( white sox fan) included, are praying for an active week.

With 150 free agents there should be some signings, unless some players lower their price tag a few of them might not be playing in 2009. My guess is Dunn & Bradley will sign teams this week, Burrell and Manny and Lowe will get narrowed to very few suitors. Maybe Griffey will sign this coming week. I think Abreu,Giambi and a few middle of the road pitchers will get offers, but will be the last to get signed. I wish Petite and Lowe would sign with someone so there wont be endless rumors.

I think Adam Dunn inks with the Nats before the Rays ink anyone.

Bradley to the Cubbies first
Posted by: QuadBravesFan | January 05, 2009 at 12:45 AM
Beat me to it: Bradley/Cubs will be the first announced Monday.
Posted by: paxterj | January 05, 2009 at 01:09 AM
The Cubs should see if some idiot would take the Soriano contract.. and then Sign Dunn to play left, Bradley is not going to last a whole season, also crazed fans and Bradley do not mix. Then trade every thing you have for Peavy and Giles.
Way too PS3ish I guess.

No way, Lowe needs to stay in the NL and if he wanted to stay in the west he should take a two year contract from the Dodgers..
Reagins has enough pitching.
But still he should call Towers or Melvin and push hard for their 1st first baseman..
If Weaver is included for one of them I would then look at Lowe..
Weaver, Adenhart, Wood and a low level prospect.. for one of them could be a very good start and shouldn't/wouldn't require more

It would be nice if the cardinals pick up Kawkami.

Dave Obrien said the same thing in a small paragraph on Saturday. He pointed out that, at least on the braves end, that atlanta has not looked as inactive as they appear to be. HE says that the braves front office has made some phone calls to explore the trade market, and at the very least, there may be some rumors to surface this week.....kets hope instead its some actual moves.

Hopefully.. What a boring offseason this has been.

I was in Vegas during the winter meetings. On my way back home I was sitting in the airport listening to some baseball guys (don't know who they were, maybe scouts or something) but they were talking about Boras and the players.
One thing that stuck out was that most players want to get things done fast because they want to know what the heck is going be going on in their life.
The netioned that the end of the year was a big deadline. So it makes sense that the players will start to feel the heat and should become more flexible now giving the teams an advantage.

Depends on who we're trading with.
If its the Brewers for Fielder, I do Weaver + Walden for Fielder. Or, I do Fielder for Joe Saunders straight up.
If its the Padres for Peavy, I do Adenhart/Walden + Wood + Green + Conger for Peavy. Adrian Gonzalez is untouchable IMO, especially with new ownership. But trading for Peavy to make that rotation even better would be a good idea.
