« Astros Acquire Randy Wolf | Main | Jon Rauch Traded To Diamondbacks »
According to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun, Jay Gibbons is expected to sign a minor league deal with the Brewers. He had been playing for the Long Island Ducks.
Gibbons is known for writing a letter to the other 29 teams after being cut by the Orioles, apologizing for taking HGH and offering to play for free. I'm surprised; I didn't expect anyone to sign him.

is he playing for free, thats an admirable move even considering his hgh past

Even at the league minimum, this move doesn't hurt the Brewers any. They're stockpiling veterans for the bench, that's a smart move for the stretch run.

So what exactly does he have over Bonds, other than the ability to get a sunburn?

I'm sure he's coming at much less cost than Bonds, and doesn't bring the media circus with him.

Gibbons always played decent defense in the outfield as well as having pop in his bat. Perhaps he becomes next year's Josh Hamilton?

He isn't going on their bench, its a MINOR LEAGUE contract.

As a life long orioles fan who has seen jay gibbons play many many time i can truthfully say he will not become the next josh hamilton. i promise you that.

Could not agree more with Donny A. In know way, shape, or form will Jay Gibbons be the next Josh Hamilton. I can't stress this enough.

Solid signing. No risk for the Brewers.

I believe Brewers assistant GM Gord Ash may have drafted Gibbons while with the Jays.
I'm too busy right now to check, though.
