« Mets Acquire Putz In Three-Team Deal | Main | Cubs Focused On Bradley, Ibanez »
Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes about Jack Wilson:
Only the Minnesota Twins are known to be interested, but the Los Angeles Dodgers could come back if their bid to re-sign free agent Rafael Furcal falls short.
Ken Rosenthal chimes in that the Astros could become an option if they first overcome the "extremely slim" odds against trading Miguel Tejada. Kovacevic adds that in the Pirates' final Wilson proposal to the Tigers a few days ago they sought shortstop prospect Danny Worth and one of the team's top pitching prospects.

i have a feeling that jack wilson is going to be traded to the twins tomorrow

I'd still like to see a deal with the Dodgers take place. I have a feeling Neil may be able to fleece him because of the Dodgers love for veteran players.
I mean they traded Carlos Santana and Jon Meloan for a half season of Casey Blake.

Capps/Grabow and Wilson for Blackburn and someone else, I'd be a happy Pirates fan.

ugh this is disgusting. the twins will not be giving up any of their 5 starters. AAA options like humber mulvey or maybe bonser. blackburn? keep dreamin pirates

I hope Colletti is slowly learning that any talks about Wilson would be counter productive to producing a winning team. I'm banking on McCourt being too poor to afford Wilson's salary, and that eventually Furcal will take the Dodgers offer. If Colletti trades for Wilson, Colletti will no longer be the GM of the Dodgers after Wilson bats .230 next season.

Wilson will not hit .230 more like .260-.270. Also if they are too poor to afford Wilson how are they going to afford Furcal. My guess if Furcal signs elsewhere we get Hu and Young.

Wilson will not be our opening day SS and I am hoping Sanchez won't be our opening day 2B either.

It makes absolutely NO sense for the Dodgers to trade Hu and Young for Wilson. Wilson had a .312 OBP for his career.
And this really has nothing to do with his performance when it comes to McCourt. Wilson makes $7.25M next year. Hu and Young COMBINE to make $800K. And we've already got a crap-tastic SS in Berroa. His OBP was .304 and won't cost cheap players. And will be cheaper.
As for Furcal, hopefully Colletti will spend on players who are actually good and not players who are below average.

Although, I'm glad to see that it's a reporter from Pittsburgh that speculates the Dodgers could still want Wilson. Obviously the best return the Bucs could get for Wilson seems to be from the Dodgers. If the report were coming from sources close to the Dodgers I'd be more worried.

Jack Wilson is from California and has said that he will restructure his deal to play for the Dodgers. You guys in L.A. dont realize how good Jack Wilson is! The myth is he cant hit but he can hit for AVG. and on a good year .300 is a possibility. He is a class act too.
Hu wont be as good as Jack probaly ever and definitly not for years! Keep Jack Wilson and let him play a year healthy.

Hu will be the darkhorse candidate at SS and Dewitt and Loretta will platoon at 2nd, with Loretta doing 30% back up at SS...Furcal had his fate decided when he turned down the A's contract (letting the Dodgers know how much he commanded) and by the Loretta and Blake signing.......

as a lifelong twnis fan, may i say, "NO! DO NOT WANT!"
Posted by: Jon Elliot | December 11, 2008 at 09:25 AM
I am pretty sure you will not see Loretta at SS ever he is old and has no range.
Posted by: BucSox | December 11, 2008 at 09:38 AM
He still has throwing range and some speed in the legs............not as much as Furcal or Hu but bet Hu can't last all year long in SS

Wilson to houston doesnt sound very smart. They would be trading Tejada to clear payroll for a starting pitcher not to take on Wilsons. (Unless the Pirates are willing to pay some of wilsons salary?)

Wilsons salary is half of Tejadas..if they traded tejada the astros would have to eat half Tejada's salary which in turn would mean they get wilson of 13 Mill? WOW good one

What does that even mean? I was just saying houston is trying to dump payroll. You're right that they would have to pay about half of tejadas salary so it wouldnt make much sense to get wilson, and then you're back where you started in terms of payroll.
