Jacque Jones Hopes To Play In 2009

According to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, outfielder Jacque Jones hopes to play in 2009.  He just finished up a winter ball stint, and his agent has received some nibbles.  Jones will be getting laser eye surgery this winter.

Jones, 34 in April, hit .147/.239/.207 in 134 plate appearances for the Tigers and Marlins this year.  It was a sudden plunge for Jones, who showed the ability to play a capable center field for the Cubs in 2007.

I had such high hopes for Jones when he came up with the Twins. He only really had 1 or 2 really good years. I thought he would amount to a lot more than what he did.

Yeah, never liked the guy but I have to admit he played a damn fine center field for the Cubs in the second half of the 2006 season I believe. Or maybe it was 2007.

this has cincinati reds written all over it.

an older player who "used" to be something but who has had a couple of crappy years. an inexpensive player who the team could "possibly" catch lightening in a bottle with.

plus, never mind the reds already have ryan freel, norris hopper, chris dickerson and wilkin castillo who are on the roster, signed to contracts and who all can play center field.

nope, just add one more to the list and watch as dusty baker lolligags in spring training and then, as the season starts, throws the worst one of the bunch in cf and bats them in the lead off position.

Jones still has some value. He's got the potential to be a 20 HR hitter with a .330-.350 OBP and good defense in center.

If he's willing to take a one year deal at $1-2M with some incentives, he could be a good option for a team like the Reds or Rockies, who just need a guy to take up center for a year while their big name prospects (Stubbs in Cincy, Fowler in Colorado) develop a little longer.

"Jones will be getting laser eye surgery this winter."

Ahh, it was the eyes that caused his 12 foot throws in the ground bouncing multiple times to the infield.

I agree, this does have a reunion with Dusty written all over it.

Ya know, the Cubs need a left handed bat.

Its too bad his name isnt Jacque Ramirez, the Met-inos would have showed some interest.
