Yankees Notes: Silva, Millwood, Colon, Felix

C.C. Sabathia starts for the Yankees tonight, which means the questions about their rotation can rest, if only for a day. Here's the latest on the Yankees, with an emphasis on their rotation…

  • According to Cashman, Carlos Silva, who was signed by the Yanks to a minor-league deal after he was released by the Cubs, hasn't been assigned to a minor-league club, writes Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com.  In fact, he hasn't even thrown to a hitter yet.
  • Yankees GM Brian Cashman told Marc Carig of the Star Ledger that he will review video of Kevin Millwood pitching in the minor leagues before deciding whether to promote the right-hander to the Major Leagues (Twitter link). Millwood can opt out of his contract with New York this Sunday.
  • Paul Swydan of FanGraphs identifies some warning signs on the horizon for the resurgent Bartolo Colon, but maintains that the right-hander could help the Yankees form a devastating rotation.
  • The Yankees can probably forget about acquiring the reigning Cy Young winner for now. Felix Hernandez told Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports that he’s happy playing for the Mariners and isn’t looking for a trade. A number of executives tell Morosi they expect King Felix to stay put this season, partly because he’s under team control through 2014.

Jon Paul Morosi does know that it’s not always what the player wants but sometimes what the team wants? If I remember right, Hernandez’s no-trade clause is limited.

  2. Heaven forbid Felix Hernandez didn’t make the news today! I was worried there wasn’t going to be an article about the unlikelyhood of him being traded this season!

don’t tell anyone, but I heard he’s going to the yankees.

Ok, we passed the “beating the dead horse” phase a while ago on the topic of Felix Hernandez and the yanks. We’re now into a “pulverizing bloody parts of horse into the ground.”

you’ll have to excuse my pal purple guys; he’s still working on the constructive criticism thing. let me clarify

we know you fellas like to add images to your posts sometimes. we like it too! so we all chipped in and got you one for your next batch of yankees-felix “rumors”

Hey, you try not being sarcastic after getting about 10 hours of sleep in the last week.

        • notsureifsrs 4 years ago

that does not make my top 5 excuses list

          this does

      • YanksFanSince78 4 years ago

        Visual images? Very nice.

  4. The Felix trade rumors should really stop, its kind of pathetic.

    • Reaper87 4 years ago

Unless you totally give up on this group of players and go 100% into firesale mode, there isn’t really a good reason to trade him until probably 2013. Once people admit this we will all be able to move on with our lives

      • mrsjohnmiltonrocks 4 years ago

Not only that, whether a club is contending or not, they still have to have someone pitch their games.

If they are planning to bring players from their farm system to the rotation, it’s not a bad idea to have a guy around you know will give you innings, a guy to lead the staff, a guy that knows the park and the league. Hernandez is still a very young veteran, and it says something to the rest of your organizations players that you keep your best guy around.

If someone makes you an offer you can’t refuse, you move him. If the rest of your starting pitching shakes out better than you expect, you move him. Unless those things happen, you keep him.

  5. It wouldnt be an MLB news day unless two things were mentioned:

    1) Felix Hernandez daily watch
    2) how terrible the yankees might be if a, b, c, x, y and z all went wrong at the same time…

Enough is enough with the hate for the yankees and the massive man love for the “King”…both subjects are growing painfully annoying now, and I’m a Yankees fan…

… and the fox took one last look at the grapes and walked away saying, “They’re probably sour, anyway.”

If the Mariners trade King Felix, they deserve to be contracted.

    This JUST in;

    Felix Hernandez still a Mariner

Yankees still do not have a Felix Hernandez

Every time I see the words “Yankees” and “Felix” in the same heading, all I think about is Captain Picard facepalming.

    • JacksTigers 4 years ago

And when reading your comment about Captain Picard, all I can think about is Captain Crunch. I guess it’s time for me to grab some dinner.

“i was seriously so drunk that day you guys”, cashman added. “i just haven’t really figured out what to do about it yet, ya know? it’s a bit awkward. but frankly, we think the no-pitching-to-hitters program is a pretty good one for him right now. another year or two of that and he could be the next bartolo colon”

Blah Blah Felix Blah blah Joba and Montero

  11. NYBravosFan10 4 years ago

Trust me, I’m absolutely SURROUNDED by yankee fans. They DO NOT want to hear that Felix is happy as a Mariner and refuse to believe it’s true. I have almost given up on telling people this news about King Felix. THEY DON’T LISTEN and continue to believe that Felix will be a Yankee at some time this year or in the offseason. I am not generalizing, I am not assuming, I am just going on what I know, being surrounded by cloud-minded Yankee fans. Not hating on any fan of the Yanks, just GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD!!!!!!

  12. GaryLe 4 years ago

I’ve never seen a non-story have this kind of legs. Felix to the Yankees was never even a rumor, just a hypothetical posed by a writer.

  13. JacksTigers 4 years ago

I know. I was just saying that because Morosi made it sound like he will not be traded at all.

  14. start_wearing_purple
    start_wearing_purple 4 years ago

I think you’re in a very small group of people who don’t want Felix Hernandez.

  15. RedSoxDynasty 4 years ago

Better than Felix? Might be the stupidest thing youve ever said and that’s really saying something.

  16. eneff 4 years ago

I can’t tell if he is being sarcastic or not…

  17. $3513744 4 years ago

We might have to create a category above those top five just for this one alone.

  18. JacksTigers 4 years ago

    Here’s your top 5 list:

1: When he said Colon is as good as Felix
2: When he said Garcia is as good as Felix
3: When he said Millwood is as good as Felix
4: When he said Silva is as good as Felix
5: When he said Prior is as good as Felix

Thanks for stopping by. The exit is at the top right corner of your screen. Have a nice day.

  22. Aw man… just when i wasn’t embarrassed to be a yankee fan.

    Not a chance.

Let’s be fair. Sarcasm on the internet is harder to figure out. Add in the percentage of serious comments on this site that can make the average fan cry…

  25. JacksTigers 4 years ago

Let’s put it this way. Start Wearing Purple has 2656 comments on MLBTR. Wonderboy Rooney has 725. I have 1105. You on the other hand have 167. So who’s the new guy here?

  26. 0bsessions 4 years ago

If anything, this is probably the most disappointing remark I’ve ever seen here. I was actually really enjoying the ambiguity.

  27. Thats a fail.

  28. Vmmercan 4 years ago

2656 is ridiculous. That’s what I got out of that

  29. JacksTigers 4 years ago

    How?

  30. East Coast Bias 4 years ago

It’s more about what the exorbitant cost would be, for me. I know I’m in the minority, but I’d rather hold on to the kids and see them develop. None of the pitchers will reach Felix’s ceiling, but that’s ok.

Just re-sign CC this off season and hope you can patch things together until Weaver and Cain hit free agency in 2013.

  31. A miniscule group

  32. JacksTigers 4 years ago

The record goes to notsureifsrs who has 4065.

  33. Vmmercan 4 years ago

Are you serious!? Holy cow. Do you people realize that’s 11 comments a day for a year straight……or a comment every single day for 11 years. That’s disturbing.

  34. East Coast Bias 4 years ago

I think Span may still have him beat.

  35. East Coast Bias 4 years ago

And more than double the likes. That’s hardcore!

  36. JacksTigers 4 years ago

I think he has only been around for 6 months or so, too. He wasn’t there when I first got blocked in September.

  37. 0bsessions 4 years ago

I don’t see that as all that outrageous. This site’s been around for a few years and notsure’s been around for ages, as I recall. Honestly, with how frequently he posts, I’m surprised it isn’t higher.

  38. notsureifsrs 4 years ago

1 comment per day would definitely be disturbing. go big or go home

  39. JacksTigers 4 years ago

You’re right. He has about 4500 comments.

  40. YanksFanSince78 4 years ago

    exactly.

  41. YanksFanSince78 4 years ago

    ummmmmm….joking right?

  42. JacksTigers 4 years ago

MLBTR is on the internet. If we are not new to MLBTR, how can we be new to the internet. That’s like saying your an expirenced driver who has never been in a car.

  43. 0bsessions 4 years ago

I think the point is more that it’s already well known that Jack Z doesn’t want to trade him. Considering the Greinke situation, one would then start asking the question of “well, the Mariners stink, what if Felix pushes for a trade?”

More or less, it’d been a couple of days since someone brought up Felix in regards to trades.

  44. 0bsessions 4 years ago

Maybe he was taking time off, but I’m almost certain he’s been around a lot longer than that.

  45. Jason Klinger 4 years ago

    You made my brain hurt.

  46. Obviously he’s not joking.

  47. MaineSox 4 years ago

Who knows how high that number would be if they counted comments that had been deleted, amirite?
