« Brewers Sign Trot Nixon, Chris Duffy | Main | Odds and Ends: Abreu, Millwood, Wigginton »
According to Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post, the Rockies, Rangers, Mets, and Orioles have been the most aggressive suitors for free agent starter Tim Redding. Redding, 31 in February, posted a 4.95 ERA in 33 starts for the Nationals this year while earning $1MM. They decided to non-tender him.
Other notes from Renck...the Rox have had productive talks with Glendon Rusch, and Ray King has drawn interest from the Phillies, Marlins, and Pirates.

Noooooooo
The mets should get randy wolf or pedro martinez as their number 5 starter.
Of course we WILL get lowe.

He seems like a guy who only belongs in Petco...

why should the mets get either of those guys? i'll take the cheap guy who puts up comprable stats

So the Rangers are interested in Daniel Cabrera, Jason Jennings, Turnblow, and Redding. Is it any wonder they repeatedly have the worst pitching in baseball.

Redding is the cheap guy who puts up comparible stats....to Jon Garland, that is. I'm fine with him for the #5 starter to compete with Niese.
Of course, they still need to get Lowe or Perez though.

I'd love to see this rotation, 1-7, for the 2009 Mets:
Santana
Lowe
Pelfrey
Maine
Redding
Niese
Colon

Tim Redding, who cares?
Go Mets!
Mets should get Marquis from Cubs for #5...Reliable innings eater.
Posted by: Art | December 18, 2008 at 06:15 PM
I agree, any of these teams should go after Marquis instead. He's just flat out better and they can get the Cubs to eat about half his salary.
Posted by: Teetz1 | December 18, 2008 at 06:40 PM
No, it probably won't. But this might:
K-Rod
Putz
'Nuff said. I'm still picking the Phillies, because they're the World Champs and they deserve it, but I think the Mets should have a good shot to unseat the Sillies this year. And we'll definitely win the head-to-head, like we did last year. People don't realize this, but the Phillies were terrible against the Mets in 2008. We're in their heads. They're obsessed with us. Unfortunately, that's good for them.

How about :
Santana
Lowe
Pelfrey
Maine
Garland
I wouldn't mind this!!!! colon SUCKS, niese isn't ready yet!!

All of you phillie fans can just shut your mouths your absolutely annoying. If and when we get lowe we will be set. The bullpen blew 30 saves and thats the only way you had a chance to even be in contention. We addressed those needs in signing Krod and getting Putz. Gives us 10 of those wins without the bullpen blowing up and we would have had a 9 game lead and been in the playoffs.
So all you people thinking that signing the Ancient Jamie Moyer or the even more ancient Ibanez is going to secure you a playoff spot again your out of your minds. We handed you personally your last 2 playoff berths and dont expect it to happen again.. Your all egotistical and I will guarantee it, you will not make playoffs this year because the Mets wont give it to you the way they did the past 2 years.

Indiana - LOL.

Didn't the Mets entire organization say the same thing with Wagner/Santana?
Please... You lost Perez and now you have no L pitching against Howard, Utley, and now Ibanez who hits over .300 avg and risp... something burrell never did. Not to mention he can run... The Mets had the 3rd highest payroll last year and they still dont make it to October. You can buy KRod, Putz, and even Lowe... The Phils have the best closer and pen in the NL East. Currently they have the best SP as the Mets have 2 solid starters.. Santana and Pelfrey... The Phils got more L bats and the Mets have done NOTHING to answer.. Oh, and we ALL know who has the better bats...

I just want to get this straight... Ibanez is 10 years younger than Moyer but is "even more ancient." Ok... have fun with that.
Posted by: Chewy59 | December 19, 2008 at 02:56 PM
Not that I disagree that K-Rod and Putz are upgrades... they should be... but be careful before you consider them saviors. The blew a combined 15 saves last year.
Posted by: Chewy59 | December 19, 2008 at 02:58 PM
Chewy59
First off Putz was hurt and second even if we had 15 blown saves last year the phillies then would have not won the NL east
