« A Crazy, Rumor-Filled Day | Main | Crasnick's Latest: Hamilton, Figgins, Andruw, Inge »
At about 4:30 today, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said "he's in the mix, I guess" in reference to Andruw Jones. According to Sox GM Kenny Williams, Ozzie guessed wrong. Williams says Jones is not on his list, as he desires patient hitters.
Williams' statement about patience might indicate the Sox are in on Jason Bay and Kosuke Fukudome, as has been rumored. Others who exhibit patience or deep counts who might be available: Nick Swisher, Austin Kearns, Reggie Willits, Johnny Damon, Brian Roberts, Jamey Carroll, Milton Bradley, and Mike Cameron.

Good, I feel like Andruw Jones would be a huge bust. Getting Nick Swisher would be awesome for the White Sox. Would the Athletics consider something like Swisher for Gio Gonzalez and Jerry Owens?

right, that wouldnt have done anything for the team. I'd like to see the sox acquire any of the younger guys on that list, leaving out damon, bradley, carrol, and cameron.

Brian Roberts is not available.

I dont get how Swisher could be available, the A's signed him to a 5 year 27mil contract extension in May. Id say thats a very cheap price considering the contract Jose Guillen just got.

and bowdens asking price for austin kearns im sure will be idiotic, and a .267 average in the NL doesnt translate well into the AL although he'd be hitting in a much better hitters park.

Yes! 12/04/07 The day the White Sox discovered on-base percentage.

"Brian Roberts is not available."
Why wouldnt he be? I think everybody on the ML Roster is available besides Markakis.

Kenny claims he wants patient hitters. Swisher is not.

"Kenny claims he wants patient hitters. Swisher is not."
Swisher walked 100 times last year and had an OBP of .381. He's patient.
Posted by: Teej | December 04, 2007 at 08:33 PM
You're right, I was thinking about all of his strikeouts.
Posted by: stelter13 | December 04, 2007 at 08:41 PM
Strikeouts don't matter. Swisher is a good hitter with a great eye, he should be able to at least reproduce that .381 OBP next year. This guys forte is getting on base.
Posted by: scribbletone | December 04, 2007 at 08:46 PM
Andruw Jones would be a total waste of money. Money better spent on 2 or 3 players. I would like to see the Sox sign Fukudome if he is as good as advertised.
Posted by: BIGHURT35 | December 04, 2007 at 08:49 PM
Yeah...thats like saying Dunn isn't patient. If you have a .380 OBP, strikeouts are just fine.
Posted by: Aduncaroo | December 04, 2007 at 08:50 PM
yes it's about time kenny williams finally made a good choice i guess they arn't in for jones anymore good job dipshit you made your first good desicion since you have been in chicago here you deserve a cookie.

It doesnt matter who the Sox go after, they will be in last place next year guranteed. I am the biggest Sox fan I know and I have 0 confidence in asshole Williamsberg to turn this train wreck around. Dump Thome, Contreras, Dye, and Pierzynski and get younger. We have no chance of competiting with the Tigers/Indians/Twins or even the Royals at this point. Cut your losses, realize the terrible investments and move on.
BTW, what good is OB% if the players on base are only fast enough to go station to station?

Wow...You took the words right our of my mouth.

I apoligize, in the name of sensible White Sox fans, for the asininity of the above two posters.
Posted by: gogopalehose | December 04, 2007 at 09:02 PM
sensible sox fans must like softball more than baseball
Posted by: gogowhitesox | December 04, 2007 at 09:04 PM
that being gogowhitesox and scottchisox fan...I mean it would be GREAT to get rid of those guys but we have no one better and we would be trading them for crap. Thank God you people will never be GMs...

"I mean it would be GREAT to get rid of those guys but we have no one better and we would be trading them for crap."
They are crap themselves! Whats the difference except the crap we get back has potential to get better not get hip replacements.
Posted by: gogowhitesox | December 04, 2007 at 09:07 PM
Sensible Sox fans that appreciate Kenny Williams for bringing the first World Series to Chicago in 88 years. If we trade those guys, we'd get crap, have to pay their salaries, have to put worse players on the field and then have our fans ditch us.
Posted by: gogopalehose | December 04, 2007 at 09:20 PM
Get off the cloud dude, the honeymoon is over. KW does not get a lifetime pass for winning a WS. Thats his job!!! Ever since Pods-Lee, he thinks he can steal players with these lowball offers. Its embarrassing as a Sox fan to hear other Sox fans like gogopalehose being satisfied with 1 championhip in 90 years. 05 was amazing, but c'mon its long over with and you should be worried about your GM winning in 08,09,10 ect not 05.
Posted by: gogowhitesox | December 04, 2007 at 09:28 PM
Yeah...he's sort of working on that...but no one will take those players you mentioned for anything that would help and we would be with another hole. Except maybe Thome, who has a full NTC. I'd try to maybe trade Konerko and that's it.
Posted by: gogopalehose | December 04, 2007 at 09:35 PM
who needs a power hitting first baseman thats looking to contend? i cant really think of any teams. No one in the NL East, no one in the NL Central, maybe the Giants, but they have nothing to offer outside of lincecum and cain, and they arent goin anywhere, We could maybe sell him to the rangers since Botts hasnt panned out for them, Mariners cant rid themselves of sexson, obviously no one in the central, ao that leaves possibly the blue jays if they can get rid of overbay/glaus. I just dont see what KW's next move could be. NO ROWAND!
Posted by: trober81 | December 04, 2007 at 09:45 PM
Desperate times call for desperate measures, Williams has to swallow his pride and starting being a businessman. Our division is young, talented, and up-and-coming while the Sox are getting older and worse. They need to make major moves. Quentin was a nice pick up.
Posted by: gogowhitesox | December 04, 2007 at 09:54 PM
I second the NO ROWAND
