I see Valverde fitting in quite nicely in Tampa Bay.

What about Hawkins/Valverde to Colorado trade?

The one year it'd make sense for them to be buyers.

"The one year it'd make sense for them to be buyers."
I was thinking the same thing, but still, even as buyers, they probably aren't making the playoffs. But yeah, it is certainly strange. This team has been a buyer in far more bleak situations then this one.

ed wade said that they won't be buyers, so expect them to acquire at least two players at the deadline.

Can't add salary. Simple as that.

I wonder where Pudge will go...

The reason is Drayton McLane. He is sick of missing the playoffs and knows that buying this deadline will set them back years. He finally has a GM that he trusts and Ed Wade has shown them the light.

If the Astros want to do anything this year, or the next few years, trading anyone isn't an option. The only ones of value to other teams are Valverde and Hawkins, but trading them away destroys the bullpen. Stay still at the deadline, and just wing it for the wildcard this year.

Hmmmm... Trust and Ed Wade don't seem to fit in the same sentence...
Set back and Ed Wade do...
I can remember the days of Ed Wade not understanding the value of a pitching staff...
At least, he hasn't traded Roy away for a couple of A ballers yet...
The deadline hasn't hit yet though...
By the way, we thank you for Brad Lidge Ed...

That trade is working out for both teams....thanks for Bourn....

Lidge helped the Phils win the World Series and for that reason the trade will always be a good one for the Phillies but he sucks again and Bourn is becoming the player Ed wanted.
5 years from now the Astros win that trade.

Jose Valverde makes sense for the Rays, Twins, or Yankees. Miguel Tejada would be a nice addition for the Twins or the Red Sox. But the Sox value defense and seem set to go with Lowrie and Nick Green.

As an Astros fan, I'd glad to see they won't be buying, but I'd love if they went a step further and tried to get a bit younger in the process--try to trade Valverde for a young SS and Miggy for a young reliever with closer potential.
I think if you sent Valverde to the Rays for Reid Brignac and Tejada to the Twins for Jose Mijares or Anthony Swarzak, the Astros could get a lot younger, cheaper, and not significantly hurt their playoff chances.
