« Mets Dangle Relievers For OF Help | Main | Does Crede Make Sense For Dodgers? »
Coco Crisp isn't too happy about his competition for Boston's center field job. Today, the Boston Herald reports that Coco is calling the situation "bogus." Why would you want to sit on the bench?" Coco asks. "Why would you want to do that?"
Meanwhile, on the left coast, the Angels' Juan Rivera finds himself the odd man out in L.A.'s crowded outfield, but isn't getting worked up about it. The L.A. Times says Rivera wouldn't mind sitting the bench, if it comes to that. "There's no pressure from the owner, no pressure from the fans, no pressure from the media," Rivera says.
Both Crisp and Rivera are candidates to be dealt by the start of the season. The Times points out that the Angels could trade Rivera for pitching depth, given that Kelvim Escobar and Chris Bootcheck will start the season on the disabled list and John Lackey and Scot Shields are fighting nagging injuries. As Big Mike noted earlier, San Diego might be looking for an outfielder now that Jim Edmonds is out with an injury. And the Mets are dangling pitchers in an attempt to find a replacement for injured Moises Alou.

Hah, maybe the Red Sox should ask for Josh Bard back. Or Cla Meredith.

why would the padres be interested in crisp? they have plenty of options in the outfield and there is a good chance edmonds will be ready by the beginning of the season or shortly after. o and crisp isnt that good. especially moving from fenway to petco.

Rivera to the Cubs makes a great deal of sense for both parties. The Cubs have some pitching they could move and Rivera would be ideal as at least a platoon partner for Pie yet he would also have the potential to win the job outright, relegating Pie to a backup role or a trip back to AAA to learn how to hit. That or a trip to Baltimore in a Brian Roberts deal. Me gusta.

Rivera really shouldn’t be playing in CF, he has proved well below average when tried there in the past…

Crisp is one of the best defensive center fielders in the game and would handle center in Petco as well as anyone. Rivera seemed fat the last time I saw him.

If Schoenweis and Sosa are price for Rivera, then Rivera isn't as good as I once thought.
Seriously, are EITHER Schoenweis or Sosa desired commodities anywhere? Schoenweis is Ron Villone, plus $7M. And Sosa isn't any better.

Juan Rivera and Erik Aybar for Khalil Greene. That makes sense for everyone

I think that Juan Rivera would be a good option for the New York Mets. He could fill in for Moises Alou in left field and could be on the bench when Alou is healed [which is a strong IF since he is over 40 and hasn't played in more than 150 games since 2004.] Rivera could also be part of the right field platoon with Ryan Church that Omar Minaya has been wanting. Rivera can play the corner spots of the outfield and can also play first if Delgado is injured. Rivera would also be pretty cheap since he is nothing more than a forth or fifth outfielder on the Angels. Maybe a prospect or two for Rivera would do it. Rivera would also provide some power protection for Beltran, Delgado, and Wright in the Met's lineup.

Rivera or Morales to the Mets would make a whole lot of sense. Both can play OF/1B, both have nice power and would be great options as full time players. Neither should be riding pine but they will if they stay in LA.
Of course, it goes without saying that we DO NOT want Scottie back in our bullpen. He might be one of the most untradeable players in all of MLB. He's a terrible reliever and has an outrageous contract. Not Minaya's finest moment.

i really believe juan rivera is a guy the indians could/should pursue... i think that would be a perfect fit in left field. they could trade michaels/dellucci to the mets and work something to bring in rivera... just my thoughts

Coco would be playing if he was better...he should shut up. There are more teams that Jed Lowrie would start for than there are that Crisp would start for. Lowrie's not publicly whining...

Plus, Lowrie may be better than Lugo. Crisp is behind Ellsbury.
Posted by: snowmanny | March 08, 2008 at 08:37 PM
Lowrie's a prospect that hasn't even reached the majors, and projects as a second basemen anyway, so Lugo has him beat on defense. Crisp is a gold glove type center fielder and has been in the league for years. There is a huge difference.

yes crisp is a proven decent player. lowrie has never played in the pros but all of the sudden hes a starter? what? i sware these silly red sox fans.
