I think the Marlins will do quite well in a Willis trade. He's been in such demand over the last few years and so hyped that some GM is going to vastly overpay for him.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Braves make a run for the D-Train. Maybe Jo Jo and KK for D-Train and Hermida? Just a suggestion. Then sign Tex long term

I don't think Willis is going to fetch a huge bounty. Maybe huge considering his season this year, but overall I don't think it'd be a super block buster.

The Mets should bring back Piazza....He could be a deadly guy off the bench and used as our 3rd string catcher.

"He's been in such demand over the last few years and so hyped that some GM is going to vastly overpay for him." the hype is the main thing. Willis really isn't that good i don't know why he has been able to sustain the hype for so long.

Add in Renteria and Hanley and I think it works; otherwise its too skewed towards Florida.

That was the point I was trying to make. He's not that good, but I think he's better than he's shown this year, but his name has been out there in trade rumors for over 2 years now more than anyone but ARod.
Last year when my DBacks were going after him FLA wanted a package starting with Chris Young and including some nice prospects. Now they'd likely take Chris Young straight up and that would be vastly overpaying IMHO.

I'd be worried about some other team's doctor finding some problem in a physical. His decline screams arm trouble. In the longrun, its probably best if he wants his career to have any kind of longevity. He's just way too heavily relied upon in in the Marlins rotation, because there really isn't anyone else who can eat innings.
And as for getting a CF, think about this: If Larry Benifest so chose, he could have gotten Lastings Milledge, Brian Bannister, and Aaron Heilman for D-train if he'd pulled the trigger last season. It would have turned out to be quite a bounty. Omar Minaya would have done that in a heartbeat, and assuming Dontrelle's problems aren't entirely boredom related, it would have been a huge stain on what's otherwise viewed as a very successful tenure as GM.

He's only going to average 220 plus ip from 21-25, what could possibly be wrong about that?
"If Larry Benifest so chose, he could have gotten Lastings Milledge, Brian Bannister, and Aaron Heilman for D-train"
And that was a crap, made up, offer for him last year.

"I'd be worried about some other team's doctor finding some problem in a physical. His decline screams arm trouble"
And yet Jack McKeon won manager of the year in 2003, and Girardi was in 2006.

The D-Train used to be the reason ppl came to the ballpark and now they boo him. I think the Willis ERA is all but over in Florida. Shame i thought he was gonna be top notch for a lot of years.

I agree with everyone above that Willis has been overrated, but keep in mind Carlos Silva and Curt Schilling are the only pitchers available on the free agent market. Some owner is gonna want to make a huge splash in the offseason to sell tickets and force his GM to make a move for Willis.

They could still get a good haul for him, just not the huge one last year. 2 years of contract left is worth giving up some for.

"And that was a crap, made up, offer for him last year."
If by that you mean that Milledge/Bannister/Heilman would have been considered underpaying you're probably right, only really later in the year though. Bannister would have turned out to be the diamond in the rough, but if that happened before the season started Milledge and Heilman (remember Heilman was still thought of as a potential starter) would have been considered pretty solid centerpieces. Now, if it happened at the deadline, different story completely, as Bannister was out for the season and Milledge's value had plummetted. Obviously, Bannister's back though and pitching quite well, and Milledge stole a starting job on the Mets by playing well.

psh, i wish i was torii hunter. That kid is going to pull of a Alfonso contract and hes young enough where the team will want to pay out of their rears to keep him for 6-7 years. Good for him
Posted by: 04Forever | August 27, 2007 at 01:45 PM
MEddler, not quite sure what deadline you are referring to as Bannister is now on the Kansas City Royals. Anyway, even so looking if that trade had happened, Florida certainly would not be in last place.
Posted by: bravesrule14 | August 27, 2007 at 02:42 PM
I was referring to last season, when Omar would have given up the world to get Willis. He'd have jumped on the idea of making that trade.
Posted by: MEddler | August 27, 2007 at 03:08 PM
why would we trade hermida this guy still has a huge upside for him and will be in RF for some years now for the marlins and that mets deal wasn't that great, milledge seems to be over hyped, i rather have bj upton over lastings milledge
Posted by: Barroid_Bonds | August 27, 2007 at 03:12 PM
Meh, Milledge is pretty much where BJ was a year ago, except he never tried to play infield, which BJ never could really do (hence why it took so long for him to bust out in the bigs). He plays CF really well and has plenty of raw talent. He really sparked the Mets this year and helped reinvigorate them when they needed it most. He's still got a ways to go before he's a star or anything, but he's definetly exposed his potential on the big league level. Real quick bat, good athletic ability, and lots of intensity.
I'll admit I at times thought of Milledge as trade bait, but I've been thoroughly convinced I was wrong. I'm 100% positive the Mets have intentions to put him in an everyday role right from opening day next season, probably RF.

Torii Hunter for $18 million? Horrible idea. His defense has been overrated for a while, his career OPS is below .800, and he hasn't been a good basestealer the past two years. This has "bad franchise move" written all over it, so who will it be? Rangers, Giants, or Orioles?
