« White Sox Interested In Joel Hanrahan | Main | Lefty Relievers: Ohman, Grabow, Eyre, Mahay »
3:05pm: The Griffey deal is official.
2:37pm: Jeff Blair talked to a source who thinks the White Sox might move one of their outfield-DH types for pitching help.
2:18pm: Hal McCoy comments on Griffey's time in Cincinnati.
10:25am: Per Ken Rosenthal, Griffey approved the trade. It might involve $1MM+ in cash somehow.
10:16am: The deal awaits Griffey's approval, but it'd be for Danny Richar and Nick Masset according to Danny Knobler. The Reds will hopefully be willing to kick in some cash for Junior to approve the deal if necessary.
8:02am: Rosenthal says the Sox would most likely use Griffey in the outfield, though it's been a while since he's played center regularly.
7:08am: From out of nowhere, the White Sox have acquired Ken Griffey Jr. Ken Rosenthal says the deal awaits Junior's approval. The fit is unclear, as the Sox have Carlos Quentin and Jermaine Dye in the corners and Jim Thome at DH. Perhaps they'll try Griffey at first base?

Buh huh? I wonder what they got for him.
Posted by: Something Profound | July 31, 2008 at 07:11 AM
yeah kind of an odd add to the lineup, maybe they will try Quentin at center.
Posted by: Dev0 | July 31, 2008 at 07:11 AM
can't say I saw that one coming... acha!
Posted by: dannyd | July 31, 2008 at 07:12 AM
This deal seemed to come out of the blue. If he stays healthy, that offense will be even better... provided they have somewhere to put all the guys.
Posted by: UtesFan89 | July 31, 2008 at 07:15 AM
Pardon me while I do my victory dance. Wanted the Reds to move Griffey because there was a very real threat that he would accept arbitration. Sorry White Sox fans Griffey is on his last legs and is really a DH only player at this point.
Posted by: schellis | July 31, 2008 at 07:17 AM
Maybe Griffey can play 1B. Maybe Griffey plays LF and Quentin moves to 1B. Maybe Griffey plays RF and Dye moves to 1B. Maybe Griffey and Thome swap off time at DH and 1B. Who knows. Maybe the Sox don't even know, but if you can get a bat that good you get it and worry about where to put him later.
Posted by: cabiness42 | July 31, 2008 at 07:19 AM
I guess the interleague series wasn't the last game Griffey plays at the old Yankee Stadium after all...
Posted by: mko | July 31, 2008 at 07:20 AM
Why can't Griff still play center? Their up the middle D is pretty solid with Cabrera and Alexei. Dye is an above average RF. I say Griff plays CF.
Posted by: MValerio41 | July 31, 2008 at 07:22 AM
Griffey is starting to be a horrible OF, Putting him at center would be bad IMO.
This sucks, I hate the Sox and love Jr.
Posted by: pghman77 | July 31, 2008 at 07:23 AM
Putting Griffey in CF would give the White Sox, hands down, the worst OF in major league baseball (Worst and slowest).
Posted by: ChiSox33 | July 31, 2008 at 07:25 AM
I think he'll play somewhere in the outfield.
Posted by: yankees16 | July 31, 2008 at 07:26 AM
You do not want Griffey in CF. He was the worst CF in the majors by far the last time he played it. He isn't even a good RF now, and honestly I think Dunn is better in LF then Griffey would be as well.
Put Griffey in CF and you negate any offensive production that he'd provide plus I believe he'd be injured inside two weeks.
I would play Griffey at DH...failing that he would play LF...but since its Griffey he won't play any OF position other then RF, took the Reds a few years just to get him out of CF.
Hate to say it but Griffey really isn't that great a bat any more either. Though he has been hitting better here lately.
Posted by: schellis | July 31, 2008 at 07:26 AM
being a Reds and White sox fan, im excited. Im just hoping the Reds got more than 2 months of Cabrera. Im hoping Lance Broadway is the return for the Reds.
Posted by: GmblngPtchr20 | July 31, 2008 at 07:26 AM
Kenny would not give up Lance Broadway for Griffey. As far as I know, they are still in the running for Street. They are certainly going to need him for Street.
Posted by: ChiSox33 | July 31, 2008 at 07:28 AM
There are only two ways I see Griffey fitting on that club:
1, if the White Sox are planning a deal that will send one of their bats out.
2, if Paul Konerko plays third base and Swisher plays first base, Quentin plays center field, and Griffey plays right field. Griffey might play first, and Swisher stays in center, who knows...
Posted by: Mattchu12 | July 31, 2008 at 07:39 AM
Maybe there's another move coming. Thome & prospects to the A's for Street?
Posted by: Thundersticks | July 31, 2008 at 07:39 AM
Thundersticks,
If that is what ends up happening, I would be all for this deal. Right now, no way Griffey fits in with the Sox.
Posted by: ChiSox33 | July 31, 2008 at 07:44 AM
What everyone said pretty much, I don't see an opening for regular play time for Junior on White Sox, would probably have to rotate people through the corner spots to make this work, seems weird.
Posted by: zs190 | July 31, 2008 at 07:53 AM
Well, they were just talkin on 670 the score in Chicago, that the sox want him for center. LMAO. Griffey fits in perfect alright low average, once in awhile will hit a homer and can't play defense. For a team whose era keeps rising, they try to grab offense. I dont know why the hell Oakland would want Thome when they're wishing they could get rid of Thomas. Hmm...
Posted by: goathedxxx | July 31, 2008 at 07:56 AM
Chicago radio has been talking about moving Swisher to first and benching Paulie and his .212 BA for a few weeks now.
My money is on Griffer, Quentin, Dye...for LF,CF, RF, Thome DH, Crede 3b and P-Kon on the bench.
I could see Kenny packaging Thome or P-Kon, but you'd have to include Josh Fields which depends on re-signing Crede, a Boras client which probably won't happen until the offseason, so I bet they stand pat. After the deadline I bet they pick up a bullpen arm, but that's about it.
Posted by: Dave | July 31, 2008 at 07:57 AM
Outfield bat to the Mets for bullpen help?
Posted by: carlosgomezisfast | July 31, 2008 at 08:00 AM
For?

Lifelong Reds fan here.
There is a God.
Posted by: digory1 | July 31, 2008 at 08:02 AM
I think they move Griffey to 1B because Konerko is having a miserable year.
Posted by: yankfan1 | July 31, 2008 at 08:03 AM
From what I've heard on the score 670 in chicago, griffey will play CF and Swisher will play 1B. Konerko will be on the bench. This does make the White Sox offense better since Swisher was hitting tons better while he was playing first base. I think this is a good deal, IF the Sox didn't have to give up some top prospects. If they gave up some top prospects for Griffey, it doesn't sound as good.
Posted by: ashrok03 | July 31, 2008 at 08:06 AM
Beane already has the Sox prospects from the Swisher deal. I don't see Street coming to the Sox. As far as Griffey, it is a decent move. They need a stick. His best days are long behind them, but he can't hurt...unless he gets hurt. Putting him in CF would be a DL stint in waiting. Plus, those CF days are long gone. The name is not the same player. He does fit into what the Sox are built for this year though and I think it helps. This is an aging, home run hitting club, little speed, mixed with a couple younger guys. I would guess PK is given days off more often.
Posted by: studio179 | July 31, 2008 at 08:09 AM
Griffey's stay in Cincy has been rocky, he may feel rejuvenated elsewhere, although if he thinks Reds fans are jerks wait until he gets to Chicago and starts to slump.
Griffey in Left is a workable solution, I don't know what the WSox are like, but s**t he's Ken Griffey Jr., his instincts are near flawless.
Posted by: jbibbali | July 31, 2008 at 08:12 AM
Thundersticks: Why would the A's want Thome? Don't they have that already in Thomas? Unless its a "take Thome off our hands and we'll sweeten the prospect pot" type deal. Cust is a defensive liability in LF, which is why he's DHing.
Wonder what ChiSox gave up. I assume this has something to do with benching PK and moving Swisher to 1B. Griffey's defense isn't anything to write home about either.
Posted by: melonis rex | July 31, 2008 at 08:14 AM
I guess the way to alleviate the problem of having two DHs rotating in and out of the lineup is to pick up a third one!
Nick Swisher is going to play a big part in this deal, as whether they want to bench Konerko or move one of the DHs to make Griffey the DH will depend on where they want to put Swisher.
I don't think the White Sox need Griffey, but I guess they felt they had to make a move. Now about that starting pitching...
Posted by: MattyMets | July 31, 2008 at 08:19 AM
"I dont know why the hell Oakland would want Thome when they're wishing they could get rid of Thomas. Hmm..."
Huh? The As are paying Thomas the prorated minimum. Even they could eat that by DFA'ing him.
Posted by: V | July 31, 2008 at 08:21 AM
Swisher has the potential to win a gold glove at first. Having watched him with Oakland for a few years, that definitely seems like his most comfortable position. To me, it looks like Konerko is going to get the short end of the stick.
I just don't see how Griffey makes the Sox any better at this point in his career.
Posted by: 1quik6 | July 31, 2008 at 08:29 AM
One comment, one question:
Jr's instincts are a problem because he still thinks he's 25 out there. He's misjudged several balls this year in critical points in the game, especially coming in on the ball. He dives late and misses or comes up short. He's living in the past out there...and that's in right field.
Also, any news on what's coming back Cincy's way?
Posted by: bweav44 | July 31, 2008 at 08:51 AM
as of right now this trade is terrible. if this is the only move the wsox make then this sucks.
however, if kenny can some how unload any mix of thome/swisher/konerko then whatever.
if they think jr can play center then this is bad all around.
Posted by: Paul | July 31, 2008 at 08:56 AM
Hey White Sox Fans, thanks for taking an old, slow, at the end of his career has been, who can't even bat .250 anymore. I'll take a lb of sand from US Cellular Field for Griffey!
Jr. your dad was great, but you just didn't pan out. Please leave Cincinnati while you can!
Posted by: RedsRedsReds | July 31, 2008 at 09:09 AM
Lifelong sox fan here, and this makes absolutely no sense. None.
If Kenny Williams thinks this guy can still play CF he is certifiably out of his damn mind. He has no range and he'll be hurt in about 10 minutes.
Posted by: ginandtacos.com | July 31, 2008 at 09:11 AM
5 minutes...
Posted by: RedsRedsReds | July 31, 2008 at 09:13 AM
Wow...Griffey and IRod are traded and they're considered playoff pieces?
Manny might go next?
Fernando Tatis is mashing?
Is it 1999?
Posted by: McGrifftheCrimeDog | July 31, 2008 at 09:19 AM
1) depending on who the pale hose gave up, this could be a good deal.
2) reddsredsreds, jr griffey is a has been that didn't pan out? 608 home runs seems to disagree with you. Just cuz the Reds can't build a winning team to save their lives, doesn't mean griffey is to blame.
Posted by: tschram | July 31, 2008 at 09:30 AM
I'm personally getting sick and tired of everyone bashing Griffey, especially these "Reds fans" who think trading Dunn AND Griffey are the solution to our problems. Griffey's defense may have not been as good as it once was mainly due to him not being as aggressive to stay healthy and not risk injury. You guys are never happy, either Griffey is always hurt or his defense is horrible. Cut the winning and crying.
Griffey has been hitting much better as of late, specifically after the All-Star break raising his average from the .230s
Pre-All-Star break: .235
Post-All-Star break: .318
Last month: 15r 5hr 17rbi .271
Posted by: RedsFan | July 31, 2008 at 09:33 AM
This deal makes no sense. Kenny better have something else up his sleeve. Jr is a DH at this point in his career and nothing else. Would rather have Brian Anderson and his defense in CF. Sox need speed and pitching. Don't need another one dimensional HR hitter
Posted by: whitesox70 | July 31, 2008 at 09:33 AM
I agree with whitesox70. It seems to me that Paulie should be benched/traded, Swisher plays 1st and Anderson plays CF. There is no room for Griffey.
Posted by: karena | July 31, 2008 at 09:43 AM
Sox fans are missing the big picture; Griffey to the Sox means Konerko to the bench. Does this make the Sox better?? Yes.
Posted by: forlife61 | July 31, 2008 at 09:45 AM
Griffey has had one season for the Reds in which he hit 40 homers and over 100 RBI's, and guess when that was? In 2000, when he first joined the team.. How can you honestly say that Griffey worked in Cincinnati? And don't even give me that "Well he was hurt, the numbers would have been there".. Griffey is no longer "the kid", he is no longer a guy you can count on for solid numbers day in and day out. And there has only been 13 games played since the All Star break, Griffey batting .318 is a meaningless stat because all players get on some kind of hot streak sooner or later. Griffey has batted over .300 one time for the reds and it was .301, in '05... So take that .318 after the all star break stat and put it back in your pocket..

Yeah, and it raised his overall year average to a whopping .245! I know that's worth 16 million! Look, Griffey is a cancer in that clubhouse. He's lazy and it wears off on people like Dunn and Phillips. He doesn't hussle, he doesn't seem to care about anything but himself. Every single year he has been in Cincinnati, he has underperformed. I am thrilled to see him go. I don't care what we get in return from the ChiSox as long as it isn't Konerko or Thome...
Posted by: Mainevent41 | July 31, 2008 at 10:08 AM
Well said Mainevent..
Posted by: RedsRedsReds | July 31, 2008 at 10:14 AM
Well, I hope the reds get anderson in this deal, all the talent and no clue how to use it. Reds fans will be crying to get griffey back if that is the case.
Posted by: tschram | July 31, 2008 at 10:19 AM
If Griffey is playing CF he's a season-ending injury waiting to happen.
Posted by: KrumbledKookie | July 31, 2008 at 10:26 AM
Well, just as I predicted, the Reds didn't get much in return for Griffey, but I would've traded a rosin bag and pine tar just to get rid of him, his attitude, and his salary.
Posted by: Mainevent41 | July 31, 2008 at 10:27 AM
Rangers want Masset, Reds want Laird...maybe there will be a spin-off?
Posted by: dmerandom | July 31, 2008 at 10:31 AM
Obviously it would take more than Masset...but maybe he's a piece.
Posted by: dmerandom | July 31, 2008 at 10:32 AM
Griffey will deny the trade. He won't get 100% playing time at any position.
Posted by: striker | July 31, 2008 at 10:36 AM
As long as the Reds don't have a .240 under 20 homers and barely 50 RBI guy batting in the 3 SPOT, I am happy.. He killed the entire lineup, If Dusty would have had the balls to bat Griffey 6th or 7th, this would be a completely different season.
Posted by: RedsRedsReds | July 31, 2008 at 10:40 AM
yeah, it would have been a completely different season. Cuz it's ken griffey jr's fault that the starting rotation sucks and corey patterson is on your team.
Posted by: tschram | July 31, 2008 at 10:46 AM
right now clearly the only spot fro griffey is left field and move quentien to center he can play first b/c i hope u havent forgotten paul konerko and thome is dh so the only place i can see him playing right now is left field
Posted by: yankeefanbriccio13 | July 31, 2008 at 10:51 AM
sorry i made a mistake i meant to say he cant plaay first b/c konerko is there
Posted by: yankeefanbriccio13 | July 31, 2008 at 10:52 AM
"As long as the Reds don't have a .240 under 20 homers and barely 50 RBI guy batting in the 3 SPOT, I am happy.."
Exactly. Thats why this is a great deal for the Sox. Junior wont be batting 3rd in Chicago, but will be batting 6th. No matter what he does, Im sure it will be better than the crapfest which is known as Paul Konerko.
Posted by: forlife61 | July 31, 2008 at 11:02 AM
Why, Just why. This deal makes no sense for the white sox. Like we need another player with a 350 OBP and another .240 average in the lineup. WTF! Nick Masset isn't worth Griffey straight up IMHO. He's washed up, and now the white sox are too.
Posted by: EvilCamaroSS | July 31, 2008 at 11:02 AM
Kenny Williams does some strange stuff, but this is pretty far out there. I guess he thinks Griffey's name is more important than his production. He's already got Konerko, Swisher and Thome producing sub-par numbers, I guess he thought he needed to add another sub-par bat to his lineup. If Konerko is the guy that hits the bench due to Griffey coming to the team that would probably not be a good thing. I would guess Konerko has a better chance of "snapping out of it" so to speak than Griffey does, since KGj is just old and in decline.
Anyway, I can't see how this helps the Sox at all, other than making Williams feel good about himself in some strange way.
Posted by: pageian | July 31, 2008 at 11:06 AM
tschram,
If your number 3 batter is traditionally your best hitter, and we have a guy who bats .240 in that spot, yes it would have made a difference this season. I agree our starting pitching has been weak (but very promising), and I agree Patterson should never step foot on a diamond, but you can't have a 38 year old cancer, in the Heart of the order around young guys like Phillips, Edwin, Votto, and Bruce. I really do think it would have made a difference. I don't see how that is so out of line? 3 batter having 53 RBI'S at this point in the season? THAT DOESNT WIN BASEBALL GAMES!
Posted by: RedsRedsReds | July 31, 2008 at 11:10 AM
I'm not sure what Kenny's up to. I don't mind losing Richar, as I think he is overrated. Losing Masset is a little more troubling. I guess we either make another move in the next 3 hours or Paulie is gonna sit the bench. I'm glad we didn't trade Paulie, though I understand if we need to put him on the bench and write off this season, allowing him to really recover from his injuries. I don't understand bringing Griffey in, but I trust Kenny sees something we don't. After all, while most of us were caught up in the dead-end pursuits of Hunter and Fukodome, Kenny was quietly picking up Carlos Quentin and Alexei Ramirez. He usually knows what he's doing.
Posted by: JKURD | July 31, 2008 at 11:24 AM
If only it was 1993 with the Sox headed into the playoffs and Frank Thomas and Junior Griffey in their prime in the heart of the Sox order. Sigh.
Posted by: OmegaMan | July 31, 2008 at 11:30 AM
hey tim,
i'm kinda with you on this one. i don't know exactly how he fits in on the south side. seems to be similar to the predicament of the angels regarding their outfield. that seems to be sorted out but this move puts a greater number of positions into question (all 3 OFs, 1st, 3rd, DH). ozzie will figure it out.
regardless, when yahoo! finally reported that junior agreed to the trade, their "Big League Stew" blog was updated with a nice link to your coverage of the trade.
Posted by: jacklaf | July 31, 2008 at 11:35 AM
okay now i like the move but what in the world are the sox going to do with griffey, konerko, and thome. It's obvious you cant have all three in the lineup at once cuz that would more likely put you closer to last place than first place. Do the sox plan on moving konerko or releasing thome one will never know what williams is thinking. Congrats on finally getting out of cincy griffey.
Posted by: mkunz | July 31, 2008 at 11:50 AM
I don't really think Griffey will be much of a downgrade in center. It's not exactly like Swish was tearing it up out there.
I like Danny Richar a lot but there is really no need for him now as it looks like Ramirez and Gordon Beckham will be the middle infield of the future. Nick Masset was solid out of the bullpen, but had been struggling a lot lately, which is steadily climbing ERA indicated. DJ Carrasco has been stellar since coming up, and took the long relief job anyways, making Masset expendable.
Love the deal.
Posted by: Kevbo | July 31, 2008 at 12:54 PM
I find it absolutely incredible that every Reds fan is on this thread bashing Ken Griffey Jr. The post that read, "Jr. your dad was great, but you just didn't pan out" is completely idiotic. What people are failing to mention is that Griffey is also a solid personality. You never see him in any negative press, his name has never been brought up in any steriod rumors, and when he is healthy (and this is the same for any baseball player), he is productive. Just because the Reds failed to put any support around him isn't his fault. Griffey is most likely jumping for joy today because he actually gets to play for a winning team. Which brings me to my next point...why in the hell are Sox fans on here blasting this trade? So what...we gave up a kid in Richar that is expendable and a reliever in Masset that most likely was close to getting sent down to the Minors because he has been unproductive as of late. We are in 1st place when we weren't even supposed to contend this year. Griffey can play center...its not like our current CF (Swisher) was a stellar CF anyway. If it is decided that he can't play CF, then the Sox play Quentin there and play Griffey in LF. It is obvious Konerko is done getting legitimate time and possibly will be traded or put on the DL. I don't see how this trade hurts the Sox. It is yet to be seen if it helps, but it certainly won't hurt. Cincy fans should shut their mouths and turn their attention to the start of the NFL season like they have the past 15 years.

ALL YOU REDS FAN STOP HATING CAUSE WEEEEEEEEEE GOT OUR SELVES A 600 HOME RUN HITTER!
he's on a 12 game hit streak and is batting 324 with 3 homers and 10 rbi's on that trip
i dont care what you red fans say but Griffey's a hall of famer and all we need him for is this last half of the season to make it to the post season
Dave, i like your thinking, Paul Konerko needs to be moved our benched for a bit and then platoon Griffey, Quentin, Dye and Swisher when Konerko gets his head out of his ass and starts playing
Posted by: A1Steak5 | July 31, 2008 at 01:21 PM
could this mean that Paul is on his way out?
-prob not but something to think about
Posted by: cubs land | July 31, 2008 at 01:23 PM
I just don't see how Griffey fits in. He can't play center anymore, I don't care what anyone says, Swish is probably still better than Jr is now. You can't put him in the corners, as you have 2 MVP candidates there. I don't see Quentin playing CF. You don't DH him because Thome is hitting better than he is. Then there's Konerko. Who knows?
Posted by: rype123 | July 31, 2008 at 01:25 PM
Honestly I think we're going to be seeing more of Thome at first, Swisher in center and Griffey at DH than Swisher at first, Griffey in center and Thome at DH.
Posted by: scribbletone | July 31, 2008 at 01:30 PM
I'll make this statement right now. The White Sox will have a lower winning percentage than they have right now with Ken Griffey Jr on their team. Go on to Chicago Ken and teach Alexi Ramirez and Carlos Quentin how a 20 year vet does things. Like you know, never running out ground balls, or never laying down a bunt when the 3B is playing you behind 2B, or never doing what is best for the team like moving a runner from 2nd to 3rd with no one out. He is a cancer and thank goodness he is out of Cincinnati. I was a HUGE Griffey Jr fan for every year he was in Cincinnati except these last 2 when he has become lazy and self centered. Maybe a playoff race or change of scenery will change him because I really think his declining numbers are because of lack of effort more than anything. Anyone who can hit a HR at will on every father's or mother's day seems a little fishy to me...
Posted by: Mainevent41 | July 31, 2008 at 01:43 PM
Griffey has always been a ray of light in this dark steroid filled era. Griffey may not have lived up to the HR crown hype, but he has always been a good player. Griffey is a great player, and a great role model. I think that Griffey COULD potentially become MUCH more productive with the rest given to him through DHing. I think this is a great move either way because Griffey can still field when he has too. This move POTENTIALLY adds a good offense boost.
I like this move a lot. Griffey is probably stoked that he can compete for a title now.
Posted by: manny24 | July 31, 2008 at 01:44 PM
Deal only makes sense if it leads to unloading some other guys in another deal. Good luck to Ozzie trying to find room for Jr, Thome, Konerko, and Swisher in the lineup
Posted by: whitesox70 | July 31, 2008 at 02:46 PM
Does anyone know if the Sox would recieve any draft picks if they decide to buyout Griffey's opt.?
Posted by: ChiBears08' | July 31, 2008 at 02:57 PM
He might be a Type B Free Agent...I like the idea of getting Griffey out of Cincy. He doesn't try, which rubs off on other players (hello, Adam Dunn), and is a gigantic hole in the three spot (why?). The Reds weren't going to compete this year anyways, so why not see what we can get for him?
Posted by: mdpappas | July 31, 2008 at 03:06 PM
i wonder if the CWS might try to eventually trade him to Seattle in the off-season so he can retire.

"To me, it looks like Konerko is going to get the short end of the stick."
Hmm, I wonder if he still has his tools of ignorance?
"Griffey may not have lived up to the HR crown hype, but he has always been a good player."
What? He is one of only 5 players who have hit over 600 HR. I think he lived up to the hype.
"You can't put him in the corners, as you have 2 MVP candidates there. I don't see Quentin playing CF."
Dye has played some CF in his career and still has the range. Why not move him over?

Didn't see this one coming, this guy is just old. These guys wrote out some in depth stuff on it:

AA, in what world does Dye have range still? I guarantee Griffey probably has a lot more range than Dye. Have you watched a Sox game in the past 2 years? He has looked extremely slow for the better part of this season. He's picked it up a little lately, but if Dye is in CF, the Sox are in HUGE trouble.

"You never see him in any negative press"???
Do you not recall what has happened with Griffey and Brantley?

"Dye has played some CF in his career and still has the range. Why not move him over?"
I sincerely hope you're joking. Dye has damn near ZERO range at this point in his career. I'm still a fan of the guy, but his fielding is comical.

"I really do understand that the overwhelming majority of fans wanted so badly for me to succeed," Griffey said. "Additionally, I would like to sincerely apologize to those fans offended by my wrongful actions last Saturday night. It was an overreaction on my part to what I felt was a series of public, inaccurate and unfair remarks about me."
Just to continue on with the "negative press"...
