Predict A-Rod's Contract
J.C. Bradbury has a contest going over at his Sabernomics blog - the person who comes closest to guessing Alex Rodriguez's next contract gets a signed copy of his book. Check it out.
A lot of good answers were already taken, so I guessed nine years, $305MM ($33.9MM per year).

50 Million a year for 15 years.
Incentives:
- Stipper Pole next to his locker
- V.I.P. Access to Strip clubs at all away venues
- Derek Jeter gives him a pat on the back once a day to stroke his ego.
- A new candy bar "Pay-Rod" be named after him.
- He doesn't have to play in the post season, since he doesn't show up anyway.

27.5M per year for 10 years...75M prorated after career is over (7.5M per yr for 10 years)
Incentives:
- 6 club seats for every game (home and away)
- 10% ownership in television station
- certain performance bonuses

Base salary: 8 years @ $32 million per year ($256 million total).
Clause 1: If during the 8 years, any other MLB player salary rises above $29.1 million per year, the club must adjust his salary to 110% of the highest player salary or else grant him free agency.
Clause 2: A 9th year becomes guaranteed at $31 million with one MVP award and a 10th year becomes guaranteed at $30 million with a second MVP award.

My prediction:
A million-bajillion dollars over 12 years, with opt-out options after every away game, a private jet, 10% of MLB revenue sharing, and garaunteed selection as US ambassador to Tahiti upon retirement, plus a lifetime membership in the Jelly Of The Month Club.

That's the gift that keeps on giving the whole year.

Hey Tim, avid reader, first time commenter. I spotted your prediction
"Tim Dierkes says:
9 years / $305 million / $33.9 million per year
October 23rd, 2007 at 12:33 pm"
I ask you or anyone seriously predicting another $250 mil plus deal - what team do you think is ponying up that dough?

Any team should be willing to do it. A-Rod will basically pay for himself. What i mean by that is theteam that signs him will definitely have a bigger fan base. His merchandise will definitely sell. You get where i'm going with it?
I'm going to say 10 years 305 mil.

10 years, 310 million
where he'll go is a toss up between the red sox, angels, and cubs, with none of that partial owner BS!

The cubs are giving out enormous contracts like they are water. The only way I see A-Rod in Wrigley is if Mark Cuban buys the cubs.
