Reds Notes: Navarro, Young, Ankiel, Arredondo

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | January 16, 2012 at 10:02pm CDT

The Reds may have made all of their significant offseason moves now that they have agreed to terms with Dioner Navarro and Ryan Ludwick. Here are some details on the team via Tom Groeschen of the Cincinnati Enquirer:

  • GM Walt Jocketty said he signed Navarro “purely for depth” at Triple-A.
  • Jocketty doesn’t expect to sign Dmitri Young, the former Reds outfielder/first baseman who is looking to make a comeback at age 38 after losing 70 pounds. The Reds are looking to see what some of their younger players can do in Spring Training.
  • Before agreeing to terms with Ludwick, Jocketty said Rick Ankiel was in the mix for an outfield job with the club, according to Groeschen.
  • The Reds are “working on” a deal with Jose Arredondo, Jocketty said. The first-time arbitration eligible right-hander appears to be nearing a two-year contract with the club.

I think the Reds had already made all their significant moves prior to signing Navarro and Ludwick.

I wouldn’t mind bringing Young to camp

I’m so glad Ankiel did not sign with Cincinasty…hopefully he signs back in Washington but I do see Boston as a good fit too.

Cincinasty? You’re creative. CincinNATI is actually a pretty nice place. I think it ranked 3rd in top places to visit in the US this year in some highly touted travel top 10.

Really? It certainly isn’t a dump along the lines of a Cleveland, but I’d have to think Hawaii, Florida, and a ton of places in California would rate higher.

Dooode, cincicrappy is right up there with TIjuana, did you see the way their basketball teams gets down? Oh yeah, and how about that lovely relationship with the police…c-crap is a crap town…their airport is even in Kentucky so they can avoid the mess

Just nevermind. Don’t come to Cincinnati, we don’t want you here anyway. It’s obviously a prominent enough city to get you all riled up about it. If only you posted something baseball related with all this emotion behind it, we could have a decent conversation.

Fear not…I’ll be keeping my distance and If I ever am forced to get close will wear gloves, a mask, and a condom just in case that sweet cincy air is communicable.

I live in Indiana and visit Cinci 5+ times a year. It is a great city and has it spots to stay away from like every other city so stop with the hating on Cinci. You are from Chicago arn’t you? I am have been to that S-Hole before never going back either!

chances are you dont live in a place thats any nicer, so instead of spreading ignorance and hate to an entire city, how bout you just stick to baseball.

I didn’t choose the order. I was just restating it. I can’t say I would disagree, but it is a nice place to spend a weekend as a visitor.

Lol Cincinasty? Wow. You guys are the ones who signed all of our garbage a few years back… Remind me which city has more WS rings? DC or Cincinnati? Cincy is a pretty nice city. yeah we have a few bad neighborhoods, but you guys have politicians… so that might make DC worse.

I like the sigings today. Ledwick is a low cost guy that if he gains if form of a couple years ago with the Cards can really help out the lineup. I still would start Heisey!

Thanks it was a obvious typo. Difference being, spelling is lack of knowledge and typo is a slip of the finger. Thanks
