« Cardinals Leaning Towards Keeping Barton | Main | Conine To Sign One-Day Contract With Marlins »
Matt Birt checking in for the afternoon to cover all your trade rumor needs. Hopefully you're prepping your kegs and eggs for tomorrow's St. Patrick's Day festivities. Unfortunately, tomorrow morning I will be talking all things Catch-22 with a bunch of seventeen and eighteen year-olds, when I'd like nothing more than to celebrate with my family and pals. Such is life.
While I cover rumors, I'll be listening to Edinson Volquez dominate the Phillies (I'm liking that trade more and more), and dreaming of the day the Reds run out a rotation of Harang, Arroyo, Cueto, Volquez, and Bailey. Please feel free to email me with any rumors that cross your path.

Clever Mr. Star. Clever ;-)

Clever indeed.

Also listening to Volquez, between him and Cueto, the NL Central better watch out. If you don't know these guys now, you'll know em by the end of April, that is as long as their retooled bullpen holds up.

how long would it be for that rotation?
Posted by: fgsfsfbbbrd | March 16, 2008 at 01:26 PM
Current rotation is Harang, Arroyo, Cueto, Volquez, Fogg. Bailey has not impressed anyone this spring, almost guranteed to start in Louisville. I don't think anyone can predict when he'll come back up and if he'll ever hit his potential.

Arroyo isn't anything great. Why would you want him in your rotation besides the fact he gobbles up innings?
Posted by: Barroid_Bonds | March 16, 2008 at 01:31 PM
@fgsfsfbbbrd
Bailey is definitely heading down to Loouhvul. It seems that the consensus in camp is that in addition to needing to refine his work from the mound, he needs an attitude adjustment. I agree with what Grizzly said. It's up in the air whether he's ever living up to that potential.
@ Barroid:
Because he gobbles up innings and he's not terrible. That's gold in Cincy.

Only 1 out of 3 prospects ever become more than journeymen. Keep dreaming!

@ Horatio:
Perhaps. But we're talking specific players here, and I'm going to go ahead and bet on Volquez and Cueto.
Two out of three ain't bad.
Plus, I think Braves fans might recall four young pitchers with a lot of promise named Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, and Avery. Three out of four definitely ain't bad.

I remember the good ole days of 2003, when we Cubs fans dreamed of the NL Central titles we'd win with a rotation of Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Clement, and Guzman. Then Dusty showed up.
Good luck with that.

Must you burst the bubble of a fan of one of the worst franchises in baseball when he finally has a little something to be hopeful about?
Remind me to look elsewhere for a pick-me-up when I'm feeling down. You MLBTR readers are a nasty bunch ;-)
Probably has something to do with so many of you being Cubs fans.

@Wilcofan:
I am also a tremendous fan of Wilco. Jeff Tweedy is one of the great songwriters of the last twenty years.

Looks like the deal might work out for both teams.
Hamilton has been hitting .600 or something like that so far in S-T. Hope Volquez busts out with the Reds. He has awesome stuff and just needs a chance. Who throws harder: Volquez or Cueto? Wish we had two studly young power arms like that (or even 1)...

Texas have a studly power arm, but he flamed out on 2 different occassions in Texas and got sent to the NL of a OF. Im all for EV workingout, but i just dont think his high hard ones stood a chance in Arlington.
