Padres To Sign Max Fried

The Padres will announce they've signed first round selection Max Fried, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports (Twitter link). Fried, a high school left-hander, will obtain $3MM, MLB's recommended bonus for the the seventh overall selection, according to Dan Hayes of the North County Times (on Twitter).

Fried has a fastball that's been clocked in the 88-95 mph range to go along with a plus curveball and a promising changeup, Baseball America reports. Lucas Giolito, the Nationals' first rounder, was a teammate of Fried's at Harvard-Westlake high school.

I became a fan of Hamels after his comments about the Padres and how we as fans are shafted by the lack of leadership.

How about the whole, lifetime Padres fan, even spent time on the ESPN Padres message board in high school….literally begged the team to draft him only to find them completely disinterested

Not getting drafted by the Padres was the best thing that ever happened to him.

Was away for the weekend, this is great news.  As long as this kid develops, the Padres should have agood one here.

our fan base is fair weather. the same people that couldn’t tell you our starting rotation in 2008 were the biggest fans in 2010. granted, you see a lot of this in sports but it seems to be much more prevelant among the friar “faithful”
