« Offseason Outlook: Los Angeles Dodgers | Main | Ricciardi On Burnett, Manny, Shortstop »
According to Dan Bickley of the Arizona Republic, Luis Gonzalez wants to finish his career with the Diamondbacks. Money is not an issue for him. If the D'Backs can add Gonzo for $1MM or so, why not?
Gonzalez, 41, hit .261/.336/.413 in 387 plate appearances this year. He allowed 11 more bases than the average left fielder in his 503.2 innings there, according to the plus/minus system.

In this case, it would be incredibly smart for the Marlins to offer him arbitration. This way they get a sandwich pick and Gonzo gets what he wants.

If it's only going to cost the Dbacks $1MM, go for it. For practically nothing, the Dbacks get a solid back-up outfielder and a ton of veteran leadership. Think of him like an outfield Tony Clark.

Two things. One, Gonzalez has a bit of a history of whining, like he did with the Dodgers when Grady Little finally wised up and stopped platooning him with Ethier and Kemp. Not exactly the same presence there as Clark. Second, however, I bet Gonzo could play 1B if needed and he has more to offer offensively because he can still run.

We're only 4 to 7 games away from no more baseball until spring and the rumors are already getting lame and desperate rumblings of writers and fans of teams who didn't get in the playoffs this season...but then again...its not called MLBtradefacts.com
Im worried how hard up we are gonna be for bits of early November rumblings when we've already started worrying where people like Luis Gonzalez and David Weathers may ened up sipping Ensure next season.
At this rate we'll be speculating rumors of a return by Jay Bell, Matt Williams, and Craig Paquette.
Someone wake me up when its time for the Winter Meetings and Armando Reynoso and Mike Blowers are being followed by reporters when they drop their children off at school.
uggg.... this is gonna be a long winter
