More Cardinals Rumblings

Trusted blogger Lboros has a new post over at Viva El Birdos that does a solid, thorough job of sifting through the rumors flying about in relation to the Cardinals.  Especially with that infamous memo.  The memo!  The memo!  You can check out our post from yesterday morning as a refresher.

The short version:

Walt Jocketty has been unusually uptight this offseason and has been keeping things close to the vest.

The Abreu to the Cards rumor is more than idle speculation; it seems some talks have taken place on that.  Lboros doesn't think the deal is a good fit economically or logically for the Cardinals, regardless.

Jason Marquis is as good as gone; Anthony Reyes is likely to stay.

Solid sources are saying the Cardinals are expected to sign A.J. Burnett soon, and lboros thinks that's the most likely scenario.

here's an update: bernie miklasz of the post-dispatch talked to "a high-ranking official" in the stl organization and asked him: is aj burnett signed? the answer was a flat-out no.

No way the Cards sign Burnett for that kind of money. They'll be hesitant to give him 5 years (whoever does is crazy) , they'll lose out to Matt Morris for big money, and they'll end up picking up 2 mid to low end starters (i.e. Marquis, Tomko, etc)

Cardinals get: RF Bobby Abreu

A’s get: pitching prospect Anthony Reyes, 2B Alfonso Soriano

The A's probably want to stay with Mark Ellis at 2B, so maybe they'd spin Soriano somewhere if the deal came true.

It has been talked about on the radio here in Philly and on the Phillies website from numerous sources....the Phillies are shopping Abreu pretty hard to get a top pitcher in return....just heard on WIP (610) that the Phillies have also talked to the Giants about Abreu for Jason Schmidt....its getting HOT in Philly.

Joe Roa didnt even mention the Abreu/Wells talks - Abreu/Manny (in NYPost today and on XM) and Abreu& Floyd/Zito and Kotsay

TSN's Rosenthal suggested ANgels get Abreu for Scot Shields and prospects - I assume he meant Jeff Mathis, Kendry Morales and Dallas McPherson or mayb even Chone Figgins.

Its not just on WIP - I heard these and I dont listen to WIP anymore...XM Radio and PhillySports950..

the cards should really think about signin' johnny damon as a cf because edmonds is getting old and he should then play l or r field. manny would be a great addition and everyone knows he will get traded, but the thing that concerns me is the money, but with the way walt is doin the cards should think about this so ill have somthin to be happy about. the cards might want to add jeff weaver or paul byrd for their pitchin staff and put anthony reyes at reliever.
