« Manny Ramirez Rumors: Friday | Main | Giants Invite 16 To Big League Camp »
La Velle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune writes that the Minnesota Twins are not going after free-agent third baseman Joe Crede, despite an earlier report.
Neal believes that the Twins aren't interested because of Crede's balky back and its susceptibility while playing on turf in the Metrodome. Neal adds that the Twins do want to upgrade their third base options, but with a healthy player.
Neal writes that a healthy Crede would be an option, though he describes it as a longshot.

Easiest headline in the arsenal - just keep "Twins not in on ________" and fill in as needed.

I agree with the Twins on this one. While I would love to have Crede, back issues are very VERY difficult to diagnose and no matter how many doctors say he is ok there is no real way to verify. Its a bummer. Not much out there for the Twins. They screwed up not getting Willingham.

jhawk90.. funny thing is i was about to say that about the Orioles, or as we have become use to seeing, "Orioles are serious players in the ____ talks" just to be let down over and over as they sign with the Red Sox or Yankees..

Sure, they want to upgrade third base with a "healthy player"! Of course, they are also unwilling to sign any of they healthy players out there or trade for one - all the healthy players either want too much money (more than $3 million is now "too much money" for the Twins) or they are imperfect.
Pat Reusse had it right - Smith is too scared to make a move after all his deals last year went south on him.
And, Jim Pohlad who will now be signing the checks is even stingier than his dad! Twins fans will remember Carl Pohlad as a spendthrift in a few years compared to his son.
In fairness, Jim Pohlad is not a billionaire like his father; the Pohlad estate is being split among the three sons and the grandkids as well as some charities.

Good player when healthy. Not now. I see him back with Sox.
