Marc Topkin of The St. Petersburg Times reports that the Rays have designated reliever Winston Abreu for assignment. He also notes that starter Andy Sonnanstine has been demoted to Triple-A Durham, and that Scott Kazmir and Chad Bradford were activated off the disabled list.
Abreu was tremendous in the minors earlier this year, striking out 49 and allowing just 24 baserunners in 32 IP. He appeared in only two games with the big league club after his call up two weeks ago.

Demoted for Chad Bradford?
Wow, I'm sure a lot of other teams wouldn't mind taking a chance on this guy.

Welcome to the Nationals' bullpen, Winston Abreu.

I was talking about Winston Abreu, not Chad Bradford. I know Bradford wasn't DFA'd, I never said anything suggesting that.

why on earth would they demot sonnanstine? hasn't he been very solid and consistent for them?

phoenix88 - Sonnanstine's been brutal. 6.61 ERA, 1.53 WHIP.

Sonny has a 9+ ERA on the road, has given up 16 runs, has yet to win on the road "Mr. Command" isn't doing so well with his command

I thought Sonnanstine had been put on the DL for whiplash.
Like the guy, though. Hope he gets everything straightened out.

sorry about that but who wants to pick up a reliver that hasnt shown any big league success that hasnt translated from AAA usually lefty's have a good chance sticking around in this league even if they are crap most pitching coaches think they can refine them to be the perfect LOOGY but righties like winston abreu are a dime a dozen
