Odds And Ends: Dodgers, Doumit, Pujols

More links for Friday evening...

  • Pedro Moura of the LA Daily News reports that the Dodgers have signed 23 of their draft picks.
  • ESPN.com's Rob Neyer says the Pirates should consider trading Ryan Doumit once he shows he's healthy.
  • The man who would make such a move possible, Pirates first rounder Tony Sanchez, will make his pro debut tomorrow, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
  • My take: Even though Sanchez receives praise for his polished game, he'll need some time to develop, so if the Pirates plan on having a winning season in the next couple years, holding onto Doumit makes sense.
  • ESPN.com's Tim Kurkjian polled 11 MLB players about their ultimate pitcher-hitter confrontation. All 11 chose Albert Pujols and seven chose Roy Halladay

If Doumit comes back and plays well he could draw a lot at winter meetings. When haelthy he's in the second tier of top offensive catchers.

5 Mets players polled and Santana didn't get a single vote. Guess this serves as my personal tie breaker in the Halladay vs Sanata debate for best active pitcher.

Santana.*

Tony Sanchez probably won't see the big league roster until 2011. I'd throw Doumit in right field and try to keep him healthy for all of 2010...build up his trade value, then move him in 2011 right before his option years.

Yeah I agree with Neyer, trade Doumit now while there's a need. Pirates fans will revolt a little to be sure, but it seems to be the smart baseball move.

No way we move Doumit. Forget about it.

No way we move McLouth. Forget about it.

If the deal is right, anyone is tradeable!

Pirates may revolt a little but if they do they're shooting themselves in the foot. Doumit isn't going to help them win anything the next few years, no matter how good he is. If they can get something for Doumit while he still has some value that WILL help them win in a few years they need to do it, no matter what the fans think. If Doumit, Wilson, McClouth, Bay ect... where so worth holding on to then you'd have thought the Pirates would have had a winning season lately. Pirates fans need to realize the position they're in and be realistic about the talent they have, or don't have, on their team.
