Orioles Sign Brett Wallace

By Zachary Links | March 23, 2014 at 10:36am CDT

The Orioles announced that they have signed corner infielder Brett Wallace.  Wallace will report to minor league camp.  The one-time top prospect was released by the Astros on March 12th.

Wallace, 27 and now with his fifth organization since being selected 13th overall less than six years ago, is coming off a season in which he batted just .221/.284/.431 with 13 homers in 285 plate apperances for the Astros. Wallace has never hit much in 1077 PAs at the big league level, but he's crushed Triple-A pitching to the tune of a .308/.375/.500 triple-slash in more than 1600 PAs.

A 1st baseman with power. He was given up upon by a team out of Texas.

I don’t think so bro, but keep dreaming! 🙂
Davis showed talent in MLB before arriving in Baltimore, Wallace not!

I guarantee that he homers at least twice against the Jays, one of his four previous organizations.*

    *Not a guarantee.

He has good power. Not a bad pickup.

Seriously. Remember when everyone criticized us for that one? Good times. Now, Haren for Mulder…

could be an alright pick up, especially since its only a minor league deal. maybe they can work with him to make the jump past being seemingly stuck as a “AAAA” level player.

Sounds like this is a guy that wouldn’t really fit for the O’s organization, he needs a place where he can see lots of major league pitching to develop due to lack of hitting, a la Chris Davis or Brandon Belt.
