Holy cow...Sabathia & Santana as #1 and #2 starters? Good lord...

Jon Starkey is crazy? Non tender Adam LaRoche? No.
Trade him to a team that wants him. There are plenty abound. The losers in any Teixeira bidding war are a good place to start.

*Joe Starkey. Oops.

A Santana/Sabathia would be history's most expensive 1-2 punch and would be intriguing... but frankly if you can't hold a lead in the 9th, there's no point in have a pair of aces. It'd be wiser for the Mets to acquire a bullpen ace instead.
As for Timlin, I'm a big fan of the guy but he really needs to hang it up, if he wants to stay in baseball, he'll either have to accept a minor league deal to pitch or latch on somewhere as a coach. But really, the guy has nothing left to prove. Considered a longtime dependable go to man, 4 rings, and a great veteran presence. But when it's your time...

Didn't Sabean already say Cain was absolutely off limits?

And what kind of contract do you guys think Lowe will get? Length/dollars?

Anyone that thinks Oswalt is on the block obviously hasn't paid attention the last couple of years.

It's amazing how many people will comment on the bullet point without reading the article. Joe Starkey says to trade LaRoche, but if you can't they should non-tender him. The article is actually quite funny, and probably echoes alot of Pirate fan's frustrations.
I'd also like to comment on the idea that Roy Oswalt is available. 1st, the Astros are not a small market team, and has never made an attempt to significantly slash payroll just for the sake of slashing payroll. 2nd, Roy Oswalt has a NTC. 3rd, The Astros finished with the 5th best record in the NL, hardly a sign of a need to blow up the team and start over. 4th, Oswalt is one of Drayton McLane's favorites and is. not. on. the. market.
If anything the Astros will be looking to add, not subtract.

I think it's highly, highly likely that the Pirates could find a spot for LaRoche. He's still a solid 25-HR, .800 OPS hitter and some team would give him a shot, he's not that expensive. The Yankees, Giants, Mariners, Orioles, Blue Jays and Royals could all show interest in LaRoche as a cheaper alternative to Texeira and even Giambi, as well as he big names on he trade market.

There are A TON of speculation that Jake Peavy could be an Astro by the end of the offseason.
The trade would include:Jake Peavy, a relief pitcher
FOR:Hunter Pence, JR towles, Chris Johnson, Mark Saccamonno, and Brad James.

Hey Tim you should do a Adam LaRoche suitors article.

Oswalt will never be traded to the Braves come on. A team that wins 86 games will not dump its best player.
Also Averybear If I were the Astros I would do that trade for Peavy in a second. I have never been a Pence or Towles fan.

i think the fact that the mets have santna might help sabithia pick the mets over the yankees
Posted by: addymaster04 | October 04, 2008 at 02:25 PM
speaking of the mets 9th inning troubles, do you think the mets would consider trading a power bat for b.j Ryan and prospects?

"A team that wins 86 games will not dump its best player."
No one said anything about Lance Berkman
"i think the fact that the mets have santna might help sabithia pick the mets over the yankees"
