"Glavine isn't a lock for the Braves - three other teams are interested. The pool includes the Mets, Phillies, Nationals, Cardinals and Astros."
not to nit-pick, but isnt that "five other teams interested"?
That being said, I think its only 2 teams and 3 options in the mind of Tom ~ Mets, Braves or retire...

If Wanye gets Cordero, it will be a successful off-season.
If the Reds can take care of their 'pen problem through free agency, then they can make a trade and have an A+ on the off-season.

Glavine is going to be a Brave; it's as close to a lock as there is in this sort of thing. If he wanted to play for the Mets, he'd have exercised his option, The point is for him to be close to his kids, and the only option for that is Atlanta.
The only thing that could make this drag on is if the Braves don't want to give him close to $10M and if he really cares that much about it.

I think the Astros have the best shot at landing Cordero.

I agree, I think it is a "third time is a charm" type thing. During the offseason when he left the braves for the mets, and last offseason, glavine felt as if he was lowballed by the braves when they offered him "a slap in the face" and no offer at all, respectively. With that being said, I believe that if Wren gives in the 8-9 mill range, glavine will be a braves.
However, I am not so sure glavine may not listen to other teams. I would expect that if the cards were too come in, then glavine may listen. I do not think glavine intends to make as much money as he can, so the nationals (even with the stan kasten wild card) are not really a threat, i do not think.
Also, I have ready in a few spots about how keith law thinks that glavine's stuff will set up for an awful year. While tat may be true, he did come off an injury plagued 2005 season to have a nice 2006 season. In terms of record and wins, he would have been the third best on the team. So, that being said, and not to mention the previously posted effect he can have teaching chuck james, glavine may actually be a james clone and put up similar, but more consistient numbers.

One other thing, if the braves are going to rely on smoltz, hudson, james, and glavine, it appears that we need to also nvest in a few cheap bullpen pieces to be ready in the minors, simply because I have a feeling we could get in the situation where have to log a lot of innings in relief.

Furthermore, i think this alwo would make a move for a young innings eater, joe blanton being a very nice target, be that much more valuable.

If glavine signs with the braves, the mets get their 18th pick in the draft. After wiping out the farm last year for tex and dotel, I honestly feel like it would be much wiser of the braves to sign livan and keep the draft pick. Plus, giving the mets a top 20 pick can't be what they want to do. I get all the history there, but for what glavine brings, versus what the team would lose to bring him in, how is he a better value than many options out there on the free agent market. Why would they even consider signing him to block the kid they just got from detroit? I think they would be much better off spending that money on a bullpen, or centerfield, or a backup plan for chipper.

Sorry, that was confusing what I said about Glavine.
Clifton said three other teams are interested but then I tried to list all of the teams this site has noted as interested.

I think one of the main reasons Glavine is of more interest to Atlanta than the FA options (aside from the past connection) is the market. Guys like Livan, Silva, etc. are going to get not only top dollar (at or what Glavine will get), but multi-year deals. Having Glavine on a one-year deal with a mutual option is not only cheaper, it protects them in case he regresses badly. Plus he's a known factor - they pretty much know what they're going to get out of him. With the FA options, not so much.
