I WISH you would do your homework BEFORE you post your opinions and/or commentary!
It has been well established in the press, by several writers, that the Cubs are not going to put ANY of these extra relievers through waivers!
They will either be traded or optioned!~

Ease off Brolight. Tim has had some 1st releases here before and does a nice job. Who knows what the Cubs are going to do? Did you forsee Marmol setting up Kevin Gregg?
Kind of surprised that Hammel is linked to Colorodo, that is a place see him struggling at, much like Marquis is doomed to with both having similar styles/stuff.

Isn't Gaudin out of options? No one will trade any quality for him. He won't pass through waivers, either (IMO). The Oakland A's would be foolish not to put a claim in for Gaudin.

BroLight,
Who would trade for Gaudin? Not only is he getting old, but he is not any good. I think Tim is right, Gaudin would clear waivers for the same reason nobody wants to trade for him: his contract is 2 MM and he stinks. No one wants to pay 2 MM for a crappy reliever.

BroLight-
The Cubs don't have a choice. They can't option him, and it's unlikely that anyone trades for him and his $2M salary.
As for Dexter Fowler, that's a guy that people need to watch out for, because I think he's got a decent shot at the NL Rookie of the Year, although Rasmus should make for some tough competition. Fowler's combination of power, speed and patience from a center fielder is quite impressive, he looks like a stud.

"Who would trade for Gaudin? Not only is he getting old, but he is not any good. "
Old? He's 26!! He's younger than Nick Blackburn and Glen Perkins.
Gaudin's not a game-changer, but there are a lot more pitchers older and less effective than Chad Gaudin making more than $2mill per. Not to mention, he used to be a starter, and a $2mill veteran starter is impossible to find.
No idea if his back is strong enough to handle 150IP, though...

I'll "ease off" when he deserves it, but of course he'll stop posting my stuff before then, because he can't stand the heat, just like he hides from my emails! He DOES do a fine job of consolidating and reporting baseball facts, which saves us all a lot of "surfing"; but his opinions and commentary are next to worthless, because he is severely lacking in baseball experience & insight, as well as life experience necessary to make his opinions worth noting.
As for Marmol vs Gregg? YES...I, the Cubs & THOUSANDS of others not only saw this coming, but are actually worried that Marmol may not be able to fulfill his role as a setup reliever. The fact is that he needs a reliable off-speed pitch to be effective for very long. Especially since his control of the fastball is spotty at best. If the WBC players can figure him out, like they did, MAJOR League hitters will soon be taking him the other way and sitting on his slider when he can't get the fastball over the plate with consistency.
"Isn't Gaudin out of options? No one will trade any quality for him."
He may or may not be out of options. At least one authority, if I can paraphrase, seemed to say that he was out of options from a practical sense, but not technically, whatever that means; but it really doesn't matter. The Cubs have stated that they are not going to expose ANY of these pitchers to the waiver process, and they don't have to! By the way, the Cubs do NOT care whether they get "quality" for him. They will be happy to just save part of the $2M.
"Who would trade for Gaudin? Not only is he getting old, but he is not any good. I think Tim is right, Gaudin would clear waivers for the same reason nobody wants to trade for him: his contract is 2 MM and he stinks"
Dear Twisted...Can you read? It is obvious that you did not comprehend what I originally wrote, and 26 is HARDLY old, which also calls your reading ability into question! The Rockies have shown interest in trading for Gaudin, as well as at least one team from the E. Coast (possibly the Cubs-East er..Orioles). It doesn't matter whether Tim thinks he will or won't clear waivers. He isn't going to be put through waivers. That had to be done by yesterday. This means he will be traded or they will keep him.
"The Cubs don't have a choice. They can't option him, and it's unlikely that anyone trades for him and his $2M salary."
They won't have to pay the full $2M to get him, and there is already interest from other clubs. The unexpected brilliance of Patton is forcing most of the moves. In the end, Fox will be sent back to Iowa on his minor league contract, Samardzija will be optioned to Iowa, and either Guzman or Gaudin will be traded and the other one will be kept! So you see the Cubs DO have "choices"!

Don't you think that other teams know exactly what you're talking about? Why would any team offer anything to the Cubs if they know that Guzman or Gaudin need to be traded? If I'm Billy Beane, I wait for the Cubs to "Release" Gaudin, and sign him to League Mininum.
Also, Stop acting like you know it all, when you don't know it all.

How omniscient of you to know what I know, how I know it, why I know it, how it applies, and why I know what I know.
It's patently obvious from YOUR statement that you wouldn't know a baseball from a roadapple!
Other teams, if there interest is real, and not just trolling for bargains, will have to make offers, as I said before, or risk not getting their guy or having to pay more than they otherwise would have because they would be competing with all teams having BOTH types of interest!

I always liked Chad Gaudin as a starter. He seemed to thrive there more than in the bullpen. I'd love to see him come back to the A's for cheap, especially with all the question marks in the rotation. I don't feel comfortable depending on the next big three (Cahill, Anderson, Mazzarro) to carry us through the season.
