Jayson Stark brings us a few more tidbits from the Hot Stove...
- The price for Raul Ibanez may be too high for the Mets as Stark reiterates what we heard previously, that Fernando Martinez and Jon Niese are not available...Ken Rosenthal added Robert Parnell to that list of untouchables.
- The Mets may no longer be in the running for Brian Fuentes as they are not willing to part with Aaron Heilman.
- Stark says other relief pitchers the Mets have shown some interest in include Cla Meredith, Chad Bradford and Jeremy Affeldt.
- The Dodgers are said to be interested in several relief pitchers, including Fuentes, George Sherrill, David Weathers and Alan Embree, but they are not interested in Huston Street. The other possibility is Greg Maddux, who would allow the Dodgers to move another starter to the bullpen.
- The Indians' primary goal now is to deal Paul Byrd.

I don't know who the mets expect to get without giving up Neise or Parnell.

Still don't get why LA would want another LH reliever. But if they get one, fine, join the party---but I would hope that's not what they are dangling LaRoche out there for. Maddux deal still SEEMS like it would be inevitable one way or the other, and on the cheap as well.

Attention Mets fans! Apparently you just landed Bay without giving up Niese or Fmart. Congrats and now I officially hope you win it all if this turns out to be true.

I'm dumbfounded at the fact that the Mets aren't willing to give up Heilman for Fuentes. If the trade was Heilman for Fuentes strait up, it would be a no-brainer for me. Heilman is terribly overrated.

Sorry all. Ignore my last post. I was basing this on information I got on another blog. Turns out it was a Yankee fan, F'in poser troll making it all up and referencing sources that seemed plausible.

"I'm dumbfounded at the fact that the Mets aren't willing to give up Heilman for Fuentes."
No, you are just dumb.

First of all, the Mets do not need a lefty in their pen. Second of all, Heilman is the only reliable righty.

The Mets would be dumb not to give Heilman for Fuentes. In fact, the Rockies would be dumb to make that trade. A 4.7 era this year, and a career era over 4, playing half of his games in the toilet? pass. Fuentes would be better this year, and would net 2 high draft picks or the chance of resigning him.

"No, you are just dumb."
Oh, how very big of you. I post my opinion and you just decide yours is better. I'm so sorry I'm not as smart as the all-mighty nrmax!

The Mets have what it takes without F-Mart, Niese, and parnell... It would take Wilmer Flores and Dan Murphy, I think. I'd be happy with that return, Murphy would be the solid prospect, but Flores would be the projected talent... Like Tabata going to the Pirates, it wouldn't be for what Flores has done, but what he's capable of doing in the future with his skillsets... This keeps the Mets from giving up their MLB ready or soon-to-be ready players... Murphy is blocked and Flores is as well to some degree... While Flores is young, Reyes probably would get an extension and still be in his late 20s by the time Flores would be ready for the majors...

That's in regard to Ibanez.
Posted by: BaseballGuru | July 27, 2008 at 08:48 AM
I doubt Flores will be traded for a rental. He is currently raking with the kingsport mets at 16. He is not blocked because he will not stick at shortstop and will most likely move to the outfield when he fills out. Weren't you the one who didn't want Carp or Evans. Now you want a young promising prospect and Murphy who switched to 2B and projects to be a power hitting second baseman for a rental in Ibanez. You are crazy.
