Ken Rosenthal busts out a few new ones.
- The Royals have been in touch with Ron Mahay's agent. Rosenthal names the Yankees, Giants, and Astros as other interested parties. Why the Giants? The Royals would trade Jimmy Gobble and then sign Mahay. Regarding the Yankees, Rosenthal says that the Santana situation somehow affects their willingness to sign Mahay. Meanwhile, Jayson Stark says the Rays are also in on Mahay.
- The Nationals asked for Chad Qualls and Luke Scott for Chad Cordero and were rebuffed by Ed Wade and the Astros. It's not the craziest offer but how many outfielders do the Nationals need? 12? We heard two hours ago that Scott was almost a Padre, but haven't had any follow-up. Buster?
I'm guessing the offer was made before they got Dukes.

Qualls and Scott for "Big Chief?" I was at least have to think about that one for a few before I threw it away. Does anyone have any clue what type of stratagy Wade has going into the Winter Meetings?

Because the Giants bullpen sucks donkeys...
Although, he will be expensive. I'd rather spend on a bat

Tim - Any follow through regarding Luke Scott? Is he a Pad yet? If not, I can see him being a sleeper big hit for some team. I've watched him the past couple of years and his swing has improved greatly. His power is very deceptive too. He is worth a good AAA arm in a trade.

I'm not so sure Qualls won't have a better season than Cordero next year. No need to trade 2 cheap parts for 1 expensive one.
I really hope the Astros get something for Scott. As of right now he is their ONLY pop off the bench.

Yeah, I kinda balked at first when I heard about the Cordero proposal, but maybe there's something there... Well, maybe there was.

Jimmy Gobble is qquite possibly the best name ever.

WHAT!?!?!? i would have agreed to that deal instantly.. we picked up a few bullpen arms already.. I for one feel its time to let Qualls go, the astros are rebuilding which means things are changing, wheeler lidge and qualls are all parts of the past.. I cant believe Wade let Cordero pass by

Are you kidding me Cordero for Qualls and Luke Scott, NO WAY!!! Look for Qualls to have a better season than COrdero for sure, plus Luke Scott, what are the Nationals smokin'!!

Uhh Cordero is only 26, and has had at least 29 saves in each of the last three years. Chad Qualls is probably about an equal pitcher to that of Cordero. Essentially it depends on how the Astros value Luke Scott, and whether they would prefer the younger, proven, and soon to be expensive, Cordero, or the older, solid set up man Qualls. There is definately nobody smoking crack in that deal.
