Yankees, Andrew Bailey Close To Deal

The Yankees are close to an agreement with Andrew Bailey, MLBTR's Tim Dierkes tweets.

Bailey, 29, had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder in July, and was not tendered a contract by the Red Sox this offseason. Nevertheless, more than 15 teams had called to check in with the reliever by early December, according to an MLBTR report. If the timetable we reported at that time holds, Bailey will be ready to suit up for a Major League club by mid-May.

A former All-Star closer with the Athletics, Bailey has struggled with injuries since his rookie season, and managed just 44 innings for Boston after he was acquired in a winter 2011 trade. However, he's been excellent when he's managed to stay on the mound, as his career 2.64 ERA attests to.

MLB deal would be a mistake, MLB spring training invite, 1M plus incentives if he makes the big club. Typical low-risk high reward guy. Hopefully I’m wrong, but who knows.

Best guess would be one of those minor league deals that comes with expiration dates if he isn’t with the big league club….

    More bullpen competition. Good.

This is a good sign for them. probably July-August, but still a good late season option.

Consistently inconsistent. Boston will remember Bailey for his dominant stretches as much as they will remember him for the walkoff HR Peralta hit off of him. GL with the Yankees.
Yankees needed a BP piece, that’s what they got. health will be the big focus of this acquisition.

Not like they haven’t risked anything before. Tanaka, Beltran, Pineda. All risks. Giving an MLB a 10 year deal. Big risk.

How is Pineda a risk? They gave up Montero for him….?
